olinemom--sorry to hear about your mother.  my thoughts are with you.

I know purple and purple is boring--we think so too--was really hoping to be playing against someone blue next week--but I'm glad to be coming back and I look forward to tailgating with the Stone Station once again!!  This year I will be bringing my "baby" daughter who is  studying law at W & M, but was born at Rockingham Memorial Hosp. when we lived in Dayton, Va. just around the corner from Bridgewater--we did all our grocery shopping at the IGA by the feed store.   So she really is a Southern Lass!

See y'all on Saturday!!
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

Tradition! tradition! Tradition!!  Looking forward to seeing all of my d3friends at the Stagg Bowl.  My brotheres have all encouraged me to come, saying Mom would have wanted me to!!  So the brownies and I will arrive on Tuesday and I'm there for the week!!!  OLinemom

After I lost my brother, the former Raider66, I had no doubt he'd be mad if I didn't continue without him.(Him, Kevin and I made it to Purple Bowl 1 before he got ill)  They want us to keep on keeping on.

The peanut butter balls are rolled and waiting till Thursday to be dipped in Chocolate to make "buckeyes".

See y'all in the AM Saturday in Salem. (Might have trouble pulling myself out of bed at the Hotel Roanoke 8-) )
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Is W&L the kiss of death in D3 playoffs? W&L lost to Thomas More who immediately lost to Mary-Hardin Baylor who immediately lost to Wesley who immediately lost to UWW. Can Mount Union finish off the W&L chain??? The really sad thing is the only loss that was remotely close was MHB losing to Wesley. Every other game in the chain was a blowout...

Anybody can lose but the Wesley beating by that margin at their house was unexpeted.

MU winning it will just be the 11th time.................that's alot

W&L. Perhaps they over loaded on wine and cheese... :)

I was surprised by the Wesley score but with 5 picks what do you expect? As for MU, I give them all the credit in the world for being a D3 football powerhouse. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my wine and cheese and showing up for games in shorts, jackets and ties with bourbon in the flask hidden in my pocket! It's a lot of fun rooting for an occassional .500+ season rather than dealing with the crushing expectations of a stagg bowl berth every year!

I also thoroughly enjoyed knowing that the guy sitting next to me in class might have played football, hard to tell because he wasn't any bigger than anyone else on campus, but he was really there because he wanted to learn as badly as I did. And that is why I love D3 athletics done correctly!

Guilford's whittled 200 applications for Head Coach down to a short list for further interviews.  Stay tuned ...

There was 14 pts scored after the picks started at the  Wesley  1 and the 20. Unfortuantely the loss of Krout was the biggest blow that the Offense couldn't recover from . The players gave it there best buit some of the young kids just wern't ready  yet!!
Football !!! The ultimate team sport. Anyone who plays DIII football is a winner...

Nope. I broke up the response into 2 paragraphs so I could address the previous post and then address what I liked about D3 athletics in my college experience. I suppose you could take my comment about Mt Union and find an inference about MU kids not enjoying wine and cheese as much as I did? Wasn't meant that way, sorry. I don't think you could possibly have a question about my believing MU has an expectation to make the Stagg Bowl every year?

'K--Most of our players wouldn't be recognized as football players either.  I have Neyjel Thomas (true freshman that rotates in behind Budzinski) in class this semester--he's in our FYE program (a self selected program for students that want additional academic challenges and opportunities)--he's no bigger than the regular frosh--and he's smart.

I came to Mount after teaching at Univ. of Arkansas when Lou Holtz was coaching and James Madison Univ. (right after they hired Lefty Driesell (first job post Len Bias).  I was really down on university/college athletics when I got here and then I met/worked with LK, Monty, and the rest of the Mount staff--I gained a huge level of respect for D-III athletics, LK and his philosophy/work ethic...

Anyway, anyone who thinks that Mount is some sort of "football only" university with a bunch of mutant aliens is so far off base that it's not even funny.

There may have been some DI or DI AA level candidates, but the finalists all have DIII experience.  I know where the finalists are working now, but it wouldn't be appropriate to comment until the committee makes its decision.  Any way it shakes out, I think Guilford will get a solid coach.
