Not sure about the comparison of an Air Force Academy transfer vs. a kid that received a ride from an SEC school (two of them actually). Nobody pays to go to Air Force so many kids get accepted, show up and try to make the team. SEC schools only have 85 rides to give and this kid received one. Time will tell if he is the real deal or not but common sense would indicate that a kid receiving a ride from UT is probably going to have a pretty good career as a QB in the ODAC

Yep. A point I made in the original post. He's probably going to be pretty good, but time will tell. That being said, while I'd love to see my Generals bring home another league crown (1), I'd also love an ODAC team to win a playoff game or two just for the league's sake (2). If this kid is that good, it makes (1) less likely, but (2) more likely. Kind of a double edged sword.

Generals first, but ODAC second. So I guess I still hope he's mostly hype until we hit mid November!

Sorry Hasa. I knew he was D1 from the state. He was "Air Vogel", was he not?

If this guy is 75% of Vogel the "Kittens" may be unstoppable in the conference.  ;)
He certainly set some passing marks at Guilford that'll be tough for anyone to top.  I remember, among others, a 75 passing attempts game versus Catholic and an 8 TD game versus Southern Virginia.  "Air Vogel" is as good a moniker as any.  :)  Ah, if we'd only had a defense!

Air Vogel was better than anyone I've seen in the ODAC and the ODAC has had some really good QBs over the years.
Hopefully the transfer from UT will be able to make a similar statement in the ODAC.

Jknezek, hopefully the W&L vs. HSC game will be just as entertaining this year as it was last year. One of the best ODAC games I've seen played. HSC dominated first half and W&L dominated the second half but well played by both AND the officials stayed out of it.

I think Macon is going to be tough to beat in 2012, thankfully we play them at home.

Bottom line we are all pulling for our respective schools, secondly pulling for the ODAC to advance in the playoffs. It really needs to happen. I think W&L, RMC and HSC will fight it out again this year.

Certainly agree. That first half was frustrating as W&L looked completely lost. The second half was much better, but the score still flattered the Generals. While the Generals could score at will, the Tigers could score almost as easily in the second half. The score was that close because the Generals had the last meaningful possession. Wouldn't have looked that close otherwise.

With the amount of change at W&L, I'm not sure the Generals will be fighting at the top this year. Losing Westfal, a new head coach, some seniors gone from the O-line (including our unbelievable center, who never got the press or credit he deserved in that offense. poor trench guys never get the gold stars!), and even some from the "bend don't break" d-backs have me thinking the Generals are closer to a middle of the road ODAC team this year.

That being said, what is known is that the Generals still have a capable core of running backs, a TE that is going to be deadly if we can get him the ball, and a new coach who was instrumental in the Generals uptick the last few years. So I am hopeful that we will not return to the bottom of the ODAC any time soon.

Time will tell, but I think many of the six non-hyphenated teams are close enough to be fall out based on home/away schedule or one or two key injuries or step up players. Overall, W&L's conference schedule sets up easier than last year with the big two at home and unfamiliar Shenandoah late when we will have lots of game tape and perspective.

Of course our non-conf schedule is a bit harder than last year, with F&M on the road (and a team I don't expect to lay the same egg they laid last year), an improving Sewanee team on the road (though we will have to see how much they have improved, especially since they run a very similar offense), and a Centre team at home that might be riding a high from the previous year, but has a lot of graduating holes to fill.

I can see W&L at 5-0 with a lot of momentum going into the 10/13 game with R-MC, or 2-3 and just trying to hit 5-5 at the end of the year.

Ruz is recruiting close to home that's for sure.

As I have mentioned in earlier posts GQ magazine is still trying to get me to do a underwear gig for them.

Hasa, you might deserve a boxer round the ears for that one, but I'll go +k instead.

Hi, the best humor is subtle and when no explanation is necessary.  :)  Checking in from Seoul, South Korea.  Hope everyone in ODAC land is well!  +1 to you as well.

