Jacket -

Who knows? I think some fans and community supporters want CNU to move up to higher levels and offer scholarships. I know Trible's stated public comments are that CNU will always be a D3 school.....but then again - he's a politician and LAWYER - so, can you believe what he says?

Sorry  about that - had to sneak in a lawyer jab, ya know!

Thanks!!

Feel free to jab all ya want! ;D

Our church has an annual dinner for CNU student-athletes with a GPA over 3.0.

Is that not considered preferential treatment?  Some atheletes are getting a special treatment over other athletes because they have a 3.0 GPA.  What is the NCAA rules about that? Are they not getting a free meal out of this?

I couldn't go to an athlete and give them $20 to go buy lunch somewhere.  That would be in violation am I correct?

I don't have a real issue with this, but I am wondering what the actual rules are about that.

It is my understanding that Chris Bell is the AD/Head F'ball coach at a new middle school somewhere in Ga. This school will add a grade every year and Chris will become the varsity f'ball coach when that time comes. That is second hand info so I can't verify the accuracy of same.

Other than Kid (because I know his data is right), I would like to see the posters give details, on each quote,  on where they get their data from, especially in the tuition, financial aid and school population numbers.  We used to call them footnotes and references.  Some data does not seem to match up.

I read all the debates about all school's admissions policies and standards.  Bridgewater has always been a great school.  Bridgewater has gotten much better in every phase of its operation over the last 10 years.  Some other schools have done the same.   Quality comes from the vision, support and hard work of the President of the school, it's trustees, staff and financial backers.  This applies to all departments and fortunately athletics.

I thought my sources were clear, if not here they are. Population came from d3football.  Tuition and aid numbers came from princetonreview.com.  It is noted in my post.  The only dircet source not listed was my numbers on total athletes.  I had to go in and count them myself.

bcphotos: I took my tuition numbers from bridgewater.edu and wlu.edu. I figured that was fairly clear -- where else would you take tuition from?

Don Quixote request:

Anyone remember the Randolph-Macon/Hampden-Sydney football game televised on national TV back in the late '70s or early '80s?  Howard Cossell called it.

No, I'm not delusional. 8)

I need to know what year that was.

also.....

WTOP radio was reporting over the last few days that several schools, especially small schools,                (# unknown ) will not be participating the " best schools" ranking systems done by some of the major publications.  This is due to the irrelevancy of the ranking systems they use and concepts that are important to a school may not be important in a ranking system.  Any one hear about this or care ?

It was on ABC and it's in the Hampden-Sydney media guide. But I don't know what year it is offhand and I don't have one with me.

Thanks Pat.  Maybe some of our H-S guys have the answer.  I can always call the athletic office, too, I suppose.

What year was it that the NFL was on strike and one of the big networks carried small college football on Sunday afternoons to fill the time slots?  One game that sticks in my mind may have possibly been West Georgia against Millsaps.  It had to have been over 20 years ago.  Does anyone remember?

Yes, I do.  The fact that those games were ever televised seems almost apocryphal now.  I guess 25 years is a long time, but it doesn't seem that way.

I'm also unsure if the strike was the sole cause of it, but I could be wrong about this.  I seem to recall ABC was contractually bound to show a certain amount of games anyway, and some of them had to be DIII and DII games.
