To fans of D-3 football everywhere.  I am honored to have been asked to spread the word regarding a new cancer fund that has been established to help Tom Pattison, UW-W sports broadcaster and founder of www.warhawkfootball.com    I and my family know, all to well, how a cancer diagnosis can be devastating to a families daily lives and finances. Please, consider making even the smallest donation to Tom.

The following is an open letter by Retired UW-W Coach Bob Berezowitz:

Team Tom Cancer Fund Drive established

Once a Warhawk, always a Warhawk are the often spoken words by Tom Pattison, longtime "voice" of the Warhawks. Over the many years of broadcasting UW-Whitewater football, basketball and baseball games on KOOL 106.5 (and prior to that (940 WFAW), Tom has "bled purple" during each one of his broadcasts.

Unfortunately, on May 28, 2012 Tom was diagnosed with advanced stage 2 colon cancer. He underwent colorectal cancer surgery in Fort Atkinson and in the process has developed astronomical hospital and medical bills.

Tom has already gone through the first phase of radiation treatment at the UW Cancer Clinic along with chemotherapy with phase two starting later this month.

Tom has given his heart and soul to Warhawk athletics over his 25 years of living here in southern Wisconsin. He served six years as the president of the UW-Whitewater Quarterback Club and still serves on the club's board of directors.

In 2003 Tom founded Warhawkfootball.com where Warhawk fans, players, former players and parents have been able to view up-to-date Warhawk football news and information 365 days a year. Nearly 1.5 million visitors have clicked onto the Website over the years.

The Website that has been funded entirely by Tom has been a popular "voice" for Warhawk football fans not only locally but around the world.

Well now Tom needs your assistance in his battle with cancer.

With the help and leadership of UW-Whitewater Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Paul Plinke and former Warhawk football coach Bob Berezowitz and KOOL 106.5 Radio a team has been set up to lead a campaign to raise funds for Tom.

The "Team Tom Cancer Fund" has been established through Commercial Bank in Whitewater and is now accepting donations.

Donations may be sent to: Team Tom Cancer Fund, c/o Commercial Bank, 200 South Freemont St. Whitewater, WI 53190

The fund raising drive will also include Tom Pattison Day at Perkins Stadium on Oct. 6, 2012. More details will be announced shortly.

"I have known Tom for many years while coaching and now in retirement," Berezowitz said. "There is not another person who has given more of himself to help promote UW-Whitewater football. He is always writing articles for both past and present players that are published on his Website.

It is now our turn to say "thank you" for his efforts by considering making a donation to the to assist Tom in his time of need.

Go Warhawks,
Bob Berezowitz

HSC85

One of the most dominating performances that I have seen against a good team at HSC today.  42-0 at end of third quarter when starters were removed.  CNU kept fighting and put up some points in the the 4th quarter.  HSC was impressive on both sides of the ball.

Good to see RMC and W&L bounce back to the win column today as well.

CNU85

HSC. - I wish that "good team" put up a little more fight against your guys. We played better against Salisbury! We couldn't stop anything you guys did. Nice grab on the QB transfer from Tennessee. I can see why he was there! He tore us apart!!!!

Good luck the rest of the way. Hook up next year if you come to CNU. I will show you around! We are really looking forward to the 4 year series.

Was gone camping all weekend in order to get to the W&L game up on the mountain. It was nice to lay eyes on the Generals this year but, despite the win, I wasn't real happy with what I saw. The Generals offense is definitely a step or two back this year from the last two years. The defense looks about the same, though I think they will be very vulnerable to the pass, fortunately something Sewanee does even less than W&L. I hope Coach Abell is holding some things back in the offense, because it looks very simple compared to what was run the last 2 years. Possibly a result of Westfal's graduation. Either way, the Generals overcame some unbelievably horrible home cooked refereeing to pick up a road win against a Sewanee team that has made good strides in the last 2 years. I guess I'll just have to be happy with that and see how they stack up against Centre next week.

Hasanova I apologize for including you in my rant earlier in the weeks
It's okay, ECU.  We both want to see this program turned around and able to compete.

Thanks hasanova

Please note, ECU, your screed from last night has been deleted. This is your warning. You've been kind of close to the line already but that was way over it.

The greatest danger is not that we aim too high and miss, but that we aim too low and we hit it.

Very impressed with HSC this past Saturday. Our offense is always good but it appears the defense is going to be a factor this year. They almost pitched a shutout against AU and I believe all the scores by CNU came after most of the first team defense had been removed from the game. If certain things go our way, I believe this team can be special. We still have Huntingdon to deal with and that will not be easy, than the long ODAC grind begins at CU and tough road games to BC and W&L, E&H at home and of course, THE GAME the second Saturday in November. Lots of football to be played but I like what I've seen so far.

Guilford vs. Methodist
Don't let the score fool you. Methodist dominated guilford all night. GUILFORD scored two touchdowns in garbage time against 2nd and third stringers and they were stopped several times on each scoring drive. Methodist kept getting personal foul penalties which was the only way Guilford could move the ball all night. Our defense has no concept of gap control and offense sill running and throwing into their strength. Press coverage wold completely shut down Guilford's offense.

Looks like the RMC O-line played much better this week, no sacks, over 300 yds rushing.  Where was Josh Storm, no extra point tries?  A two point conversion instead?  Hopefully he's not hurt, he'll be sorely needed moving forward.

having watched most of the game on the video feed (which, by the way, was pretty solid), i have to agree with your assesment - the frosh qb showed some promise...the rushing td was a very athletic and instinctive play and the last td was a very well thrown ball, but neither of those plays should have happened because of bad mu penalties which extended those drives - there wasn't a point in the game where i felt that gcq had a chance to win, though...it was as lopsided as the mu/gcq game has been in recent memory

What is mind boggling is the Guilford coaches were smiling, laughing and patting each other on the back. I was able to hear the coach's postgame speech and he appeared to be extremely happy with the teams performance. I just don't get it..

My son is a freshman at Guilford and plays football. We were so excited because he has gotten to play in the first two games. We took him and a couple of his teammates out to dinner after the game. What he said broke my heart. He asked me and my husband if we would be mad at him if he quit playing football. Of course I said That I wouldn't be mad but I cried all the way home. It was really hard for us financially to send him there but he was so excited about playing college football.  He just loved his coaches in high school in football and baseball. He just said he hated it and I don't understand. My husband would be furious if he knew I was doing this but do any parents have any advice.

Dear Quakermom,
I have been a coach and have had some of my own kids play. Alot of fresman struggle in that first year. Being a college football player is tough and the schedule alone can wear you down. I would encourage him to stick it out through his first season. Hopefully he'll feel better about it as the year goes on.
