fun football game to watch and listen to.  congrats to shenandoah for their first odac win.  have some nice players on offense and the defense played pretty well.  bridgewater struggled in the first half and it cost them.

Congratulations to Guilford. They showed up to play in Lexington and took it to the Generals. The Quakers earned that win. I'm sad to see W&L's home win streak end on such a weak effort, but in the ODAC you have to come to play every week.  Nice win for the Quakers.

Best quote from the last week ... and this is something I might have written myself, jknezek:

Shenandoah at Bridgewater... eh, Bridgewater is going on their 4th game versus a bad team. Wake me up when they have to line up against some better ones.

I gave Pat some grief earlier this year for Kickoff predicting Guilford would win in Lexington. I will officially take my beating now. Did not see that coming but, after a night to think about what I saw, W&L has some serious issues. And I stand by the comment I made a few weeks ago that the biggest problem is the passing game.

While the Generals threw a few times last night, most of the passes weren't really on target. However, the one that was, to a wide open running back 20 yards down field that would have gone for a touchdown, the receiver just dropped as it went right through his hands. If the Generals make that throw, the game goes to 16-14 and Guilford has to keep another man or two back. That would have finished opening up the running game and W&L probably would have put points on the board in the 4th quarter. Dropping that pass was one of three game killing plays. The other two were the 15 yard penalties on the first two drives. W&L was all over Guilford at that point, and going up a score or two early would have had the Generals living in the Quakers heads.

As it stood, the Quakers played a better game and deserved the win. This could be a long ODAC season for the Generals. They are missing the edge they have had for the last few years.

Shenandoah made plays when it counted and played with a lot of passion. They earned the win. BC was their own worst enemy w the turnovers on O and bad tackling on D. Yeah, the announcers were killing me. On to HSC and see if we can muddy the picture up. BC can have some say about things w next 2 games. Hang on boys, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

The Week 1 games may have put RMC and HSC a bit more in the driver's seat for an ODAC Championship, and Guilford appears to be more of a team to be reckoned with at this point.

Can Washington & Lee rebound on the road at Emory & Henry next week?  Can Bridgewater rebound at HSC?  I'll bet on the home teams in both of those games, but they should be good ones and could go either way.

RMC can keep things rolling with a win at Catholic, and Guilford will be able to keep their chances alive by getting a win over Shenandoah at home.

regaleagle, yes bridgewater failed to make plays, but I think it had a lot to do with how shenandoah played.  Since I was just watching, eventhough I have some good friends with Stone Station, the announcers didnt bother me, just found it interesting that they were waiting for the sky to fall on their team.  After doing some quick research and seeing how bad they did last year in the ODAC I guess it was understandable.

It was a good week for Kickoff, because we also took some (significantly less scientifically broken down) grief for predicting North Park would win a conference game for the first time in 13 years. :)

Thanks.  It was a nice win.  I drove to Lexington yesterday to watch and this is my first opportunity to post.  A couple of observations:  best defensive game I've seen by Guilford in a while, the Generals have very little in the way of a passing game even when they try, nice contingent of Guilford fans on hand, Wilson Field is a beautiful facility and the Guilford kicking game was stellar.  In addition to three of four FGs (the miss was a 46-yarder off the crossbar) and a PAT, Tyler Hunt boomed two punts and five kickoffs deep - bad starting positions for W&L most of the night.

A solid victory earned by Guilford.   This is the Quaker team I've been expecting - I think this was the turning point in their season.  The Averett loss was a foul-weather fluke and the Methodist game was close.  I still think this can still turn into a solid season.  :)

Sort of a good week anyway. Predicting Guilford winning in Lexington was big, but I'm wondering how confident you are about Bridgewater these days? Granted they looked much better in the second half, but given the places they have to go (at H-SC next week for example) they are going to have to be much better than even the second half to win the ODAC.

I know you are asking Pat Coleman this question, I hope you don't mind me chiming in.  Bridgewater and WL are now in a playoff mindset.  They know another loss most likely eliminates any chance of a conference championship.  This in my opinion makes both of these teams very dangerous.

Interesting weekend that's for sure.  I can assure all  that CU is good.  Their running backs are nearly as big some of the linemen in front of them and they pound you when they run.  Pitzinberger is listed at 237lbs and Cortese is 222lbs.  It took and excellent effort as well as sustaining a lead from keeping them from running the ball more than they did.  It was a a physical game.

Kudos to the HSC OL!  HSC ran for 236 yards this weekend.  3rd time this year the Tigers have rushed for over 200 yards. They have also only allowed 5 sacks this season in 186 passing attempts.

Yes. I was taking a very gentle and completely undeserved poke at Pat. It will be interesting to see how Bridgewater and W&L respond. I've readjusted my expectations for the Generals this year. They just need to show some improvement. I am very happy with the first year tailback and the sophomore linebacker. Both will be studs going forward. But for this year, something seems to be missing.

Bridgewater at H-SC has me very, very curious for next week. R-MC at Catholic, W&L at E&H and Guilford home for Shenandoah are ALL much more interesting games than they seemed to be just a couple days ago.

Pat Coleman

I think I'm just about as surprised as everyone else that this was the first conference win Shenandoah mustered.

One of the things I'm seeing this year, or maybe I'm just noticing it more, is a lot more running and balanced offenses. Guilford ran well on W&L all night, Catholic is running more, H-SC seems to be running more, and someone pointed out that contrary to my thoughts, R-MC is generally a very balanced team. I will be interested to see E&H's attack this weekend. It has been potent all year, even if they came up low against R-MC.

Thoughts on Shenandoah? When the offense was moving in the first half, was it balanced? Obviously W&L's is not balanced, but it does seem the rest of the ODAC is coming back down from a few years of a lot of teams throwing like crazy. Then again, it could just be my warped perception...

You are right about interesting.  BC could beat HSC, CU could beat RMC, WL could beat EH and none would be a huge upset.  I doubt this all falls in place but it is interesting. But one thing that's certain - either GC or SU will be in first place after week 2.  Who would have thought that?
