Interesting read below:

i don't know a lot about the ncaa recruiting rules, but this doesn't seem like it would/should be permissible - i know there are tons of regulations regarding when a coach can contact athletes (after the junior year of competition, if i'm not mistaken) and the type of contact that can be made - it seems like there could be an awful lot of gray in this practice

i'm not making any allegations, just observations that might be 100% inaccurate

edit: did some quick research...again, i'm not alleging wrongdoing, just questioning the practice

found this http://www.spfldcol.edu/homepage/athletics.nsf/83B6DE78F797D9BE852577F5005947E4/$File/Newsletter3.pdf

and thought the following information was most germane:
1) Face to face contact, off campus, may not be made until the prospect has com-pleted his/her junior year of high school. - i imagine there are juniors on the football team at that high school
4) Contact shall not be made with the prospect at any site before the contest on the day or days of competition. Once the prospect reports 'on call' for the contest and until the prospect is 'released' after the contest, no contact may be made. If the competition takes place on multiple days, contact may not be made until the prospect is done competing and released.

NCAA bylaw 13.02.2 (https://web1.ncaa.org/LSDBi/exec/bylawSearch) says:
A contact is any face-to-face encounter between a prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete's relatives, guardian(s) or individual of a comparable relationship and an institutional athletics department staff member or athletics representative during which any dialogue occurs in excess of an exchange of a greeting.

hmm....

Right or wrong, that just doesn't look good. Provided the newspaper is accurate, I think at the very least Coach Favret is going to get yelled at by the AD at H-SC about exercising some common sense.

i think there is very little chance that the newspaper isn't accurate, given this quote from the article:

QuoteBrookville coach Jeff Woody, a former Hampden-Sydney football player, did not dispute that Favret has been on the Bees' sideline in some capacity at more than one game this year. Woody insisted Favret was not involved in any play calling during Saturday's game.

"He's been there a couple of times this year," the Brookville coach said. "He's volunteering. He's helping out. It's not that he's calling any plays whatsoever. It's a situation, 'Hey, you need to kick a field goal.' Something like that.

"He's not in there coaching by any means. He's just in there hanging out with me and enjoying football."

the question is more one of "contact" with potential recruits during a "contest"...it seems pretty obvious (unless the brookville coach is lying) that he has been on the sideline during games a number of times...

Very interesting.  Seems like a huge advantage to HSC to have Favret at the games.  Like it or not, the players (and there will be sophomores and juniors!) are going to be influenced by Favret taking an interest in their games ... and the comment about "he may say 'kick a field goal'" sounds like coaching advice to me!  How else could you describe it?

I've run into several people who've asked me about my moniker, "hasanova".  Well, here's your answer:

Nice car!  ;)

8-track?  or just AM band radio as original equipment?

I'm confident Coach Favret is not violating NCAA rules; probably another article written without all of the facts.
I don't think any coach would violate NCAA rules in an public forum, particularly a D3 coach. I'm sure all facts will be investigated and nothing will come of this, at least that is my hope.
