How is MC on the defensive side ?

Do they run a balanced offense ot more prone to run and/or pass ?

Roughly 2:1 ratio rushes to pass I think. Definitely a run heavy offense. I think they ran pretty heavy even against Huntingdon when they were behind. They've been pretty good defensively, but E&H, LaGrange, Methodist and Huntingdon, going from moderate passing to heavy passing, put up points on them. Pretty sure HSC will be able to score if they don't turn the ball over.

I hear you on the turnovers. I was surprised we were able to beat Macon given the number of turnovers (5).

The new stadium at Macon is nice but it really cannot handle a crowd. Limited seating on both sides and difficult/impossible to watch from the side lines or from behind the end zone. I guess they only have a large crown once every two years

To pat myself on the back, I predicted HSC had just over one turnover advantage in the game and they won by 2pts giving up 1 extra turnover (4-3 according to the stats, not sure where the fifth you quoted came from). I'm sure the game result was about more than that one extra turnover (for example 9.5 yards per passing play), but it's fun when it works out that way...

Congratulations to HSC for winning the ODAC title.  Good luck in the NCAA playoffs!

Thanks for the congrats. We'll see what happens on Saturday. If we can stay away from those darn turnovers we should have a good shot at winning.

I'm looking forward to the playoffs but I'm really looking forward to next year. I think the Tigers will be really special. The junior class is loaded and they will be a year older with playoff experience under their belts. I also think the game at Wabash in September will get them ready for the 1014 season as well.

I also see good things on the horizon for the Tigers.  Guilford looks to be "really special" next season as well ... if we can just get over the HSC hurdle.  :)

I would agree it is a big improvement over their old facilities; but I was surprised at the stadium seating. I was expecting much more than aluminum bleachers.

There's naturally a lot of talk focusing on HSC and Maryville for the NCAA playoff game this Saturday, but I want to make sure everyone knows what happened at Guilford on Saturday versus E&H.  I've been following GC football for 44 seasons and I'd never seen anything like it ... plus the SID said it was the biggest comeback in Quaker history.

To recap, E&H dominated the first half and led 24-0.  Then, the Wasps took the 2nd half kickoff for another TD and a 31-0 lead with 24 minutes to go.  Guilford then proceeded to score a TD on 5 straight possessions to win the game 35-31 with 19.7 seconds to go on a Pawlowski to Smith 42-yard catch and run.  It was special ... and a heartbreaker for the visitors.

I saw that. Guilford got the head nod approval when I read the box score.

Might be just another reason HSC is hosting, but I'm not saying its the sole reason. MC should have gotten their stuff together and won last week.

Partly. It is a surprise HSC is hosting, but if you paired these two teams HSC is the logical host. In terms of primary criteria the teams share the same winning percentage (80% in D3). In terms of common opponents they hold similar advantages. HSC lost to CNU who lost to Maryville, Maryville lost to E&H who lost to HSC. Both teams beat Averett soundly. However, HSC's SOS is 70 and Maryville's is 179.

I can only imagine if Maryville had won, and these two teams were still paired, Maryville would have hosted on winning percentage. But given the criteria and facts amongst these two teams, HSC should and is the host.

To be honest, the OOC is so much stronger in part because the ODAC went 9-4 against the USASC. And while I agree with Narch's post on the USASC board about how select top tier teams fared between the conferences this year, that 9-4 is a big difference in the SOS numbers.

I was assuming that if both MC and HSC would have won last week that MC would have still been ranked higher than HSC. Really doesn't matter to me. I have a good reason to see all my buddies still stuck in the Commonwealth.

I think that is a fair assumption. Maybe I didn't make my point real clear. The big differences I see are the 9-4 record between the conferences (as a component of SOS) and actual OOC opponents (a bigger component of SOS). Maryville's OOC schedule went 9-20 while HSC's went 12-18. Just goes to show how razor thin the margins are sometimes and how you can't control all the factors. Got to win them all to be relatively confident of hosting. With 2 losses, I'm just amazed, and thankful, HSC is playing at home.

Scots13

That's true, too. Another thing would be reputation. Why give MC a home first round game in their first appearance in the Dance? No reason to, when HSC has been there a few times and has hosted before (first jab of the week) even though they're winless in the playoffs.
