Congrats to HSC on the win on Saturday! I'll be rooting for you against Linfield but it will take a Herculean effort to win the game, but anything can happen. Just ask UWW about it back in 2005!

I have no doubt it will take great effort. With the upmost respect we are not worried about the 2005 team. Just the 2013 version.

It means like in 2005 when UWW went and beat a great Linfield team, like in 2013 where HSC is going to a great Linfield team and hoping it can get a similar result.

Wildcat'64

2005 was a GREAT team and the UWW game versus the Cats was the best DIII football game I've ever witnessed in the Catdome.  Everyone will remember the back and forth scoring all game long and the verdict coming down in the final minute of the ball game.  The 2005 team could easily gone on to win the Stagg Bowl.  That being said the 2013 Wildcats are a very similar to the 2004/2005 teams.  We welcome your conference to the Catdome as we've never had the opportunity to compare the strengths of our respective conferences.

D O.C.

Disagree with my superior Wildcat '64. The 2005 LINFIELD team had the lead and the ball with under two minutes to play. They threw 3 straight incomplete passes because they had not built a run game to trust. They now pass AND run. UWW had Justin Beaver. HSC has no three time all American running back on their team, just a good team.

Memo to Turner....ville is all.  :-*

Yep. Sounds about right...narch trying to sneak in some negativity to a positive outcome for the ODAC.

Quote from: HSCTiger fan on November 23, 2013, 07:36:06 PMNarch you must play softball.
is this your attempt to emasculate me?...funny - i once played on a softball team where i was just about the runt at 6'2", 200, so i'm not really sure how to take that comment :)

it's clear that the two of you aren't emotionally mature enough to read my original post for what it was...an acknowledgement of our disagreement and the achievement of the hsc team yesterday...i can't control how you read what i post, but i can assure you that there was no malice or negativity intended

good luck against linfield this weekend...for the south region, i'm hoping that hsc can bring home a win

GHC phones in the score for every game......it's his MO....just laugh about it....all fun intended.

I don't mind it at all. It's all fun for me. We are really excited about everything.
Your team get's to see a great part of the country at the rainier and colder time of the year (summers are the best)
and have a great trip and play some serious football.  VA is beautiful as well, was back there 18 years ago on bus. and pleasure). You will find most Wildcats a pretty hospitable bunch.

That's true and was one incredible game but though disappointing to us Linfield fans we knew getting beat was possible and we barely did by 3 points. It was #1 vs. #2 so it didn't just happen.  It was the All American passing attack vs an All American rushing game by the greatest running back I've ever seen in DIII football UWW's Justin Beaver. Dwight Donaldson, the Linfield center on the team told me that was the greatest game he ever played in  and he'd won a national championship the year before.

DOC,
You're absolutely correct....how quick I forget those small details and an All American running back (must be my forgetful senior status setting in).  It still was the best DIII game I've ever seen and if we had a running game like we do this year we probably would have brought home the national championship  in 2005.  Though as we know defenses win championships but it sure is helpful when you have a balanced offense (like we do this year).  I suspect the Tigers will be sky high having never been to a playoff game before and wanting to prove that their conference can compete on the BIG Stage, so this could have the prospect of being a real good game with their QB at the helm.

The 2005 loss to UWW turned on some critical turnovers....which often seems to be the case in big games....
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

HSC is a great story. And what a great experience they have ahead of them in making the long road trip together. This trip will create some lifetime memories for those kids.  I would expect the Cats to win easily, but the inter-region intrigue makes these playoff match-ups fun. Do what you need to do this week, Cats. It feels like we have some business to take care of a week from Saturday!  ;)

Haven't had a chance to get on here since the game, but man, what a hell of a game.  Not really all that much to say. HSC made more big plays, Walker is a stud, and the defense looked like it had a step or 2 on our guys on plays that really mattered at the end.

The 4th down call at the end really hurt MC. Went from a highest of highs to the lowest of lows in 2 seconds. If that call would have stood, it would have energized our guys and it would have been likely for us to score. Happened at the end of half, probably could have done it at the end. Of course it would have come down to a 2 pt conversion to tie it. Who knows what would have happened, first down or not.

Hate to see that kind of outcome for the seniors in such a winnable game. Congrats HSC and good luck at Linfield. Bring home a win for the South Region.

It was a great game. Maryville had a great season. A loss for either was going to be tough. You're right that the call at the end of the game hurt Maryville.  But to suggest Maryville "would" have scored because it would have "energized" your boys, is a very long stretch. First, you had just gotten the ball back with a chance to tie after a 4th and 1 stop. How much more did your boys need to get energized?   Even with this energy you were facing a 4th and 15. I doubt this play being ruled a catch would have done much to increase their energy. Even if it did, Maryville would still have had to go another 55 yards with no time outs. They surely "might" have done that but "would" have is a little over confident.

The bigger call that went the wrong way for your guys was the call by your coach to attempt to run outside on 4th and 1 in the previous drive. We were standing along the ropes just shocked they did not run up the middle.

Not much to say about the game this past Saturday. Happy for the victory for both HSC and the ODAC. MC will be a tough out next year if all players return. They are well coached and have a lot of talent. Hopefully we'll see each other in the playoffs again next year. Congrats to MC on a tremendous season. Now the Tigers need to travel West and show one of the best teams in the country that ODAC football is pretty good as well. Hopefully we'll bring back the victory.  Go Tigers !!!!!

Would be nice if it is in the second round.
