Interesting article, but the last I heard Shenandoah was still on the outside looking in. Has anyone got any updated info? (Relevant passage is about three-quarters of the way through the article.)

The schedule for the Wasps remains the same this fall. There will be two changes in 2010 with the addition of the University of Virginia's College at Wise and Shenandoah University.
E&H travels to Wise in 2010 for the first of a two-year contract. Shenandoah, located in Winchester, Va., is entering the ODAC. Greensboro is one of the teams that will be eliminated from the E&H schedule.

Interesting to note that Guilford's Friday, Oct. 2 game with Southern Virginia is now listed as a GC home game ... if true, this will give the Quakers six home games involving three 7 pm starts.  GC played the Knights in Greensboro last year and was slated to go to Buena Vista in the orginal schedule.  Personally, I hope we can get off these Friday night games ... I understand the need to accommodate SVU's religious calendar, but ... it makes it difficult for fans to travel, the crowds are lower and Friday nights should be reserved for HS games.  Just my opinion.  :)

What is their religious calendar? Seventh Day Adventist? Orthodox Jewish? And why did they not know that college football is played on Saturdays when they started the program?
As noted earlier, SVU is Mormon.  I think this is the only Saturday of the season they can't play ... so it should be their open date in my opinion.

I should have been, but didn't go that route!  :)  Good to hear from you, abnrgr!  Hope all is well with you.

Remember what you said about Ketchum & Kiesel ... "the new coach gets what the old coach needed."  Go take a look at Guilford's new turf/stadium upgrades through links posted in this forum or at www.guilford.edu.  It's nice.

What happened to GC-Q that somebody found the money? Somebody is sleeping with the fishes. Kids deserve it that's for sure

Not sure.  I think when things start to improve, others get on the bandwagon.   Just my opinion, but I think alumni (and others) are more likely to donate when the place looks good ... and overall it looks the best I've seen it.  President Chabotar and his staff seem to be pulling the right strings.   They're completing the brick-paved sidewalks on most of the campus, repaving/landscaping parking lots and remodeling facilities ... the campus looks very nice.  The football facilities were overdue and they do deserve it.  There was another round of recruits announced yesterday ... 53 by my count for the fall.

That is great for Guilford, yet look across town, just read a link on the USA South board that Greensboro College is fighting to fend off creditors and is way behind on many bills. The tale of two schools. What a shame!

Some of Greensboro College's ills have been documented in the local press.  Even though they were founded about a year after Guilford, Greensboro's endowment, facilities, student body size and admission criteria have not been on par with Guilford.  It also appears the administration at Greensboro did not act as proactively as Guilford's when the latest economic downturn was imminent ... all indications show Greensboro is not weathering this well.  I wish them well and hope this can be reversed.

Its a shame that these guys were asked to leave...They were both extremely talented athletes and both had a very successful career at RMC.  Braner being a 4 year starter and being a major contributor to the offense both as a Quarterback and a receiver.  Thornton being the school record holder in two major statistical categories with the chance of holding two ODAC All-Time records.  I am interested in seeing how this story finally plays out.

Anyone got any predictions on the leauge this year?

There went the other shoe. . . . . >:(

Oh well, I've already voiced my opinion on it.  I wish those guys the best of luck and I'm very thankful for their contributions to Randolph-Macon football.  But if you've gotta go, you gotta go.  I'm glad I went to a school where this is the policy. 8)

As for ODAC predictions, who knows how R-M will do?  Thornton and Braner made R-M better, but they weren't the sole reason for R-M's success last year.  I would not expect us to be back in the cellar this year, but successfully defending our title?  Doubt it.

But this whole development begs the question.  What's the ODAC policy for players enrolling at another ODAC school under circumstances like these?  Anyone know?

I don't know the precise policy either (if there even is one) but I would hope that the other conference schools would not accept a player who had left his previous school "under a cloud". Whatever the circumstances surrounding Mr. Thornton's departure from RMC, it seems to me that if a player is asked to leave one school he wouldn't necessarily find any other school with a similar history and mission statement to be a better fit, and that pretty well eliminates the rest of the ODAC in my mind.

'74, this is my hope as well.  As I understand it there is such a policy in the ACC, but I believe it to be more of a gentleman's agreement as such rather than a by-law.  Please note that when I say this, I'm talking about the ODAC schools.  I, in no way, want anything to happen that would impede the young man's future.

I agree with both of you wholeheartedly.  I wish Mr. Thornton the best in his future endeavors.  It's actually quite upsetting.  He was poised to break a couple more school records as well as a couple conference records.  Let me pose a question to you Jacketlawyer.  As he has already broken a couple of school records but his career (at R-MC) has ended the way it has, does he get a vote to maybe go in the R-MC hall of fame?  (Given he finishes out his academic career at macon)
