Congrats on the great start to the season. I'm a little taken back by the # of tackles credited to one of your DB's. Other than he is a very good player, does that mean the front seven is having problems stopping the run ?

Who plays E&H this week ? The new coach out there has turned things around pretty damn quick. Shocked they beat RMC. Either E&H has really improved or RMC is struggling right now, maybe both.

This coming weekend is no time for your Gennies to get their act together. Would greatly appreciate it if they were to wait another week !!! You said they were not very good but I'm not buying that until we get out of Lexington alive. Tigers better not take them for granted, if they do, their season could be ruined. Is BC and E&H for real ? I get the fact that GC is the real deal (although I wasn't buying into that until this past Saturday).

GC2005

Tigerfan,

I think GC's front seven looked suspect at times.  I get that W&L has a run based offense, but I just think GC has to improve up front.  On the other hand, I'm not taking anything away from the W&L backfield, they are young, but they are going to develop into good ball players.  All in all, I think W&L exploited the weakest part of Guilford's defense during the game on Saturday.  GC looked pretty good against the pass, but then again W&L's passing game isn't HSC's passing game either.   I'm sure the Tigers will do this without me having to say it, but they had better keep to their assignments on the defensive side of the ball or they may get a surprise.

Going back to what you said previously about the schedule, I think the teams this year can all be a threat to each other on any given Saturday.  ALL of the remaining games on GC's schedule have the potential to be bad for GC if they don't show up to play.  I really think they have some tough tests on the road too.  They have only had one road contest thus far, and by what I saw I would consider it to be shaky at best.

I will be interested to see how the W&L/HSC game goes, along with all the other ODAC games this weekend.

Thanks, tfa.  A bit of a statistical oddity, but GC has put up 52 in each of their three home games.  I think the 22 tackes and an interception by Stevenson can be attributed to two factors:  1) He is very good and is a preseason All-America pick 2) our front seven are a bit weak (so far) against the run especially against a team such as W&L ... so more guys are getting through to the secondary.  It's a fun time and each Saturday can't come soon enough this season.

E&H is better. I'm not sure RMC is much better than last year. About BC, I don't know. I think they are going to win more than one conference game, so I suppose they are going to be better as well. I don't think they are a real threat to win the ODAC.

I don't think W&L can hang with HSC. Lexington isn't the fortress it was a few years ago. I do expect the Generals to keep it closer than they did against Guilford, but a lot depends on if HSC can get out in front quick. If they do, the game could get out of hand. HSC has enough upperclassmen to prevent a let down.

HSC got out in front 17 to 0 in that 4OT game two years back and we saw what happened. I know W&L is not nearly as good but getting out in front and staying there can be two different things. If we do get out in front, hopefully we'll go more to a run game to shorten the game and force a run oriented team to play from bad field position, unlike what we did in 2012.

odacsuperfan

Guys it's really hard to predict anything so far this year. Any given year teams may be down that historically are above average. I think Johns Hopkins and Wabash were the 2 best teams that ODAC teams played out of conference. Wabash is now ranked 10th. HSC got beat but not blown out. JH blew out RMC. GC is destroying teams but GC opponents have  looked really weak. HSC did struggle with CNU and maybe Methodist struggled against GC. If GC wins they will earn it because their finish is brutal. The real question is how good is E&H , BC, SH, and can RMC come back ?

GC2005

Tigerfan,

You're exactly right about HSC getting out in front early...I'm guessing they failed to do so in 2012.  W&L doesn't have the ability to play from behind, it's just the way their offense is built.

ODACFan,

You're exactly right about not being able to predict what is going to happen from one week to the next.  Shenandoah concerns me, as I think they are ever improving.  I've also heard good things about Coach Yoder.  One game that really interests me this week is the E&H @ Bridgewater game.  I haven't heard much about Bridgewater this year, but everyone say E&H is improved from last year.  That actually scares me because E&H put the bully stomp on GC last year for 2 and 1/2 quarters...so I could tell the ability was there last year.

HSCTiger fan

I'm not sure this year's WL team can play from behind but in the past they have shown to be quite adept at it.  In 2011 HSC was leading 28 to 0 in the 3rd quarter against WL and held on to win 42 to 35. In 2012 HSC had a 17 to 0 lead only to lose 45-42 to 4 over times.

Personally I don't think it's too early to predict. Heck the coaches made predictions 3 weeks prior to the season started. If anything we have more knowledge about the ODAC teams than we did before.

If you look at the teams' records - HSC, GC, CUA and SC are exactly where most would have expected they would be. EH and BC are better thus far than expected and RMC and WL are worse than expected.

The W&L teams of 2011 and 2012 had much more explosive talent. I don't think this team can come from behind, though they  made a good effort against their first three opponents. Against Guilford it was just too much too fast.

Ah, 2 1/2 quarters were truly ugly, but all Guilford fans will always remember the last 21 minutes!  Greatest come from behind win in my memory for the Quakers ... and that goes back to the fall of 1970.

Hasa,

That's true, it was certainly worth the five dollars I paid to get in the game...and then some.  I distinctly remember the offensive line coach, who was a teammate of mine, "imparting wisdom" on the young men after they had come off the field.  I remember being on the receiving end of more than one of those sessions.... :)

Weather forecast in Lexington on Saturday is calls for rain. Deck is already being stacked against the Tigers !!!!!

GC2005, come by and say hello prior to kickoff or during halftime on Oct. 18 or Nov. 1 ... I'm usually at the Quaker Club corner of the Pepsi Fan Zone ... if not, most folks in the area know who I am or where to find me.  If it's similar to some of the coaches I've had in my life, the folks in the back row could hear the "wisdom" as well as the players on the sideline.  lol

Seriously? If we were making a line on this HSC would be a 21 point favorite. If a little rain derails the Tigers then, to paraphrase a great moment in coaching press conferences, "they aren't who we thought they were."
