Guilford has announced six more football recruits for this fall.  I'm pretty sure that makes 59 to date.  Preseason practice should be challenging for both the coaches and the players - make sure you wear a name tag!  :)

Hasa,

HSC brought in over 50 last year.  I think they the published number is 37 for this year.  I think it is an organizational challenge when the numbers exceed much over 100.  If they go that high there needs to be a structured JV program or there is alot of standing around.

Hi HSC85.  This is the largest number (currently 59) of incoming freshmen I can remember at Guilford.  I attribute much of the class size to the new field and stadium improvements, which have absolutely aided recruiting.  You certainly can't tie this increase to great records (4-6 last year and 21-19 the last four), although GCQ is much more competitive than it's been in the past.  I think it'll be an organizational challenge for the coaches.  A JV program is definitely needed to prevent boredom and increase skills (how many of those 59 will actually see meaningful varsity action?).  Fortunately, there's been a JV program in place for several years - usually playing 5 or 6 games per season.

A JV program probably has its most impact in football.  18-year old boys are at a physical disadvantage to 22-year-old men.

Hi I,m new to this board. I was just wondering how many recruits E&H has coming in.

I agree.  It's hard to go from "big fish in a little pond" back to "little fish in a big pond", even in DIII.  Those 3 or 4 years are key, especially when you consider additional growth, weights and training tables.

I'm old enough to remember when freshman basketball players weren't allowed to play with the varsity - even people like Kareem Abdul Jabbar (Lew Alcindor) at UCLA and David Thompson at NCSU had to limit their time to just thrashing other 18 year olds their first year.

Hello, ODAC fans!

I talked to Olinemom last night. She's recovering from hip replacement surgery and is doing well. I think she had it on Monday. The surgery was successful and she already notices that she doesn't have the pain that she did before. She won't be home for some time, and does not have access to a computer right now.

It sounds as if she will be back in brownie form next year.

Best wishes to olinemom!  My Mom's been through this for both hips and a knee, so I understand the recovery process.  Brownies rule!

Hey Olinemom - I couldn't find your e-mail address but I want to wish you a speedy recovery...let's get that rehab done and be ready for the season...see you in November.

Congrats Caleb Jennings. Preseason pick. He deserves it and will show once again why.

But no love for E&H's O'Sullivan on second team? :)

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

HSC85

Are there any preseason conference standing predictions prior to media day on Friday?

I will take a shot at it:

Bridgewater
E&H
HSC
RMC
W&L
Guilford
Catholic

I'll take a shot as well:

HSC
Bridgewater
E&H
RMC
W&L
CU
GC

I think either of the top 5 schools will have a shot to win the ODAC. Should/could be a really exciting year. It is going to very important for the champion to win at least one playoff game as the ODCA has not done well in the playoffs since Bridgewater made its run.

Good luck and enjoy the season !!!!
