Looking through the ODAC record book (which still needs lots of updating), here are some offensive names from other schools that keep popping up:

H-SC: JD Ricca (QB - 2002-05)
R-MC: Remon Smith (RB - 1984-87)
E&H: Oliver Jordan (RB - 1996-99)
CUA: Nick Bublavi (WR - 2001-05)
GC: Chris McKinney (WR/PR - 1998-2002)
W&L: Christian Batcheller (QB - 1996-99)

I certainly remember all of these guys and saw them play (though I'm trying to forget Ricca  ;D).

I'm not believing H-S is picked to finish 5th. :-\

Looks like the dreaded Wasps are making a comeback. :P

What does "our roster is the deepest it's ever been" mean, exactly?   I certainly hope we finish higher than the expected 7th place, but I find this statement to be somewhat baffling. ???

About the same thing as "we are returning 21 of 22 starters"......NOT MUCH!! It could mean something but you could return ALL of your starters AND be 3 deep at each position and still not be worth squat if the talent isn't there.  :o

I was surprise the Tigers were picked 5th too. I was thinking 3rd and certainly no lower than 4th. Guess Kid is the man!! He pretty much nailed it didn't he?

Ha, hardly!

They picked GC over E&H.  I thought they'd see Coach Montgomery went from 1-5 in the conference his first year to 4-2 last season.  And all indications are the Wasps are getting better with each recruiting year under his belt.

I suppose they voted on Vogelbach being the reason the Quakers went 4-2, rather than the guys he was throwing to.  But E&H is the only ODAC team that isn't bringing back their starting QB.

Should be a fun year!

I think Coach Arruza heard all the other coaches say something positive about the last couple seasons, while he's looking at 2-4 (2004), 1-5 (2005), and 0-6 (2006).

I thought the most interesting comment was from Coach Montgomery.  Him saying over and over (and over) that his kids are "bigger and stronger."  Unless he means Mount Union big and strong, the fact that they're bigger and stronger means squat.

With all due respect to my friend Hasa and the GCQ, I would have had the Quakers lower too.  Hey Hasa....if I'm wrong, I'll buy you a beer and a chicken dinner in Salem in December.  :D :D

Seeing that Monty has used Mount Union as his measuring stick for over 30 years it could be his measuring stick now. I believe I also heard him say they are faster.
Size does mean squat and the squat means something too. I wouldn't dimiss this guy so soon.

Haha, no no.  I'm not dismissing Coach Montgomery at all.

I just know from experience here at Bridgewater, when we got a big and strong offensive lineman or tight end, he more often than not didn't make it through summer camp, much less play during the fall.

As some have stated over the last couple years on this board, if you think you have Division I-A players, there's a good chance they're not Division I-A players.  For some reason, Mount Union seems to be the only team that year in and year out get players that are as big and as fast as Division I-A players.

Coach Montgomery definitely has that team heading in the right direction, and with bringing in so many newcomers each year (80 or so), he'll have E&H back on the national stage soon.  But I doubt he'll do it with bigger and stronger players.  It'll be with dedicated and smarter players.

Coach Montgomery's  players  Might be bigger because they are dedicated to the program( the weight room and the offseason conditioning program) and smart enough to know that you must get bigger , stronger , and  quicker if you expect to win more games . Coach Monty was in charge of Mount's weight room and the conditioning program .

Coach Arruza saying that the R-MC roster being deepest it's ever been means that for the first time, a majority of the recruits that have been brought in are staying for their upperclassmen years.  My year (from a class of about 40) graduated with 7 seniors.  That's pathetic.  I'm glad we got picked 7th.  Now all the pressure is on the other teams to beat us.

Good to see ya, YJ.  Figured you'd show up.  Hope that Series 7 went well.

allsky, you're on.  I love beer and chicken!  lol  With all due respect to E&H, Guilford led the season-ending game at E&H last Nov. until the last disputed play (clock and an out-of-bounds no-call).  That was the difference between E&H at 4-2 (6-4) and GCQ at 3-3 (6-4).  Guilford could have just as easily been 4-2 (7-3) and E&H 3-3 (5-5).  Personally, I think the Quakers are tabbed about right in the preseason considering they have 4 conference games at home, Vogelbach is a well-seasoned Junior, the Defense is improving and Coach Kiesel's had 2+ years to build his team with his recruits.  Let the games begin!  Peace

Matt,
Don't know you at all. But I am willing to take a stab and guess that over the years Monty has seen, coached, and made decisions on more O-lineman than you have. He has most likely seen more "D1A" prospects than you and I ever will.
This might be D3 but these coaches weren't picked off the street.
Size isn't everything. I can even tell you at Mount after they lost the Stagg Bowl to St. John's they started a new thinking about smaller quicker line men.
It looks like they found the ideal line man is big(not fat), quick, strong and intelligent.
Monty will trim the fat, make them quick and strong and will not recruit dummies.

Yea, Lawyer, passed the Series 7 (thank God).  I worried too much about it when I didn't need to.  I am now a full-fledged Financial Service Representative (I think).  Now have to find some clients.  That's the true tough job.
