hey guys-

i'm new to the boards as i just finished up my playing career in 2011. i am wondering...what are everyone's thoughts on the CNU/HSC game this weekend?  both schools pull a majority of their roster from richmond and there should be a huge crowd for a non-conference game.

The freshman at Guilford will be a good player in the future if he is brought along properly. He is just too young and he is not ready. He has accuracy but lacks arm strength. That is why the tight end took the snap at quarterback to throw the hail mary at the end of the LOSSto Greensboro. Great decision coaches. Playing a kid who is not ready does not help him or the team. Matt can be allowed to mature and learn without being thrown to the wolves or he can be sacrificed by a coaching staff that is more concerned with manufacturing their own employment longevity. I'm not the only alum at the games that recognizes what is going on. Alot of former Guilford players became coaches and have seen this before. It is nothing new. Unfortunately, you will see on Saturday what I am talking about. Greensboro is not representative as to what kind of players and coaching Guilford will face this year. Methodist will be fast and mean as hell. Their coaching style is aggressive and attacking. who knows, maybe I'm just full of $*** and have no idea of what I am talking about. Maybe I've been walking around for the last 30 years with my head up my rear-end. Maybe hasanova and the staff at Guilford are the football geniuses they bill themselves as. Time will tell.

ECU ... I don't know the man personally, and it's certainly possible that I'm wrong, but I feel pretty sure that Hasanova is not on the football staff at Guilford. As a matter of fact, my impression has always been that he's just like the rest of us, a loyal and interested alumnus who wants his alma mater to have success with her athletic teams.

CNU has a beautiful campus, and stadium. You guys must be pretty excited to get out of the high school stadiums they play in the USA South.  CNU will only get better when they make the move to their new conference.

As for the game this weekend people were saying maybe 15k to attend. I know CNU has great home crowds. I think it will depend on the weather AND how CNU fans travel but it should be awesome. I heard the CNU band is coming too. Better get there early to get a good seat.

How should HSC matchup against CNU ? Anybody have any real insight.

I'm really happy to learn that Averett is planning to build a new football facility. Having paid my first visit this past Saturday it is sorely needed. I don't see how they recruit as well as they do with the current facility.

How is the new Day Field looking up in Ashland ?

This is only phase I, as another dorm will be built next, with stadium and fieldhouse to follow.

looking at last week, it appears CNU's offense is ahead of its defense and vice versa for HSC.  last week, CNU gave up no sacks to salisbury, who usually puts decent pressure on the qb.  with impressive performances by d-ends russ leboff and aaron arant last week, the HSC defense notched 6 sacks against averett.  it'll be interesting to see how HSC puts pressure on CNU as their qb threw for 253 yards and no interceptions last week.  putting pressure on the quarterback is usually a big key to a game at any level.

on offense last week, HSC had its lowest passing total since 2010 against Bridgewater.  with new qb nash nance, if HSC's veterean and large O-line (averaging about 6'3" 285) can protect him and make room for an all-conference caliber running back in evan king, the tigers should come away victorious.  a matchup to watch will be CNU's justin navarro (6'4 220, 2 sacks last week) against HSC tackles tyler white (6'3" 285) and will ferrell (6'4" 310).

nonetheless, the game will draw an extremely large crowd and it will be a hard-fought battle between two teams trying to establish themselves as the top d3 recruiters in richmond.

Hasanova is a pretty damn good fan and alumni. 8-) He is also a good guy for a liberal.  ;) I am on the other hand a knuckle dragger.

But he is not a coach. He's just a fun guy who loves his school and has a what? a Nova

I talked with one of our coaches recently that said one on the Averett starters last week was also recruited by HSC. Well at least until they saw his 1.8 GPA and 600 something SAT score. I think that has something to do with how well they recruit.

Didn't know I was part of the conversation this week.  lol  Yeah, definitely not a coach, just an alumnus, former soccer player and a fan.  I am President of the Quaker Club (Athletic boosters) this year, so probably a little more interested than most.   And yes, I do own a 1968 Chevy II Nova, which was my car when I was a student at Guilford.

Don't forget to get your picks in by 6:00 tonight for week 2 pick 'ems. If anyone missed week 1 but wants to join us, please feel free to jump in. With ten weeks left there should be plenty of time to get back into the mix.

Knuckle draggers are an important branch of my family tree!  :)

More great news out of the guilford football program.  Last season a player was injured and spent a week in the hospital. Today that player got the news that his student loans have been revoked. Turns out that the players credit has been completely destroyed because Guilford did not pay tens of thousands in hospital bills. That players dad owns there successful businesses and is consulting his business attorneys about legal actiion. That kids credit is ruined before he even has a credit history. Sounds like it could get ugly.

All tigers today against CNU. Nash nance settled in and completed 25 of 31 passes with 5 tds and 0 picks. 42-0 with 8min left in the third before the starters were pulled. Hsc will have a week off to heal up some minor injuries before revenge game against Huntington.
