Look, as a long time F$U hater I can tell you there is "selective criteria" for what is considered an infraction.  No matter how much smoke there might be, the NCAA just isn't going to notice the fire.  So you can save yourselves a lot of aggrevation and blood pressure meds (so that is where the Jack Daniels empty bottle came from!?) and just roll forward!

BTW where has Hasa been to clean up my posts?  There should have bin many grammitical and spalling erors.
"Your due inn find.  Ewe dont knead mai asistence.  Jus no aisle bee their win eye bee leave ewe want mine."  lol

PS Check "aggravation" in your post.  Feel better now?  :)

Finally broke down and joined this blog. See a few familiar faces.  Hasanova....I wondered what happened to you.
I missed Stone Station last year in Salem but heard about it during the game . This year I WILL get there early enough.  ;D  With game time being 4:00 this year, every one better get their long johns pressed and ready to go. Oh course if it's MU and UWW again, I'm sure those folks will be in shorts and tees.  :o

Hey, allsky7.  I saw you giving GC some props in the Daily Dose after they tripped BC a few weeks back.  Thanks.  I'm just hanging out here, protecting the honor of the alma mater, writing a few limericks and giving some writing lessons if (when, actually) they're  sorely needed.  :)  I'm considering the Stagg Bowl this year.  It would be nice to meet you if you make the trip to Stone Station.  Welcome to the ODAC board!

Based on my limited knowledge of the situation and of NCAA bylaws, I would agree.  But what is your take on Kid's point about the clearinghouse?

Once again, the NCAA Clearinghouse is for scholarship level athletics, DI, DI-AA, DII.  There is no clearinghouse for DIII.  The admissions people take care of that.

I don't know about Kid's clearinghouse, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express over the weekend!!

QuoteThe reason I said in my last post that both schools are poopoo about tailgating is because we've had trouble even being allowed to setup anything near the two stadiums.  We were allowed to about half a mile away at Catholic, but that didn't really have a tailgate feel to it with major roads and tall buildings around in DC.

I know people tailgate in the parking lot right next to the Dufour Center. The Riccas had a huge party going when JD and Keith matched up last year. I do believe they asked for permission and for room to be set aside for them. It wouldn't hurt to call the athletic department and see if they have any reccomendations for you. If you don't get in that parking lot, then there really aren't many options. Most people end up parking along the streets near Dufour, which isn't really prime real estate for tailgating.

What Catholic should do, but doesn't.
Allow people to drive through the Hawaii Ave. gate behind the stands, and set up tailgates on the "rock field" on the side that doesn't have stands. That area isn't really necessary as a practice field now that they have field turf, and it could host a lot of vehicles. People could then walk over to the stands in just a minute.
They could even charge a small fee for vehicles to come in, and raise a little more money for the program.
Take a look in that direction if you make it up to BC's final game of 2006, and you'll agree that it has potential. Doing that would create a fun environment surrounding the game and probably get alumni back and raise school spirit. Of course the administration wouldn't want to do anything enjoyable for alumni and students.
All this Catholic talk gets me wondering...does anybody from Catholic read this board. Besides an occassional comment from Gone, I can't remember the last time somebody from Catholic has posted.

I think what they're saying is they're not going to hold a school responsible for a kid flat-out lying to them. Call me crazy.

but there are ways that schools CAN and SHOULD find out about these things, and from what i know, they're cheap and easy (ie: the national student clearinghouse) - i also wouldn't necessarily say that what the student did was "flat-out lying"...giving him the benefit of the doubt, it could have been an error of ommission, not an act of deceit - either way, had due diligence been taken up front by guilford, this situation wouldn't have happened - i don't see the fundamental difference between this situation and the one that su had last year, quite honestly...both were clearly rules violations, and both violations are punishable by forfeiting games - there aren't varying levels of eligibility...either a player is eligible, or he isn't...there shouldn't be varying levels of punishment

not punishing guilford is a slippery slope, in my opinion...if i'm a less than scrupulous coach who is working with a transfer student who doesn't want to disclose that information for whatever reason, and he's a kid i REALLY want, i tell him "don't list that school on your application...they don't check that stuff out anyway...we really want you here, son - oh yeah, and if someone does find out that you went to xyz college last year, we'll just say that you lied on your application, that way we won't get in trouble with the conference or the ncaa and we can use you to help us win some games for the first couple of months of the season ;)"

of course, i'm being overly dramatic, and i don't FOR A MINUTE think this really happened at guilford...although it wouldn't shock me if it happened SOMEWHERE (this might surprise some of you, but even coaches at the d3 level like to win, some like to win so much that they would cheat)

wlu78 - glad to hear you stayed at a holiday inn express (i prefer hampton inn), but you're talking about a different clearinghouse - the national student clearinghouse can be used by any of the close to 3,000 member institutions to track student enrollment regardless of athletic affiliation, if i'm reading the information correctly

Umm, I provided the link to their web site (http://www.nslc.org/) and the complete list of schools who are members (http://www.nslc.org/colleges/coreserv/docs/CoreParticipants.xls), below.

As far as I know, this isn't the same as the NCAA clearinghouse for DI and DII.  It's something schools can volunteer to join.  Guilford (and Emory & Henry, for that matter) are members.

