165 days to kick off

One of the big issues with the old Hundley Stadium was the distance from the field.  How are they addressing that with the new stadium? Is is closer to the field? What about the track?

Thanks for the photo.  Help me get my bearings - is this shot taken from the endzone next to Fleet?

The 3rd Gallica did save Mark Anthony's bacon did save Paul as well ...twice....;however the 3rd Gallica was recruited mainly from Syria. they worshipped the Sun God Balle. The 3rd Legio was a legion or reigment that fought prior to the professionalism of the legions. Legio means  "new recruit" They were land owning citizens. Not to be confused with the Bull shielded 3rd Gallica which were levied for a 20 year hitch.

yes Hasa you are a true poet, warrior, classically trained, professor. If the government realizes you know too much you are done. ;)

What does this have to do with football.....it's spring football

The endzone next to Gammon Gym. Fleet is the newer gym a couple hundred yards to the R of the pic.

Also, Fleet is behind the left field fence of the baseball field if that helps.  8)

Ah, thanks.  Gammon - right you are.  It's been several years since I was there.  Is there still a Bronze (?) of an eagle (?) at the other end of the field?

Yep, it is still there. Don't think it is a bronze unless that has happened recently. After years of being painted by our friends from R-MC, they put some coating on it I think so it could be cleaned without sand blasting. I remember years ago, the thing having to be sand blasted about every year. Guess they figured eventually, there would be nothing left if they didn't do something.  ;D It used to be that H-S students would soap the fountain in Ashland and R-M would paint the eagle. I think these days, they have focused their energy on more constructive pursuits like partying during Macon week.  :D

abnrgr - Thanks for the lesson on the Roman legions.  I knew Legio meant "new recruit" and hence the word "legionaire", but I didn't know the distinction between the land owners and the professional soldiers.  Sounds somewhat like the militias of the American Revolution.  I also knew the III Legio were sun worshipers.  One story I read was that an opposing army saw the III Legio turn to the horizon to worship before a battle, thought they were saluting reinforcements and threw in the toga, so to speak.  lol  So, unless Arizona State starts facing the sunset every time they have a 4th and 12, I guess it has nothing to do with football!  :)

Thanks also for the compliment.  I figure DIII football is pretty far under the CIA's radar, so hopefully we're all safe here!  lol

Just found this in the Bristol Herald Courier:

"...Four of his teammates, including Caleb Jennings, the southwest Virginia Offensive Player of the Year as named by the Herald Courier, will sign with Emory & Henry on Friday at 2 p.m.

The others headed to E&H are linebacker Brett Clayburne, defensive back D.J. Simmons and wide receiver C.J. Arms."

It seems Emory will have quite a Richlands contingent next year with Keene, Thad Wells, Cain Ringstaff and the above mentioned.

It seems E&H has always had a stronghold on southwest virginia.  Not sure they have to contend with many other schools recruiting down there, so they those kids are there for the pickin'.

Any other recruiting news around the ODAC?  Any notable transfers?

Sign your name on the check that reserves your slot in the incoming freshman class at the respective institution. :)

Welcome Big Scream!  The ODAC board has some great fans.

A classmate of mine has been named chief of staff to the NFL commisioner.

BTW I have asked him to look into the mystery of the W&L hat on "Pardon the Interuption"  he says he will see what he can do.

Just another anecdote to old adage...

D1 players want to play in the NFL

D3 players want to own the NFL, or at least run the thing.   ;)
