I will root for your boys tomorrow because I do not want to see another Euripides or Sophocles tragedy played out on GC-Qs campus. Like Pericles fretted about ;)
I admire a man who knows his Greek tragedians.  I'm sure Sophocles could win another play writing competition if he had the Quakers for inspiration!  Perhaps tomorrow will produce a football battle worthy of Marathon, perhaps with an ironic score such as 26-3.  :)

Bow Ties 49 in the first half. No upset today

I was going to do a running update on this one, but it got ugly so fast I think I'll just leave it alone. Four turnovers by Guilford in the first half pretty much took the fun out of this early. I'd like to see the Generals start playing some underclassmen now that we're in the middle of the third period.

I'm not saying Guilford was ever in this game, but there are so many injured players.  We're trying to compete with a lot of 2nd and 3rd guys on the depth chart.  I knew it would get a lot tougher once we hit the ODAC.  Congratulations to the Generals.

I'm going to say the Quakers just didn't get a break to start the game. If they were going to be competitive, they really needed to play error free and work hard at holding the ball. It just didn't happen. With the second/third string qbs rotating in and out they looked disjointed on offense right from the get go. You need to throw against W&L this year, and they just didn't have the guns to do it. Still, they came out every play. While they made mistakes, they never got chippy and always put in the effort. I think we've all been there where either injuries or just a couple bad years recruiting or whatever leads to a team that is just not competitive. It happens. Hopefully it doesn't last too long.

I agree.  Coach Rusiewicz is in his first year and he inherited an 0-10 team, which makes recruiting an uphill battle.  He impresses me as the sort of man who will turn this around and begin fielding competitive and, eventually, contending teams.  It's just tough to watch as an alumnus.  The coaches thought our starting QB was coming back this game, but that was probably too optimistic.

After this Teuoburg Forest disaster there will be the "rounding up of the usual suspects" at the end of the year if the 1st team QB does not recover

sorry... Teutoberg Forest. Got confused with Carrhae :)

Either way the Quakes must recruit new Legions

Charleston Southern loses to DIII Wolverines!! At home!!

They were D-1 2 A (or whatever it's called now). Heads will roll.

I'm not saying it isn't a big win for the Wolverines, because it is. But you are talking about an 0-5 FCS school that has been competitive once all year and looks to have given up on the season already. While it is always fun to see these kind of things happen, both UTSA and CSU are the absolute bottom of the D1 scholarship schools universe. I like Appalachian State knocking off Michigan as much as the next guy, but despite the division these guys play in, I hardly feel like they qualify. Sometimes I wonder if the European soccer leagues with their promotion/relegation scheme is a stroke of genius. Pretty sure both UTSA and CSU would be firmly relegated from their current "lofty" perch. That being said, congrats to Wesley on a job well done and bouncing back from early season disappointment.

UTSA (now 2-3) only lost to #16 Sam Houston State by 22-7 on Saturday night.  That program seems to be getting better each week.

I am glad that we caught them when we did, after their opener blowout win and after our blowout loss to Stephen F Austin.

I stand corrected. I didn't recheck UTSA before setting up the post mainly because the post was primarily about CSU. I notice UTSA's opening win was against a D2 school (Northeastern State) that is 2-3, with both UTSA and Northeastern State steamrolling NAIA Bacone. I don't know enough about D2/NAIA to make any kind of guess about the quality of those wins.

No malice assumed.  Bacone is weak.  They lost to Sul Ross State on a neutral field.

Northeastern Okie State is fair.

Clearly the Wesley win was more impressive, comparing the dynamic nature of the 2 programs.  UTSA will be a force as the team in football crazy San Antonio, a city of 1 million that has not had D-1 football priot to this.  I wonder if Charleston Southern can break thru in the crowded Southeast.  In

I'm not sure how I'd determine more impressive. Like I said, I think they are both big wins, but not the giant killer we all would love to see. I'm just glad W&L plays in the ODAC and doesn't face the kind of scheduling challenge that would lead to putting D2, NAIA, and FCS schools on the schedule. I know I sometimes complain about W&L struggling to recruit, but the ODAC is such a good geographic and demographic (smaller liberal arts schools) conference for us.

Maybe we should just abandon thoughts of conquering Germania (read W&L) and be satisfied with life south of the Rhyne River (read Dan River).  :)  Where's Russell Crowe (aka Maximus) when you need him?
