B C also played in the driving rain and I couldnt believe I stayed the whole game.  I didn't see very many people leaving but I expect the die-hards were the only ones that came.  They even, shock, allowed us to use umbrellas, not that I had one.  Even with my slicker, I had to change hoodies at half-time as it was soaked.  I kept hearing what my Mom was saying (which is why I wasn't calling her):  you can't get sick, cause the germs will go straight to your new hip.  Yeah, but I got to hear them ring the bell and catch all the hugs at the end of the game and while I may never be warm or dry again, it was a great afternoon!!  The defense looked much better that it has looked and that was a nice point.  Hope to see everybody at HS.  Let there be a nice sunny day so that all can have a good time and enjoy each other's company and a good game!!! :) :) :)
Brownies for Film Day--Now there's a Slogan I can live with!!!:)  Go EAGLES!

Olinemom and BC folk.....I will be in Hatteras next weekend so won't be able to make it to H-S. I'm sure ya'll will somehow muster the strength to go on without me.  :D  Have a good time.....but no second half Eagle comebacks this year please.  Wish I could be there....but be strong knowing that I am suffering.  ;)

HSC mentioned in the Around the Nation podcast this week.

Good article and a great story. Another positive angle on this story is Craig Warnement. After being suspended and losing his position in 2007, he could have quit. He seems to have kept a positive attitude and has been a contributor to Tiger football for the last three years at other positions.  Isn't learning life lessons and growing up a big part of what college is supposed to be about ? I tell people often that my experiences in sports have helped me through this thing called life far more than anything I ever learned in a classroom. 8)

I think I read that story a month ago in Kickoff. :)

Skoal, you going to the Liberty/JMU game?   I'll be at BC Saturday, with rain gear, anybody else making it in  for the Lycoming game?
I am planning on being at the BC game.  I have a cheese bread round and a cherry strudel like I bring to the Stagg Bowl and 2 kinds of brownies.  I don't have a tent but I have a table.  What else and who else is coming?  Let's hope for a break in the rain!!

If it wasn't for Kevin's team being 6-0 and going to the Suburban Youth Championship rounds, this would have been the year to get the BC experience. (at least at BC) Had plenty of Stone Station hospitality over the years but never in it's intended environment. Sounds like your stubborn as ever (opps, dedicated as ever (:>) ) Raider2019 is now significantly taller, just in the last few weeks. Big enough to have become the ball control tailback when we're trying to hold on to a lead. He still has two weeks of regular season and three weeks of playoff. If they finish 8-0 we get a bye week so we'll see. I'll be headed to the Grandfather Mountain area in NC towards Thanksgiving to stay with my best friend for a while and hopefully see an Appalachian State game. Check your PM's.   Have fun WesleyDad. If Mount get sto Salem again, we'll be there. This time with the whole family, including wife EightiesZippy (Akron Zips)

One of the big games in the ODAC this week is Bridgewater at HSC.  Rumor has it that Bridgewater has chartered some buses for friends, alumni and students.  So we should have a big crowd in Death Valley.  Bridgewater has played HSC very tough the past two seasons after besting the Tigers for 8 years in a row prior to that.  If the Tigers are to challenge for the ODAC title they need to win this game.

It has been an interesting season thus far. I am really proud of the Waspers. I posted before the season started that I think that E&H will be conference contenders. The first 4 non-conf games have solidified my feeling. Anything can happen on agiven Saturday afternoon, but, I think that E&H will be there in the end. The guys are playing with a lot of heart and grit. Injuries have been a challenge. Jennings (#7) only played 2 quarters against NC Weslyean. We had two backups on the O-line in that game. One is back, the other is lost for the season. I am happy that conf play is beginning. Waspers are off this week. Looking forward to seeing the Tigers at the Wasps' Nest in two weeks. Great luck to all!!  WM

I agree the Wasps have played well so far this season.  The schedule breaks their way too with HSC and Bridgewater at home.  HSC has a tough game this week and then we will see where they stand.

I am looking forward to the game. I know that you can't look past BC. E&H vs. HSC will pit running against passing. HSC has put up phenominal yardage this year. I have attended all 4 of E&H's games and have seen some explosive running out of nowhere. I am thankful that E&H has 2 weeks to prepare. I hope that if you come to the game, you'll like the changes to the Stadium. The Waspers are about half done with the improvements. It is really looking quite nice. Best of luck against BC. (And BC fans....best of luck against HSC!!! Maybe you two will kill each other and the Waspers won't have as much to worry about!!...just kidding!) WM

The Quakers dominated the Southern Virginia Knights tonight in Greensboro, 48-6.  I think this was equal parts better play by Guilford (1-4) and, frankly, SVU not being very good (0-6).   Guilford got six turnovers, including a school record-tying three interceptions by Nelson, 181 yards rushing by freshman Williams and 118 yards receiving by Hasty.

In the spirit of full disclosure, however, what's up with our punt and kickoff returns?  For about the zillionth time this season, we either muffed the catch or fumbled on the return.  The best result we had all night was when we just didn't try to field a punt and let it roll to the five.  No need to ever try an on-side kick or fourth down Hail Mary versus the Quakers - just punt it - you'll get it back with great field position.  No, I'm not kidding!

Also, after thirty plus years of listening to the same announcer, I can't take it any more.  He's simply not good.  I know he's free and no one wants to hurt his feelings, but it's time to change.  It's sort of like when you tell your octogenarian Mom it's no longer safe for her to drive and take her car keys.  You love her, but you need to protect her and the other drivers.  Would it be too much to ask to prepare before the game?  And get a bottle of ginkgo biloba.  Finally, sometimes "less is more".  After three decades, you'd think you'd learn when to be quiet and let the game speak for itself instead of saying so much that's unnecessary.

As a Guilford supporter, I'd like to apologize to the fans from Southern Virginia University - I was truly embarrassed every time (and there were many!) your school was announced as "Virginia Southern" or "South Virginia".  We've played the Knights four years in a row, so it's not as though we've never seen their name before.  Also, I lost count of the times "Correction" was blared for the yard line, the penalty, the player, the score, the time, ad nauseum.  Once, incredibly, there were at least six "corrections" on the same play!  Thankfully, only about half the players have an "s" in their name, as there's a distinct whistling sound when spoken.  God help us if "Number seventy-six strong safety Sammy Sessoms stops Steven Sisosamones on second and seven at the sisteen!"  Truly awful.  I cringe and only hope the speakers weren't working on the visitors side!

Hey, I know he's free and calls the games because he loves Guilford sports.  I also know we want to be loyal ... and we have been ... but it's time.  Heck, if GC wants to save money, I'll pay them to let me do it just so I don't have to listen!  And for the second time ... no, I'm not kidding!
