Sounds like your Quakers are ready to go. Good luck in your rival game on the 6th. I'm bounching off the walls awaiting this season.
Thanks, tfa.  I'm glad this Saturday's game is at 7 due to the heat, but it's 6 more hours to wait!  Good luck to the Tigers in Indiana!

Hey everybody, new CUA Football alum, hope to contribute with some much needed Catholic U perspective on the ODAC! Been reading the boards for a while now, look forward to joining the conversation. Good luck to everybody this year, can't wait for the season to start!

Just a reminder for everyone that we are doing an ODAC pick-em again this season and the first week's games have been posted, with several big ones on the schedule right out of the gate. It has been fun the past couple of years and we're hoping for a good cross section of pickers, so all interested parties are not only welcome but encouraged.
There is a Friday night game this week, so make sure your picks are in by 6:00 (eastern) that evening.

Welcome, CUACARD59.  Glad to have some fan support from Catholic.  If you make it to Greensboro for the Guilford game, look me up.  +1 to get you off to a positive start ... when you get to 200 posts (I think), you can join in that aspect of the forum.

Welcome, always fun to have some former players on the boards :)
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Jump out to a fast start. Falling behind 10+ points would be extremely problematic. They will have an excellent defense and a very good ground it out possession offense. Make them chase and make the defense take risks. Force their offense to make plays instead of eat clock. First game of the season the defense is usually ahead of the offense. This game plays to Wabash's hand a lot. HSC will need to be special to win. I believe the Tigers have the ability, but there isn't much x factor in their favor.

It goes without needing to be said that HSC can't lost the turnover battle by more than 2. Even that is probably optimistic.

Yes, I do ... and evidently so do the coaches in the USASAC who tabbed them 6th of 9 ... sort of difficult to finish 6th and be undefeated.  lol

I think Wabash has more question marks than HSC.  HSC replaces 4 offensive linemen to Wabash's 3. But everyone one else on the HSC offense returns.  Wabash has to replace 5 or 6 on offense. Wabash has to prepare for the most unusual offense any of their current players have ever seen. An offense lead by 2 all-Americans, it's leading rusher from a year ago and an all-ODAC TE.  Wabash is replacing both it's kicker and punter. HSC returns from injuries both its kicker and its punter from 2012. The kicker was all-ODAC IN 2012.

I know with Wabash it is all about defense. Wabash only played 4 teams that scored over 250 points last year.  Wabash played 3 teams that scored 143, 169 and 174 total points for the year!  Yet unbelievably they played another that only scored 69!  That's 4 games against complete offensive ineptness. 4 teams that combined to average less than 14 points per game.  It wasn't just the Wabash d that looked great against these teams.

HSC on the other hand, played 8 teams that scored over 250 points.  HSC averaged giving up 19 ppg whereas Wabash gave 11. It's not unreasonable to think that had HSC had a chance to play the likes of Hiram, Oberlin and Aleghany they might have brought their opponents scoring average down a little.

I look forward to a great game. I think it's possible, just as I am blinded by my love for the Tigers the poster's for Wabash are as blinded as I.  I know I'm biased but at least I admit it.

Now that's out of the way, on to Step 2....

But in all seriousness, HSC does have a good chance of winning the game.  At this point I see it as a toss up. I wish the Tigers well.

I'm scrambling to find enough laptops to watch the MC/Berry game, HSC/Wabash game, and the UT/Arkansas State game Saturday afternoon.

If HSC does not turn the ball over this is going to be a great game. Wabash knows we throw the ball, how well Wabash defends the pass will determine the outcome because HSC is going to throw it 50+ times. Another key will be how well HSC defends against the run. HSC cannot allow Wabash to drive the ball, need some three and outs. Tough matchup for both teams. Something unusual could determine outcome.

Whoa.  You are way out of line here.  It is COMPLETELY believable that Wabash played a team that scored 69 points.  Did you SEE that Allegheny offense last year?  It was brutal.

But seriously, I love it when we start to compare the bad teams on one schedule to the bad teams on another schedule and use it as evidence that one team is probably better than another or one team probably isn't as good as you might think.  When good teams play against good teams, I don't want to know how those teams did against the bad teams they played.  Totally irrelevant.  I want to know how those teams did against the good teams they played.  That's useful information.
