Jacketlawyer,

I would imagine that the conference championship and playoff appearance would increase interest in RMC.  I also think that the economy will have an impact on some decisions with regards to private vs. public costs.

Agreed on both counts!  I also think some recruits are waiting to see how they fare on waiting lists at other schools.  I guess there's no way to know for sure until you get a head count on the first day of practice. ;)

may be of some interest to most on the board (or at least RMC fans) to know that there is a very reliable source at the college telling me that Zak Thornton and Brandon Braner have been asked to leave the program at RMC, citing attitude problems.  no definite comfirmation yet, but something to get the boards buzzing as we move in to the summer.

You have to be kidding. I haven't seen anything about this except here....

Sorry 6thman, I'm sure you have your sources, but I'm gonna have to wait for the other shoe to drop before I believe this one! ;D

But if true, this would be very discouraging news indeed.  I'm not sure what would give rise to the attitude.  Doubtlessly, Thornton and Braner were big parts of last two seasons, but it wasn't that long ago R-MC was a habitual dweller in the ODAC basement.  It would seem the players at R-MC should be more grateful than arrogant, but I may be projecting. ???

At any rate, it seems to me you earn the right to cop an attitude when you can win on a regular basis.  Granted, last year was a great year for R-MC, but given there has been no repeat ODAC champion for the last several years, the attitudes (if true) need to go.

Drove through Willamette U. in Salem, OR today.  I can see why kids would want to go there ... very nice that they had such a great 11-1 season in '08.

Thanks for that hasa. I havent been on campus in a while... fun to watch it as it moves along.

Great to see some dorms (looks to be dorms anyway) going up back there as well. Should create a different atmosphere at games.

Any word or a new field house? Rumors have circulated for years but I talked with someone a couple months back that mentioned the idea resurfacing.

Hey all...No Gossip Here...Just an an observation...I think that I saw where Guilford had listed some of their new commits (recruits). I was glad to see this. Hearing about incoming prospects is good for the fans and good for the prospects. Also, it gives us something to talk about, while waiting on camp in August.!! I don't have details, but I understand that the Waspers have a good class coming in. There seems to be alot of emphasis on the O-line. Why don't we hear more about recruiting in the ODAC?
Guilford's had 21 commitments ... I'll add a link later in the day.

Recruits 16-21:

anyone notice the 6'7 225 lb kicker? Janikowski jr?

You're welcome, Trenches.  I look forward to seeing you at a game this fall.

Yeah, I noticed the jumbo-size kicker as well.  It'll be interesting to see how he performs ... well, I hope!

The field turf will definitely be a different look for Armfield Athletic Center.   I hope there are some great crowds this fall ... jury is still out on Guilford football AV (after Vogelbach).

The buildings in the background will be student housing ... privately constructed, I think, but reserved exclusively for Guilford College students.

I'm in Oregon this week ... drove through Willamette U. in Salem a few days ago and Linfield College in McMinnville today ... both very nice looking places.

I would just like to say that I know this to be a fact.  Both of the guys were asked to leave the team and one, if not both, are considering transferring.  As a Macon fan, I was shocked when I first heard the news.  Goes to show what type of character Pedro Aruzza has to ask two players of their caliber to leave for the sake of the team.  Good luck to the Jackets this year.

Too bad for us Macon fans.  Randolph-Macon is mentioned in at least one pre-season publication because of Thornton (though no pre-season ranking).  But if true, and it's something that cannot be worked out in-house, then we will do without. 8)

I do like the fact that R-M has been somewhat consistent over the years when it comes to problem players.  Choices have consequences.  If you don't want to follow the rules, then we'll send you on your way.

Funny how that's, you know, kinda like a JOB? ???

Its a shame that these guys were asked to leave...They were both extremely talented athletes and both had a very successful career at RMC.  Braner being a 4 year starter and being a major contributor to the offense both as a Quarterback and a receiver.  Thornton being the school record holder in two major statistical categories with the chance of holding two ODAC All-Time records.  I am interested in seeing how this story finally plays out.

Anyone got any predictions on the leauge this year?

Bridgewater is picked 17th in the nation in one preseason periodical.  "Sporting News" I believe it was.

No offense RMCfan, but I hope you and the other guys who posted this story are wrong.
