Congratulations to GC's Matt Pawlowski for earning this week's ODAC Offensive POTW award.  If he stays healthy, he'll be a force at Guilford the next 2 1/2 years.  Go Quakers!
He was also just named to d3football.com's Team of the Week.

I'm a huge, huge fan of run-heavy offenses but sometimes you just HAVE to have a bit of a vertical passing game to get a quick TD or two.

In the game against Guilford, W&L had two dropped TD passes -- both times the ball hit both hands of the player.  One was in the end zone.  The other time W&L had an RB 20 yards behind the defense.

Penalties are killing the W&L offense.  On Sat. the Generals had 5 or 6 straight drives with holding calls.(of course EH had the game winning kick return called back for a hold)

The W&L QB went about 8 quarters with bad spacing on the option, much different offense in the 2nd half of the EH game.  Generals are also a slow down team this year, not much room for offensive mistakes.

I'm not sold on the Generals D.  They aren't getting teams off the field on 3rd down.  Guilford just ate clock and kept the ball out of the O's hands.

A couple of weeks ago I decided that W&L was a .500 team this year; however they are not an easy win.

Funny. This post has many of the same comments I've been making using different language. Glad it's not just me that is looking sideways at the Generals this year and seeing the same things over and over. The option spacing is a good way of putting it. I was thinking timing. It seems like the pitch receiver was ending up in front of the qb before the qb was getting to the decision point, allowing the defender to abandon the receiver and shut down the qb right at the corner. It was painful to watch in the Guilford game over and over and why the only thing that worked was the big first year on the dive up the middle.

Ah well, I'm hoping for 6-4, optimistic we can get an upset and go 7-3, but really I think this is not the Generals' year. Nice to hear from you onceamink, hope you'll contribute some more. I've been the main W&L contributor on the football board for a while now.

I was at the Guilford/W&L game in Lexington and the Quakers did efffectively burn the clock.  Some of their drives seemed like 7-9 minutes.  The Generals did make some crucial penalties and they did drop one key pass I remember, but all in all Guilford was the better team that day.  Good luck to the Generals the rest of the season.

The final score is all that matters; GC beat W&L in a upset. My guess is W&L would win that game most of the time but
you only get one chance at each opponent each year and the better team does not always win; that is what makes sports so interesting. I my case I wish HSC had another shot at CNU but we don't. Need to take your medicine and move on.
GC beat W&L; if they can beat either RMC or HSC, GC might be is the drivers seat for the ODAC. If W&L beats both HSC and RMC (which they could) they may well be in the drivers seat. This is a four team race; I've got to think BC will pull off an upset at some point during the season which could make things even more interesting. Lots of football to be played. The next five weeks are going to fun to watch. I believe any team finishing with one ODAC loss will win the conference. I don't see any team
running the table. Tie breaker to decide ultimate winner. Playoff seeding not good !!!!

I'm actually not sure that W&L would beat GC most of the time. I think W&L would win 3 or 4 in 10, but I think GC is the better team right now. As for the rest, I somewhat agree. I predicted this would be a messy season for the ODAC. I'm a little less sure right now as HSC and RMC both seem to be playing very good football. HSC getting past Bridgewater was big. How Bridgewater reacts will be interesting. A season that started with promise could quickly evaporate and go very sour, or they could pull themselves together and enjoy the spoiler role.

You could be right, tfa, about W&L winning most of the time, but I think GC has a much more balanced attack at the moment - passing and running.  Our defense has stepped up the last two games.  The 29 by SU is a little misleading as the starters had built a 49-7 lead before the back-ups finished it out ... I think the GC coaches made exactly the right decision in giving them playing time and not risking injury to starters in a game long decided.  Guilford's had some success with RMC and BC, but HSC is a different story ... the last Quaker victory in the series was 1999.   I'm pretty sure Chris Rusiewicz is not looking any further than BC ... in fact, in his presentation during the last Friday Quaker Club breakfast, he refused to even comment beyond the next day's game.  It's all about Bridgewater this week.  I am very much looking forward to the rest of the ODAC season, but I think it'll be a logjam and, as you said, a lower seeding for a conference champ with probably at least two losses overall.

Who knows what will happen. Each week is unique unto itself not knowing which team is going to play over their heads/under their heads. I see the conference this way; IF RMC & HSC play to their ability each week(and that is a big IF), I see those two going into Nov. 16th undefeated in conference play. Neither one of those teams are good enough to beat GC, W&L, E&H, BC or SU if they have a let down and play under than their potential which is why ODAC football is so much fun to watch and to follow. Obviously injuries will have much to say about final outcomes but lets hope there are none. See you on Nov 2nd and good luck until then, not then, but until then !!!!!!

I assume you omitted CUA from the "GC, W&L, E&H, BC or SU" list because the Cardinals have already lost to both RMC and HSC, but ... I think CUA could possibly get a crucial win.  I enjoyed that very carefully worded last sentence of yours: "See you on Nov 2nd and good luck until then, not then, but until then !!!!!!"  lol

Thanks, Photos for bc.  I came to BC for the Guilford game in 2007 and we were soundly whipped that game (76-28)!  Tomorrow's my Mom's birthday so I've decided to skip this one ... it takes about 11-12 hours to make the round trip from Greensboro and take in the game.  Hope it's a beautiful afternoon and the score's a lot more reasonable than 2007!  :)

I simply forgot CAU and I agree, I think they are capable of pulling an upset (maybe ????).
Hope your Quakes play well.

Another good week. RMC takes W&L at home. Bridgewater gets angry and lets Guilford have it. HSC gets a little complacent but wins at E&H. Shenandoah plays Catholic close at home, but not close enough to get the win.
