Will is a very talented OL. I wish him the very best.

Congratulations to the Generals for once again sweeping the ODAC Commissioners Cups. Second straight year for a sweep, but this year was particularly close with W&L men topping Lynchburg and the women barely edging out RMC. Considering W&L's women have held the cup for 11 straight years, RMC was within a hairs breadth of breaking a very long streak. Congratulations to the YellowJackets.

This marks the 15th cup for W&L's men and the 14th for the women. W&L has taken 17 or 19 overall cups, with only Lynchburg earning awards in 00-01 and 01-02.  For the men, W&L has 15, Lynchburg 5, Bridgewater and HSC 1 apiece. For the women, W&L 15 while Roanoke has 8.

W&L is the only school to compete in every ODAC men's sport, while the women compete in all but softball, making them second to Bridgewater who competes in every event.

For the year, W&L took titles in men's tennis, women's lax, riding, women's swimming, and women's tennis. Regular season titles were shared in men's lax and women's volleyball.

I talked with the Ferrell's today at graduation.  Will is getting a try out with the Minnesota Vikings!  Congrats to Will. Everyone that loves HSC football is pulling for him.
Awesome news. Hope he does well. What an amazing life experience to carry with you
Good luck to Will - hope he has a great tryout.  I once worked with a chemist who played DII at UC-Davis.  He showed me some video clips of him playing in Seattle Seahawks exhibition games.  He didn't make the final cut, but I was impressed!

Yes, congratulations to W&L.  I was really hoping GC would win the title in women's lax this season, but the Generals are really tough at home!

It amasing me how few ODAC titles HSC is winning. Outside of football I can't remember another sport winning an ODAC title other than b'ball in 2006/2007. I don't believe baseball or soccer have ever won a title and its been a real long time since our lax team won one. W&L dominates tennis/GC dominates golf. Maybe HSC will never win another cup !!!!

Never is a long time. That being said I feel like HSC is really devoting resources to a few headline sports. It might be detrimental to others. No real info to back it up, just a feeling. To be honest it is a sound strategy. Focus on your strengths and what will get you the most attention. Or it just could be a tough run. The rise of Lynchburg's athletic department might be part of the problem as well. They seem very strong where HSC is weak lately and weak (or in the case of football not interested) where HSC is strong. It might be siphoning off the talent. E&H is the school I wonder about. They can't seem to be competitive in anything anymore.

Well winning an ODAC Championship doesn't factor into the commissioner cup as it is based off regular season standings. Tennis won the ODAC Championship in 2009.

HSC's golf team did not win the ODAC title (GC won going away), but two Tigers were selected as individual golfers at this week's NCAA tournament.  Burt, in fact, is leading for medalist after one round with a 5-under 67.  Let's see how he fairs today after they flip courses.  The presence of two golfers bodes well for HSC golf.

Our swimming team rocks!!!!!  In all seriousness, the athletics department lost several longtime members and those individuals were extremely difficult to replace.  Then you throw in some hires that never materialized like everyone thought they would and you end up with a string of .500 seasons.  There seems to be more of a focus again to have Emory people running the teams.  I think Curt will do well and the new women's basketball coach is a great hire also.  The softball team improved this year.  I think as a whole, each team will be more competitive within the next 2-3 years.  The new president believes in having a very competitive athletics department and we all know that having support from the top makes a huge difference.

There has also been some talk of E&H taking over the VI equestrian program so that could add another sport to the mix depending on how many transfers that brings in.

When you say VI, I assume you're referring to Virginia Intermont?

Yes.  Sorry bout that.  I'm sure most readers had no clue what I was talking about.

Actually, I suspect that a large number of the ODAC and USASAC posters knew exactly what you meant. Anybody from outside the area, probably not so much.