How will SU compete in the ODAC next year ?

Top three teams in the ODAC next year ? I see RMC, HSC with  Bridgewater & W&L fighting it out for the 3rd spot.

jknezek

H-SC and R-MC at the top

W&L, Bridgewater and E&H scrapping the next level

Guilford, Catholic and SU struggling at the rear.

If I was doing the whole conference with records it would look like this:

H-SC  (6-1) loss to W&L    tiebreak win versus R-MC at home, loss to W&L on road
R-MC  (6-1) loss to H-SC on road
W&L   (5-2) loss to R-MC at home and Bridgewater on road
E&H    (4-3) loss to H-SC (road), R-MC (home), W&L (road)
Bridgewater (4-3) loss to H-SC (home), R-MC (away), E&H (home)
Guilford  (2-5) win over Catholic (home) and SU (away)
SU        (1-6)   Win over Catholic (away)
Catholic (0-7)  tough season.

So H-SC gets their conference definining win at home versus R-MC, R-MC gets theirs on the road versus W&L, W&L gets theirs over H-SC at home, E&H takes Bridgewater on the road, Bridgewater takes W&L at home.

If this plays out, I'm hoping H-SC and R-MC go undefeated non-conf and the ODAC gets two bids like 2010. H-SC has two likely regional ranked caliber teams on the schedule, CNU and Huntingdon (though I suspect CNU will go to the playoffs, Huntingdon will not based on their killer schedule). R-MC has one likely regional ranked caliber team on the non-conf schedule, Johns Hopkins, and Bethany from the traditional bottom to middle of the PAC as a possible wildcard.

W&L's non-conf is a mixed bag. I expect Centre to take a step back as they were a very senior loaded team last year, F&M to be better than last year's egg, and Sewanee to be slightly better than last year's improved mid-tier finish in the SCAC. So while Centre might be regionally ranked, I wouldn't bet on it and W&L's schedule doesn't look real strong.

E&H has Ferrum, Maryville (new coach and a lot of offseason turmoil), and Methodist, the 2-4-6 finishers from the USA South last season, and I expect Ferrum on the road to be the only real challenge, but no one worthy of regional rankings.

Bridgewater has St. Vincent, Greensboro, and Apprentice School. Not much to say about that. St. Vincent from the traditional middle of the PAC is the only legitimate possibility for regional ranking, Greensboro from the bottom of the USA South, and Apprentice who has gone 2-8, 2-8, 1-9, and 2-7 the last 4 years.

So the ODAC will need to eat its own to make a strong case. I think H-SC and R-MC will be regionally ranked. W&L stands an outside shot if they can sweep their non-conf and have only a loss to R-MC heading to the late season (11/3) H-SC game. Anyone else is going to have to upset at least one of the big 2 at the top and pretty much run the rest of the slate.

Wow Jknezek. I almost died trying to figure out the odds on last mail.  :)

Havelock, junior, 6-4 260 DT, Malcom Ashley, commits to ECU today.  I thought he had a shot at GC-Q but I guess he was better than I realized. He was a beast in the state championship game. There goes my scouting job.... ;)

About the same as winning the lottery. But hey, if I'm going to make ridiculous season predictions in April, I might as well go all the way! The nice thing is, come mid Nov I can come back to these predictions and laugh and laugh and laugh...

abnrgr, that 6'4" height probably helped him land a spot at ECU.  DI coaches love those 6'4" to 6'7" guys on the D-line who can get a hand in the QB's line of sight.  Most of the DL guys at the DIII level are 6'0"-6'2", I think.  Rusiewicz has 36 commitments so far, so I'm hoping for continued growth in the program - maybe 4 wins this year?

tigerfanalso

36 commitments, how many guys will he carry ? My memory is most the players last year where young as I sat and watched GC score at will on my Tigers. I think the final score was like 61 to 49. Both defenses were absolutely horrible that day.
