llama,

Funny you like the style of the big ten play in the final four.  I am a huge big ten guy primarily Ohio State but I believed the Big Ten's Half court style of play would not thrive well in the Tourney, and i actually had Purdue, MSU, and Indiana all losing in the first round and predicted the demise of Wisconsin in the second round.  I agree they play hard but i thought that the big ten teams minus Ohio State would not have the players to be able to run and get up and down like the bulk of the nation.

It should be an interesting next couple of weeks!!!!!

Cartel,
I totally agree to a point. I too had Wisconsin losing in the second round. They over achieved in my opinion during the season. My main point is that if the Big Ten , Big East make the Final Four, look out. The very reason you mentioned is why they don't always make it. Ohio State survived their scare and if they get into the Final Four it will be between them and Gtown, unless Florida lights it up from three point land then runs them out of the building. Good to hear from you, hope all is well in Thiel Land and C land.  ;)

Interesting thought on the Big East.... One article I read stated that the committee was afraid that a ACC wouldn't be in the fianl four again and thats why SU and WV were left out!!!! And that was a national reporter... The Orange were hosed any way you look at it....

More importantly!!! What's going to happen to the ACFC??? Looks like maybe this Capitol conference idea might have to happen. With Morrisville and BProt droppong of future Schedules that is going to hurt the ACFC\.a
Football !!! The ultimate team sport. Anyone who plays DIII football is a winner...

Good question about the ACFC. Enlighten me on the conference affiliation. Am I right in saying it is a moot point in football as whether in AFCA or considered an Independent, they both are in Pool B and don't receive an automatic anyway. Now as for other sports it may make a difference. Is that the case?

Wesley is in the PAC this year for all other sports. Next year they go to the Capitol conference. Salisbury is already in the Capitol. I don't know where Frostburg St. is conference comiitted in other sports. Galluadette is in the Capitol conf. and as far as I know they are the only three currently with football. Though Hood is supposed to be starting a football program and one other school that escapes me right now. Pat and K-Mack have broached this subject before

PA_Wesleyan,

this would be a good time for a school in the Capital to add football.  The conference could be 4 years away from a Pool A bid.

Let's look at this timeline.

Current status of football in the Mid-Atlantic Region:

Independents (ACFC):

Wesley (Capital AC)
Gallaudet (Capital AC)
Salisbury (Capital AC)

Affiliates from the ACFC:
Frostburg St (AMCC)

Potential Affiliates:
SUNY-Maritime (Skyline)

Fall 2007 -- At least one Capital AC school announces study group to investigate football with a report date of Spring 2008.

Fall 2007 -- Another mid-Atlantic school (even a  non-Capital AC) announces exploring football.

Spring 2008 -- Capital AC school announces football in Fall 2009 and hires a football coach.

Spring 2008 -- Non-Capital AC school announces football in Fall 2009 and later accepts affiliation with the Capital AC in football.

Spring 2008 -- Capital AC announces sponsoring football in Fall 2009 by 4 core members and has accepted affiliate memberships from Frostburg State, SUNY-Maritime and another non-Capital AC football-playing school.

Fall 2009 -- Capital AC has 4 members and 3 affiliate schools field first football teams in the new Capital AC.

Fall 2011 -- Capital AC has AQ.  (I think that NNA could be invited to participate.)

It's actually Villa Julie that is studying football.

There would be the fourth Capital AC school.  Add Frostburg St and SUNY-Maritime and you have a formal conference.  Add one more full member as an affiliate and you have the 7th necessarily for the AQ!

As I count the Pool B's in 2011, I get:

The UAA-4 (CMU, CWRU, Chicago, WashU)
East Region Independents (3):  Becker, Husson and Mt Ida
West Region Independents (2):  Macalester and Chapman
The UMAC-5 (Crown, Martin Luther, MN-Morris, Northwestern MN, St Sebastian.)  IMHO, the addition of St Sebastian prompted the UMAC schools to pull out of the deal with the SLIAC.

I project these 14 schools would get one Pool B as the handbook prescribes at this time.

The "Capital AC-6" make 20 Pool B's.  Twenty Pool B's would give us 2 Pool B bids.

In 2007, The Pres AC moves a Pool B bid to Pool A.

In 2008, the NWC moves another Pool B bid to Pool A, but the IBC dissolves.  The NAthCon teams get it back in 2010.

In 2010, the SLIAC gets a Pool A bid.

In 2011, I count 25 Pool A bids, 2 Pool B bids (including the Capital AC)  and 5 Pool C bids.

The decrease in Pool A bids seems primarily to new programs coming on-line as new Pool A conferences are formed, e.g., the Pres AC, the NWC and the SLIAC, which have cobbled schools that are now or recently were in Pool B.  In the UMAC, we have 4 new full programs by 2011.  SUNY-Morrisville is absorbed into the NJAC, probably making the addition of Brockport even easier, and maybe even pre-empting any move by the SUNYAC to form its own conference.

Pat Coleman

I wonder if the NAthCon might not be eligible for an AQ in 2008. Just because the conference isn't sponsoring football right now might not mean that the clock is ticking on its two-year waiting period.

Just like the Dixie IAC in 2001?  I have wondered that myself, but I would rather undercall than overcall!   :-\

Hey Kid,

Now you know who Roy Williams is, he is the coach who's team won his first round NCAA tournament game.  ;D

Go Heels! Atleast until they meet the daunting Gtown Hoyas. :-\

Hey now, I have the Tar Heels winning it all ... but I also have State winning it all (NIT). ;)
Well, kid, you still have a shot at the NCAA pool, but the Mountaineers took care of the Pack last night.  No NIT for you!  :)

I was pulling for the Pack but WOW, what an explosion of treys!! For a while it looked like the last team with the ball would win.

Cleveland Cartel

LLama,

I hope 2007 has continued to bring success for you and your crew as well.  Sycracuse was without a doubt hosed this year.  Personally I do not believe WVU did enough to get in the tourney yes they beat UCLA who I believe was a number 2 at the time, and they have a couple of other decsent wins.  Overall just not as impressed as I was last year. A Highschool friend of mine is Mike Gansey so you can understand that I have a big heart towards the Mountaineers including going to their NCAA tourney games last year when they were held in Cleveland.

I absolutletly love Georgetown and the way they are playing since the last few weeks of the big east tourney and into tomorrow nights game.  THey look strong and will physically beat you as well.  Hibbert vs Oden would be a matchup for the ages!

GO BUCKS TONIGHT!

Snakehandler

I agree, WVU  did not belong in the Big Dance. They had no road wins of any signifacance, until the Big East tourney at the Garden.  Of course the NIT finals are at the Garden as well.
Anyone know how many road teams won games in the NIT?

Cleveland,  I saw a piece on Staff infections on Outside the Lines, that stuff threw Gansey for a loop. I hope he can get caught on to another NBA team. That boy can play.
