Rusiewicz better have stolen some players from the Eagles, Bow Ties, and Tigers over the holidays.
I'm not sure what he's got so far, but I do know he's in his office most nights when I go to the basketball games.  From what I heard, he brought one guy with him from Ursinus and has interviewed the rest of the current Guilford staff to see who he may want to retain.  He's from PA, so maybe he'll get some of that legendary football talent to come south.  :)  Anyway, any player he gets away from BC, W&L and HSC would be a bonus!

well Hasa no indoor track for me
I got 3 feet of snow on the ground in the yard. No sweat. I can still see Rocco my lab when he goes. But we got 2 more feet coming today into tonight. I guess he will be over his head. Road to track facility closed. Damn

Where are you these days, abnrgr - Colorado?  I hear a whole swath of the midwest and eastern seaboard will get socked the next few days.  As long as my cable doesn't go out Sunday when the Super Bowl's on, it'll be ok!

I am skulking about north of Boston these days......

Not to beat a really dead horse but they need some oversight WRT refs. Some of the guys I saw dealing with ODAC games specifically in NC had just come from High School JV games 2 nights before. Horrific.  :'(

Don't feel like you are on an island because we have the same situation in Southern California regarding Chapman/SCIAC contests, in virtually EVERY sport. It has become increasingly worse since we went to additional officials in football and basketball. The pool available becomes increasingly shallower. It is not uncommon to hear laughter from the crowd, even when the call went for their team.

I do compliment the Texas crews and the NWC officials for the contests that I have seen in those areas. I have seen some D2 and D1 refs in the NW. I feel too many times thay do have an impact on te outcome of the game, irrelevant of who I am cheering for.

I suspected the pain was spread around. I cannot talk to the rest of the country but it good to know somebody has standards. When I was coaching in high scool in NC (pre-war) I was standing on the sidelines with the head coach. We both were stressing because it was the 3rd round and the players were about to come out and the white hat runs up and just screams "spit out that chew and you better not say a word during the game" Me and the head coach looked up and laughed.

I expect that in high school where the refs have local ties. But not a college football game. The refs never said that during my NAIA stint but I saw some horrific "personal vendetta calls" with the expected "you better shut up". Sometimes I think it should be a requirement to have played at some level of any sport you officiate.

You just put so much in the game as a coach and to have it decided by a person who could care less;  just a "where is my check" attitude. Perhaps I took it too seriously.  :)

I got a chance to meet and chat with new Guilford HC Chris Rusiewicz last night at the quarterly Quaker Club meeting.  Looking forward to what I strongly believe will be his positive impact on Guilford football.  He and his coaching staff are working hard to bring in recruits for visits - I think he said he hopes to bring in 150 kids for visits this spring and is well on his way to doing so.  Spring practice is coming up soon (March 21?) and he invited alumni, students and friends to watch.

You're welcome, abnrgr.  He talked a little about his coaching strategy and he'll definitely stress Defense over Offense.  Probably a 4-2 alignment and some modifications of the nickel package.  He also said "we will not pass 70 times a game," so I feel it'll be a more run oriented offense that looks to control the clock.

Yeah, I saw it.  We need some good hands guys of our own this year!

Guilford's predictable - and boring nonconference - 2011 football schedule's been posted.  Just take the 2010 schedule and reverse the home field.  Personally, I'm weary of Southern Virginia, Greensboro and Averett.  I know it keeps the travel budget low, but come on.  Let's go to Georgia or Tennessee or Pennsylvania or somewhere!  At least when Shenadoah joins, we can drop one of them.

You're right Hasa. Not many people were at the 2003 or 2004 Carson Newman game. I was. The score was absolutley horrible but the wheels did not fall off until late in the 2nd. We had 2 TD's just dropped in the endzone. 14-0 on the road would have been something. But it was a money game. Played against somebody who will make you better. They need a $$ game with somebody big. As the 2nd game.

Southern VA/ Averitt? The social, econonmic, educational, entertainment, mecca's of the western hemisphere.  ;)

I'm not necessarily saying we should play a DII like Carson Newman, but what about Maryville, Sewanee (University of the South), Rhodes, LaGrange, Johns Hopkins, Dickinson, Ursinus, McDaniel, etc.  Averett's field is terrible and Southern Virginia plays at a high school in Buena Vista.  What do we have to gain playing an NAIA school?  I'm just bored with the same four nonconference shools for about six years in a row - I think it lacks imagination and initiative and takes away the learning opportunity for the boys to experience several different venues in their career.
