Good morning.  I dropped by Guilford's Armfield Stadium yesterday on my way home from work and visited with coopersharpe while watching most of the second half of the women's 12-8 lacrosse victory over Greensboro.

The new visitor stands are all set and look good.  Also, all the light standards and fixtures have been delivered to the stadium and, I'm guessing, will be installed soon.  When you add last year's new press box, new scoreboard, upgraded/expanded home seating, new fences and landscaping, Armfield has never looked better.  I know future plans also include an enhanced entry plaza and an all-weather turf field.  When completed, Guilford's men's and women's soccer teams will also play as many home games as possible in Armfield.  This will make it the home field for five sports when you include football and men's and women's lacrosse.

The game atmosphere is already so much better than it was the past few years.  Personally, I can't wait for the first on-campus night game in school history!  I've heard the Quakers would like to play some early season games at night to lessen some of the impact from the heat experienced in the early afternoon.  The 2007 schedule has not yet been announced, but I know who the opponents are and the dates.  If I had to make an educated guess, Averett and possibly Hampden-Sydney on September 15 and 22, respectively, may be night games.  They should be fun games!

A night game would be great. It is rather hot those first few weeks of the season. Last time we played at Guilford, I mopped sweat all day and got a good sun burn.

WLU78.......have you seen W&L's schedule yet. I just saw on Averetts site where we picked you guys up but the time and place is TBA.

I remember, kickerdad, I was there.  You're right, it was a typical hot and muggy mid-September Southern day!  :)  When I was in grad school at South Carolina, they used to rarely play a day game at home until well into October.  I remember once when the Gamecocks switched an early September game to a noon start to accommodate TV and paramedics were scrambling all over the stands to help spectators.  I'm sure there was also a lot of increased activity for the trainers and medical personnel on the field.   To me, there's also just something about a night game to bring out more "enthusiasm" in the students!

Hey, llama, good to hear from you.  You know, I was thinking along those same lines.  :)  When I was at USC, you could see the frat boys getting things cranked up around 9 A.M.  By the time a 7 P.M. kickoff rolled around, they were full of enthusiam ... and in case they ran out, they brought some extra enthusiasm in a back pocket flask.  To tell you the truth, their sons were probably the Gamecock frat boys in the RV in Borat.  lol

All kidding (and alcohol) aside, I think there is something special about playing under the lights, especially the closest game to Halloween.  I know a lot of people who have chores and other activities during the day, but then they'll come out at night ... and college kids are always looking for a diversion on Saturday nights!

Last I checked, there is absolutely nothing good about a 4-6 record, nothing!!! Hopefully with our new defense the 07 squad will get back to their winning ways. I can't wait for the season to begin !!!!

Good luck to the HSC lax squad this weekend

I've "thought" about this "best" or "worst" 4-6 team issue.  :)  Here's the way I see it:

You can perhaps "prove" you're the "best" 4-6 team if all six of your losses were by narrow margins (one point each would be best!) to teams ranked very near the top in d3.football.com (teams 1-6 would be best!).

Contrarily, you can perhaps "prove" you're the "worst" 4-6 team if all four of your wins were by narrow margins (one point each would be worst) to four winless teams ranked at or near the bottom of some sort of Quality of Wins index (the bottom four teams would be worst!).

No offense intended (but pun absolutely was), but saying you're the best 4-6 football team is a little like saying you're the best navy in South America.  You may be able to trounce Paraquay and tie France by dinner time, but you'd be best to not even schedule the US Navy (read MU Purple Raiders).

Just a little kidding around to get the morning started and keep football on our minds 'til fall!  TGIF!  Thank God it's Football!

tiger....I tend to agree. It was somewhat a trick question. Though I do think a team that was 0 and 10 the year before might beg to differ. A program like H-S...no way. 4 and 6 will never cut it.
Yes....good luck to the Tigers Sat. It will be my first look at the Tiger lax team this year. Let's see if we can break in their new field turf Tiger style and rain on their parade.  ;D  GO TIGERS!!

Hasa, when I asked the question I had you in mind. I had all the confidence in the world that you would come up with a good answer.  8)

What is this world coming to ? We now have a RMC fan openly pulling for the Tigers to win Saturday nite !!!! I think we are all getting too old, I mean soft.

By the way, great comparison on the 4-6 thing... bring on the US Navy

However, at the end of the day you are still 4-6. :-\
