Dad
Just joking my man. Good luck in the playoffs to those Wolverines...

abnrgr, got the joke.  thanks for the well wishes.  this is a good wesley team, as good as any that have made the semis before.

HSC85

Wesleydad,

Monclair was a solid team.  Hampden Sydney just failed to cash in or opportunities.  Missed Fieldgoal and fumble into the endzone for no points.  They like to run a zone run play or a lead play that has a lead blocker to the point of attack.  HSC did adjust to it and shut down the running game in the second half.  Similar to what they did to the Bridgewater offense in the second half of that game.  Their passing game is a short middle look time after time and then they hit a homerun on the deep sideline for their only succuessful play of the second half.  It was a long TD pass.  I would expect Wesley to shut down their offense.  Monclair State's defense was well prepared and disciplined.  You will have to earn every 1st down.  They are not especially fast, but they do have some size on the line.  The only impact they had on HSC was they knocked down a few passes.  As you know HSC does not run the ball much especially between the tackles.  I think the game last week was a good 4/5 game.  Either team could have won the game.  I don't think either team can give Wesley a serious test unless Wesley has several breakdowns.

Good luck to the Wolverines.  It would be nice to see someone different earn their way to the Stagg.

Well said HSC85. I agree with your analysis, with the exception that this is a young Montclair team that may have a chance if everything falls into place.  ;D
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

wesleydad

thanks hsc85.  good explanation of what went on, and rams1102 who i have also found to be good with info agrees.  i agree that if wesley plays a clean game this one will be tough for monclaire, play sloppy and a good defense will keep a team in the game.

I knew this would become a desolate and barren board as soon as the Generals and Tigers got whacked. What is wrong with you guys? Your jobs getting in the way or something? LOL

Everyone be safe this holiday so we may continue our "playful male bantor"

I am reduced to Havelock High NC State 3A playoffs......

And I'm reduced to the VT-UVA game on Saturday.  Tailgating just off the North Gate.  Walking distance to the stadium about 50 yards.  Yeah, it's a bit quiet here and you indicated.

Happy Thanksgiving to all D3.  See you in Salem next month.  Regardless of who is playing.

What else do we have for an ODAC football board? It's not like national signing day is real big for the DIII guys!

That being said, I got up to W&L this fall for the first time since graduating in 2000. I'm thrilled with the new facilities. Since I was a frosh in 1996 W&L has finished new locker rooms / training rooms under the stadium, a beautiful new baseball stadium, a new weight room / cardio area (badly needed versus the dump we had when I was there), a new turf field, and the stadium renovations. I think the administration's ongoing commitment to upgraded facilities is partially responsible for the uptick in Generals football in the last 10 years (2 ODAC championships and more competitive teams).

We still have some room to go with the gym needing a big refit, but I really hope that the ongoing improvements will help out our standing in the traditional big sports  where W&L has lagged. Football, baseball, mens and womens basketball have all underperformed versus W&L's ODAC success in other areas and it seems we are on the path to more success these days.

I certainly won't mourn the old Wilson field with its 1950s style oversized metal bleachers and sterile atmosphere. Maybe with the uptick in performance and the nicer environment we'll start getting more Generals to the games in the fall. Then again, with the loss of tailgating, I think that might prove to be an uphill battle. If you haven't seen a game in Lexington recently, it's probably worth a visit these days. And for a post-game meal, I vote for the Southern Inn downtown...

Skoal!! How are you?
Anyway UVA is going to be mercy killed. Virginia Poly Tech will smite them....

Say hey to your buddy Jack D.  :)

It could be a lot worse ... Havelock usually has a pretty good team.

All conference team is posted. Just wondering how the ODAC selects its Honorable Mention players. It's not like the USA South which has an honorable mention at every position.

wesleydad

skoaltrain, good to hear from you.  yea, only a month until the stagg.  already planning for what brews to bring.  really looking forward to hanging with you guys again hopefully with no snow this time.

HSC Tiger
Yea I coached and taught there 97-2001 until the war pulled me out. I played there in the 70's during the days of DEFENSE. They got less D and more offense now.

They got a bye this week because the team we were suppsoe to play got into a bench clearing Friday night and they lost the chance to play. Never heard of that since 1971 anyway. So they are automatially in the eastern final!! I know the AD is freaking because they lost a 3rd round gate.

Well, here's another off-season topic:  what type of coach is a good fit to turn things around at Guilford?  I spoke to some "folks in the know" Saturday afternoon and they said they have well over 100 applications and hope to interview during exam week and make a decision by Jan. 1.

HASA
I would have to say a former recruiter. They say Hank Norton at Ferrum in the day would just press gang them. LOL.

But I think someone who gets them in the door and keeps them there. They got to have seniors (as you you intimated ealier). I also think they can find a ton of speed down at the coast that are not sucked up by Coastal Carolina.

New Bern, West Craven and Havelock always has a speed merchant that does not go to ECU. South Carolina got a OT from Havelock so I know his back up might acceptable.  :)