Thanks Muchacho. I knew about the parkinglot beside Dufour (as I can no longer call it DuPoor due to the field). Two years ago that lot was full with security and I believe it was Parents Weekend since they had a huge tent at the end of the lot. I also am aware of the field you are refering to well. It is where we went over to the far hillside to celebrate our ODAC Championship in 2004.

DIII players do not have to go through the clearing house.

Wow, from the world's largest airplane, to the world's largest outdoor cocktail party, to the ODAC's largest @#s whooping!! :)

I told all of you that the fury of the 1rst half would tell the tale.

Congrats to BC.

Where were you WLU78?  I thought you were coming by Stone Station for a bit of hospitality before the game.  I ended up asking people randomly if they were WLU78. I got some interesting looks.  For one, I am not sure if 78 was your number (an O-Liner perhaps, my favorite kind), or 78 was the year you graduated so it left about 3/4 of the guys eligible to be you.  I was sorry that Stuart Sitterson was not able to play at all.  He is an excellent player.  Ward didn't play after the first quarter and those are franchise players.  However, the D played with a tenacity I haven't seen in 2-3 years.  And the Offense were clicking on all cylinders.  It felt like Coach Colbert were back in the saddle.  Please come to the Stagg Bowl if you live close enough.  Stone Station will be hosting the fan bases of both teams who make it to the finals.  It will be a fun time.

I'm in!  Jacketlawyer, I got a chance to enjoy the Stone Station food on October 14 and let me tell you, it's good!

I've wanted to hang at Stone Station since I started reading about it a while back!! ;D  I'd try to attend the R-M version of it this year in Ashland, if I wasn't off to DC for business.

But I'm old fashioned, and will wait for an invitation. . . even though this posting could easily be construed as shameless groveling for same. . . ;)

Well, Randolph Macon doesn't allow the opposing team to tailgate.  They threaten to put you in jail if you so much as try to eat a sandwich in your car so I know that Stone Station people will be there but I don't think it will set up.  I haven't yet heard about Catholic as yet.  But I am willing and able to make the brownies for that game, Llama and Skoal if we are going to tailgate in DC.  Jacketlawyer, please, pretty please, come to the Stagg Bowl and help us to host the 2 fan bases of the 2 finalists that are playing in the Stagg Bowl, on Dec. 16.  The game begins at 4 pm.  LLamaguy is the one to check with about menu.  All I do is make the brownies for the tailgate, for the media  ;D ;D ;D, and for the 2 teams!!  There is your invitation.  And I sure hope Hasa makes it this time, And GCol and Trenches, too!!!  The ODAC hosts the Stagg Bowl.  There really should be a right healthy representation to greet our visitors.  Wouldn't it be nice if one of the teams were representing our conference?  That would be swell!!  Go ODAC!!

i'm not positive, but is it not their job to get ALL of his transcripts before he can be admitted? the school HAD to have these to get him in. if not, their system is flawed... that's just my opinion...

Thanks to Brad Bankston for providing the official response.

Here's my take...

The debate rages on the message board as if the schools themselves are failing to address it.  The absence of coverage in another venue, or this one, does not mean the issue is not being addressed.  Having been an avid reader of the Centennial Conference annual meeting minutes - conferences change their laws all the time, maybe this will require an amendment.

I am confident that those who are closest to this situation - being the athletic departments up and down the ODAC - are on top of the issue and following it to the utmost.

I stand by Pat Coleman's previous take that this is not a story that merited coverage, despite the lobbying.  Bankston's response proves that, and WLU78's post furthers it ("Making something out of nothing is the very foundation of journalism.")

Turn on CNN or Fox or MSNBC where 24-hour news rules the roost and you will ALWAYS see some sort of "Breaking News" or "News Alert" or "Developing Story" which often involves a live shot and lots of speculation.  More often than not, said "story" turns out to be nothing more than a miniscule blip on the radar screen that wouldn't merit coverage were it not for the need to keep people watching.

Behind the scenes in places you don't talk about at parties (bastardized line from "A Few Good Men") this issue is being addressed properly.  The existance of the message board and our site got the official answer.  Cries of foul, slippery slopes, corruption, etc. are unnecessary.

He was there last year because I sat next to him for a while!!  Now, Hasa, you have got to reve up the red nova and novette and join us for a grand time.  I'm tired of begging you to come when you know it's going to be a great time.  Especially if we all get together the night before.

No promises about Friday night, olinemom, but I'll do my best to at least make the game.  That's a busy time of year, as you well know.  Hopefully, I won't have a social commitment I have to keep (reading between the lines, that's a. party at boss' house or b. party at anyone's house that Novette wants to attend.)  lol  The red '68 Nova is not the best car in the world for long distance December travel, so it may be the '04 Toyota 4Runner on this trip.  :)

Where were you WLU78?

Mom I was attired in Orange and Blue in Cowford, FLA enjoying the game formerly known as "The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party."

I graduated in 1978, and coincidentally my son wore #78 through his high school career, and no amount of pleading or bribing could tempt him to an ODAC football school so I could return to the most beautiful valley!!  So I went to watch my adopted team the Gators this past Sat.
