The only thing Zac Halbert, last years starting Guilford QB, did in the off-season was put on 20 lbs. of muscle, increase his speed and endurance by running daily, organize his receivers for throwing sessions, learn the playbook better, gave up a lucrative summer job to train in Florida with his senior receiver and players from (Miami,Ga.Tech, Central and South Florida), go into debt to attend Guilford and make the Spring honor roll at the school. Would be a good pick-up for any D3 school looking for an experienced QB to transfer in.

My son put 50lbs on his bench press lost 10 lbs to get quicker, worked out 4 days a week this summer, purposely got a job that kept him outside on the heat and all his coaches say he has made great improvement.  He still doesn't start. Why? It's because his coach feels he has better players at his position. Who am I to argue?  I don't go to practice. I have faith in our coaches ability to evaluate our players. And even if I was mad as hell at his coach (I'm not) what good would it do to post messages on this board?  It just looks bad.

A few years ago App State benched Trey Elder who started in the prior years National Championship for a freshman named Armanti Edwards. Worked out pretty well for App (2 more Nat. Championships). I don't know anything about whats going on at Guilford. But I have a feeling their coaches want to win more than you, me or anyone else. I hate the kid did not win the job but that's life.

Somehow I just don't believe all that is evil/bad coaching comes from Guilford College. Give them a chance. It's their 2nd year. They were 0/10 before he got there.

Thank you HSC Tiger fan.  From a Guilford parent that is also feels the coach at Guilford wants to win as much as anyone else.

Damn. I have been on this board since 2000 and this is the most traffic for GC-Q I have ever seen. Parents involved too. It is good to see some people trying to help out.  :)

I suspect the only normal kids at that school are jocks. I feel for the boys

HSC Tiger fan. Your right, you don't know whats going on at Guilford. When Guilford comes to Hampden Sydney I would like you to go to the game and watch every minute of it. If your son doesn't start I'm sure he will see plenty of time in the second half because of the lead they will have over Guilford. Then comment on this board about how much faith a parent should have in a coach's ability.
Football fan: Sometimes a coach's desire (or want) to win and his ability to win are so far apart that they will never ever meet.

I am a Guilford Alum that supports the school and have every right to call out bad decisions that affect the students there.

Just so you know I too went to Guilford and have a friend whose son is a freshman there. Still you are  right that doesn't make me an expert on whats going on there. But somehow I don't think any of those things make you one either.

What I do know is that the new coach has made an effort to recruit locally which amazingly your old coach did not do. I hate things did not work out for the best for the QB. I'm sure the coach would be the first to admit he doesn't do it all right every time. But who does?  He's been there 12 games.  He didn't inherit the defending national champs.

As a fan, I don't see how anonymously slamming anyone on this board or any other board does anyone any good. I doubt the AD is going to make a change based on  anything he reads here, nor should he.

Best of luck to all the ODAC this weekend.

I have a feeling that going to Guilford didn't make you an expert on anything. As I said before , time will tell.

Will someone out there tell me where I can get a job that gives me 4 or 5 years to prove I can't do it. Sounds like a good gig.

Sure; as a head coach for a college team. The administration is probably keeping an eye on the situation, and I wouldn't be surprised if other alumni are already voicing their displeasure, but short of criminal behavior or some other sort of malfeasance no school is going to dump a coach after only twelve games.

Knowing what my son and his friends are going through and hearing the struggles of others make me wish I had never heard of Guilford College.

I get that you and quakerdad are upset. I don't mind you two venting a little here but there are also proper channels for your displeasure as well.

In other words, it's getting old. We get that you don't like the coach. If you have something new to add to the conversation, please do. If not, please move along.

I humbly apologize. I just didn't realize that I was posting on the D3 FEELINGSmessage boards.

Final Guilford 45, Averett 35

On a positive note from Guilford, the Quakers topped the AU Cougars today in Danville, 45-35.  From looking at the stats, it appears the freshman QB Matt Pawlowski had a very good day in only his 3rd college game - 18 of 28 with one INT for 239 yards and 3 TDs passing/1 rushing.  It was a balanced offensive day with 237 yards on the ground - Mike Williams led the way by picking up 151 yards and a score on 13 carries.  Nice!

Good news Hasa. ODAC 1-1 so far in what I consider underdog games this weekend. Catholic got creamed, but I thought this might be a chance for Guilford to get on the board. Hopefully they can build on this entering the conference schedule. W&L has to get a win tonight at home. R-MC and E&H both won as expected. I would say the ODACs overall weekend depends on the Generals.
