QuotePretty good numbers, but he didn't even make D3football.com's All-South team (which includes three teams - six total DTs).  Hmm.

Sounds like you are trying to say that Don Hansen should be picking his All Americans from a pool of d3football.com Regional teams. I don't know how Hansen picks his team, but Alwin's numbers that you posted seem worthy for a DT.

I'm saying the D3football.com guys know a heck of a lot more about Division III football than Don Hansen.

Now, perhaps R-MC didn't nominate Alwin for D3football.com All-Region.

And yes, I'll agree his numbers are nice, but 5.0 of his 9.5 sacks came in the second half of games.  Only 0.5 came in the 1st quarter.  Only two came when R-MC was leading, which suggests that the opponents had in second (or third) units at those times.

Maybe some of you already knew this, but H-SC's quarterback Bobby Owens is now enrolled at Appalachian State.  I checked their site, and "Robert Alan" Owens is in fact a student there now (not playing football, as far as I know).

I guess it's Craig Warnement's team now.  Owens being gone sure does take away the "smoke and mirrors" aspect, although some might argue that hurt them.

More twists and turns in the Guilford case.  In the attached story, the accused are leveling counter charges against the Palestinian students.  The player with injuries in the photos is Mike Six and the parent in the video is Tim Bates, father of player Michael Bates.  Some of you may remember the weekly photos taken by Mr. Bates that I regularly posted on this site.

Also, I saw a story on the internet today that Micah Rushing has now been charged:

There appears to be a lot more to this story than early news reports would lead you to believe.  It will be very interested to see how this unfolds.

Sad ... very sad.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Hasa.  I know it's hard, but justice will prevail.

I've read stories about this person and his dad though not video.

I don't suppose it's possible that someone could have delivered bruises in self-defense.

Yes, I think that's certainly possible.  I haven't been inside Bryan Dorm lately, but I lived there my senior year.  The quad is surrounded on all four sides by three story structures with a 360 degree balcony on each floor that leads to suites.  If there was a commotion in the quad, hundreds of people could come out of their rooms and look directly at or down on the activity.  I can't confirm this, but I heard there was some sort of construction going on in the quad and a supply of bricks and other building supplies was left over the weekend.  I think the loose bricks have been mentioned in some news reports and the belt story has surfaced a couple of times.   I spoke to an athletics department insider at the basketball game on Sunday afternoon and he's keeping his spirits up, staying focused on recruiting and mentoring current athletes.  He says there are two sides to this story and it's not as dire and one-sided as the media is implying.  I hope he's right.

I wonder if this will cause the Guilford HC to be the next Todd Strop in D3?

Same or different situation?

Well B,
The Guilford coach does have a previous slip-up under his watch with the ineligible player. As for how that plays against the success of the team the past two years, who knows ... but the general consensus on Strop was that it sucks for the coach to be scapegoated for his players' off-the-field matters, so I guess we should extend the same courtesy to Kevin Keisel.

As a blogger said the other day, "This is not good" and as someone else said in response, "This is not good for anyone."  Guilford has stood for what's right for 170 years and I'll be damned if 370 seconds of ignorance is going to bring that down.  Peace

I see you took some math at Guilford.

Yeah, K-Mack, I was a double major actually, in Math and Econ.  Thankfully, some folks gave me some writing lessons as well.  lol  Hopefully, this sad event can be resolved quickly and fairly.

Hard to make the two QB thing work. I know there are other factors but the male ego usually doesn't allow it I guess. It's a shame because Owens is a great athlete. My gut told me he might end up at another position. Guess not.
Anyone know what happened to Chris Bell? Just saw in the Mayberry Gazette (aka The Farmville Herald ;D) that H-S has a new D coordinator.

Speaking of H-SC...noticed the Tigers picked up Huntington and King's on their 2007 schedule. At least as far back as my memory goes, they have never played either of these two before.

I heard he was "let go" by H-SC.  It's ashame ... he had that defense moving in the right direction (with a lot of young talent).  Someone had the be the scapegoat for nearly 30+ points given up a game.

I hadn't heard that. I'm going to have to tighten up with my H-S sources. Spending too much time at my real job I guess.  ;D
Chris left H-S a few years ago and then came back with much fanfare so I was surprised he was gone. I agree that it seemed the D was on the right track. Too bad they couldn't have gotten Owens on the D side of the ball. I haven't checked the stats but if my memory is correct, the H-S D has always given up quite a few points in the Favret era. The O didn't score as much last year as in previous years. Maybe they should have fired the O Coord.?  :-\  ;D
I like Coach Favret personally and you certainly can't argue with his success (other than the Bridgewater thorn but BC has been a thorn to many) but I'm an old schooler that still believes that most of the time good D beats good O. It is also true that when you have a 4 and 6 year...all the naysayers (aka: alumni with checkbooks in hand and others) come out of the woodwork.
The Tigers are going to be OK. The ship has taken on a little water but it is far from sinking.  8)

Good morning, allsky!  Huntingdon's only had a program since 2003 and, as you'd expect, the Hawks took their lumps the first two years.  They won 13 games in 2005 and 2006, however, so they must be doing something right.  For recruiting, I guess it doesn't hurt to be one of the few DIII programs in their geographic region.   On another note, something in my memory bank told me they spell Huntingdon with a "d" and I looked it up to make sure.  I'm sure they see both spellings all the time.  :)  Looks like King's went 6-5, 6-3 MAC, but got whipped pretty soundly by Kean, 37-0, in their finale on Nov. 18.  I'm still looking for you in Greensboro for a Guilford/HSC game!  If you want a friendly wager, the over and under will have to be at least 90!  lol
