Interesting in today's Snooze & Regress.  (News & Advance) Lynchburg College looking into the possibility of bringing back Football.

Does anyone know the true story behind why LC dropped football in the first place?  I know    there were plenty of stories floating around at track meets that I attended at LC.. but none of them seemed legit.  I hope LC gets a team.. if their track program is any indication of the athletes they can draw they'd be pretty decent within the ODAC.

I'm guessing that whoever the president was at the time dropped it to pursue more academic goals, much in the same way that Roanoke College dropped their program.

Either that or too expensive!! ;D

Methinks we'll have a Scottie sighting here pretty soon. ;D

Hey Skoal...long time no see. Snooze & Regress.... now that's funny!! I got so tired of snoozing and regressing that I cancelled my prescription about a year ago.  ;D ;D

W&L has more of a national reputation than most people realize.  I'd say that plenty of people outside of the ODAC region recognized it.

W&L's alumni network is one of the best.  Period.  VMI's may be better, but only to a degree.

Gotta be something about that Rockbridge County water. ;)

No doubt W&L is probably the most nationally recognized ODAC school. Their law school certainly helps that cause.  8)

Snooze & Regress. :D  Aptly named.

I guess I'm for it, but it would just further water down a recruiting base that's already watered down.

Watered down recruiting shouldn't be an excuse.... it may just force some of the ODAC coaches to look outside of the VA/MD/DC area a little bit more.

Perhaps...but I think a tough sell. PA is full of D3 schools. Not so many in NC but still a few. IMO, hard to get kids to to go several states away to go to school and play ball if there are options closer.

This question is for W&L fans.......does Washington & Lee have their 2007 football schedule out yet. My cousin's husband is a W&L grad and we were talking this weekend about going to one or two of their games. However my son plays at Averett and it would have to be during their off week.

Sorry to barge in on your site guys, at least you have more interesting discussions going on during this dry spell. There is nothing being talked about on the USA South site.

Thanks for articulating what I couldn't, allsky.  This is what I had in mind when I referred to the "watered-down" recruiting base.

I'm in straight commission sales Jacket. If I don't articulate, I drink the Beast or worse. If I do articulate, I drink Stone IPA or Brooklyn Brown.  ;D That's usually enough motivation right there.  :D Course, my gf and a few around here probably wish I articulated a little less.  ;D 8)
Speaking of LC and football. I didn't even realize they ever had football. Was it in 1914 or something?

Both Lynchburg and da 'Noke had football at one time, but it's been decades since either fielded a team.  Check any H-S football program which breaks down the all-time series against H-S (a school, I might add, which does a very good job with their athletic media guides).

Happen to have a 2005 H-SC / BC program on my coffee table. I know it has the all time records in there but don't think it says anything about the years played. I have been around/followed H-S football since the late 60's and they have not played LC during that time. Just got off the phone with my dad. He says they haven't had a team at least since he went to H-S in 1955.  8)

That information is out there somewhere; if I had to guess, I'd say both RC and LC suspended (like many colleges did) their programs in the '40s due to WWII, and just never revived their programs.  I'm sure it can be found.  Kudos to your Pops for being a go-to resource.  We should get together and hoist some Beast sometime soon (or Brooklyn). 8)

My dad is an unbelievable wealth of knowledge when it comes to things ODAC. You think I articulate....He makes me look like a rookie.  ;D
The hoisting sounds like a great idea. Since business has been good here lately, we'll leave the Beast in the cage and break out the good stuff.  ;D Was thinking about going to the LC/H-S lax game on April 21st. Maybe we can get a little tailgate going for that. Or better yet, perhaps we can get the Stone Station crew to head down. I'm sure they would have almost as much fun cheering against H-S as they would cheering for BC.  ;D

Hey, I'm gamer, as most of the posters here are that I've met.  I've got the game on my calendar.  I'm willing to stand by my projection and state that this game will be the unofficial ODAC title game, but we can wait to see how the season unfolds. ;)
