With the game at E&H this week being homecoming, does anyone have any suggestions on when to arrive and possible parking options?

Since it is Homecoming and the Waspers are 4-0, I'd say Thursday afternoon would ensure you a spot on campus. ;D  In reality though, many folks park on the tailgating field on Friday night.  And with the Wasper 5K early Saturday morning, the earlier you get to campus the better.

I'm not sure where you could park either.  I know they've been doing construction on campus the past two years, so I can't tell you what lots are best.

Good luck finding a spot and enjoy the game!

This will be my first homecoming as I have always been a player and not a fan, but from everything I hear, you will need to get there early in order to get a good parking spot. We would show up at around 8AM or so for breakfast when I was playing and there were already people there. Although, I did just check the forecast for Saturday and they are calling for 50% chance of showers so that might affect how many people come (of course that could change). I like to park across the railroad tracks in the grass.

badcall!

True, the departure of Bob Colbert was a big loss to BC but there was an even bigger departure for the Eagles.  When VP Jim Benson left, the Eagles went slowly but surely downhill to the level where they are now-a good but not dominant or great program.  Anyone who is familiar with the ins and outs of the BC program could easily see it coming when Benson left.  The simple reason being that BC no longer was getting the top recruits that they got for various reasons while Benson was there.  BC will not return to the top of the ODAC unless there is a change in the current athletic philosophy of the new incoming president.

Also, after thirty plus years of listening to the same announcer, I can't take it any more.  He's simply not good.  I know he's free and no one wants to hurt his feelings, but it's time to change.  It's sort of like when you tell your octogenarian Mom it's no longer safe for her to drive and take her car keys.  You love her, but you need to protect her and the other drivers.  Would it be too much to ask to prepare before the game?  And get a bottle of ginkgo biloba.  Finally, sometimes "less is more".  After three decades, you'd think you'd learn when to be quiet and let the game speak for itself instead of saying so much that's unnecessary.

As a Guilford supporter, I'd like to apologize to the fans from Southern Virginia University - I was truly embarrassed every time (and there were many!) your school was announced as "Virginia Southern" or "South Virginia".  We've played the Knights four years in a row, so it's not as though we've never seen their name before.  Also, I lost count of the times "Correction" was blared for the yard line, the penalty, the player, the score, the time, ad nauseum.  Once, incredibly, there were at least six "corrections" on the same play!  Thankfully, only about half the players have an "s" in their name, as there's a distinct whistling sound when spoken.  God help us if "Number seventy-six strong safety Sammy Sessoms stops Steven Sisosamones on second and seven at the sisteen!"  Truly awful.  I cringe and only hope the speakers weren't working on the visitors side!

Hey, I know he's free and calls the games because he loves Guilford sports.  I also know we want to be loyal ... and we have been ... but it's time.  Heck, if GC wants to save money, I'll pay them to let me do it just so I don't have to listen!  And for the second time ... no, I'm not kidding!

I hear you, Hasanova.  I believe this is the same gentleman who, when doing basketball games, has for years spoken into the microphone just as a player is about to attempt a free throw, much to the dislike of the opposition.  And he doesn't seem to be able to come close to the correct pronunciation of players' names.

On another front, some HSC fans have watched the video feed for the Guilford/HSC game, and by extension, tuned in to the Guilford audio.  I have heard from more than one that the Guilford announcers would not stop poking fun at a couple of HSC players' surnames.  It eventually became quite insulting.

Hey, algernon.  Guilford's announcer for football and basketball has been the same person for quite a long time, so I'm sure he's the gentleman you heard.  I've noticed this tendency as well and it comes as no surprise that the opposing team would find it distracting, to say the least.  I'm also disappointed to hear about any kidding regarding surnames during broadcasts ... most people, including me, will be indulgent for awhile if a name is difficult to pronounce, but ultimately we expect professionalism and respect.  We all take pride in our name, especially our surname.

I have no real power in these matters, but I do know who should read your concerns and I will make sure they know about them.  I have their respect and they will listen to me when I forward concerns.  Thanks.

I've been on the missing list for a couple of weeks as I just changed jobs for the first time 30 years and TFA does not take to change very quickly; however I been able to keep up with the discussion.

Sounds like HSC vs. E&H game could be for all the marbles in the ODAC.
I've seemn HSC three times now and I believe they have improved with each game minus the Gettysburg game. E&H must be loaded as well, so I guess the home team should be the favored.

Where does E&H play Bridgewater ? How does RMC look ? Can they pull an upset over one of the top three teams ?

Good luck to all this weekend. May your teams play well and free from injury !!!!!

HSC85

I agree TFA that Emory and Henry should be the favorite.  In Kickoff '09 all of the Gurus picked E&H to go undefeated and win the conference.  HSC has been playing better each week but it will take their best game of the season so far to win at Emory on Saturday.  It should be an excellent game to watch.

TheEHC52

TFA, after facing Sydney at home this weekend, E&H will travel to Macon then face Bridgewater at home in two weeks.

HSC85

That three game stretch is as difficult as any ODAC team will face this season.  If E&H goes through those three games and stays undefeated then they will certainly deserve to be conference champions.

The Eagles are one player position away from winning ODAC Championships again. Which one I won't mention, you guys figure it out.  :o

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Homecoming!

Last year I attended the game with Hampden Sydney at Jopson Field.
We were down 30-6 going into the 4th and Vince Reese sparked us at QB with 4 TD's in a 37-34 loss.
He went 2 of 3 yesterday passing for 21 yards and had 2 carries for 5 yards but we waited too long to insert him into the game to see if he could bring us back again.
Hagan is still doing a better job than last year because he is no longer the most sacked QB in the nation but if it were me I would have Vince and Hagan compete in practice for the starting QB job vs Guilford. Stay tuned.

The DNR article had a quote from a HSC player that said "We were calling plays before they ran them," the junior said with a grin."  I think our offensive play calling has gotten too vanilla. If the other team could study films and pick out what we were going to run before we ran it there is a problem upstairs too. Maybe we are one coach away from an ODAC Championship.

Clark's Record with Bob Colbert as OC was 69-26;  Clark's Record without Bob Colbert as OC is 26-35.  Coincidence?

BC is 22-13 since Bob Colbert went to St. Vincent.

ODAC pick em board is updated. Enjoy.

HSC85

Jeremybozz,

Thanks for keeping up with the pick-em board.  It adds to the fun of the season.

And I think they were 7-22 in Clark's 3 years before Colbert got there in '98.  So it's actually 29-35 without Colbert altogether and 22-13 since he left.

Ok. Fair enough.
