Our capstone class for econ was the reason we took comps in the spring. History of Economic Thought. Loved that class.

Nearly 80% of my classes required papers throughout the semester AND a final paper over 10 pages in length. High school kids complain about 2 pagers. Noobs..

W&L and MC might have more in common than I thought. Must be the fact Isaac Anderson was a pre-W&L graduate. It's like we're 5th cousins. :D

I'm guessing most small liberal arts colleges have similar classes and processes, although maybe not as specific as Maryville's. I never took a standardized test at W&L. Not once. Quite a shock when I got to grad school at crappy FAU and it felt more like h.s. again. I would have hated sitting in large lecture halls and taking classes with graduate assistants. I'm a huge proponent of a small school liberal arts education. We know small classes and individual attention from instructors are the best way to learn. Basic theory of education classes teach that. And yet people love Big State U and the football team! Well, that and the significantly smaller pile of gold required to graduate...

First time I've seen/heard MC being compared to W&L academically. Interesting.

Absolutely.  My undergrad was at a large state university, and I hated it.  Hated it.  I had no relationship to any of my professors (save one), and I never felt like I learned enough to deserve my degree when all was said and done.  Fast forward to graduate school at a small, private D-III school and the difference is like night and day.  Lesson learned.  I'll definitely encourage my son to consider smaller private colleges when he's of age.

I'm not saying Maryville is Ivy League, buts it's no Southside Virginia Community College either. I will bow to W&L on the "who's tougher" any day.

But back to the tuition thing:
(from each school's website)
CNU
IN-state: $11,140.00
OUt of state: $16,304.00

Maryville
$41,842

HSC
$50,974

W&L
$61,310

The number you quoted was for one semester....that still leaves a pretty big gap, but I've heard that private schools offer a lot of scholarships and grants to offset the high tuition cost.  If they didn't, they'd probably have a hard time keeping the doors open, 'cause most kids would likely choose a state school to attend.

Must be the end of the season. We've strayed from football horribly. I'll take the blame for it, but I don't have a way to get it back on track. Just can't find myself excited about H-SC going to Wesley.

It seems I did. I apologize.

But, this is why many say D3 kids pay to play.  Are there any other public D3's in the region? CNU is an anomaly around here.

Salisbury St and Frostburg St. The current NJAC. But if you are talking NC, VA, TN area, I don't think so.

Knowing where you come from, I'd expect no less.

If you want to talk region as in the football regions then you can add UT Tyler, UT Dallas and Sul Ross to the list.  Dimly lit grass covered path back now also accessible.

No football but I wouldn't have gotten that one.

Jk

So you having a hard time getting excited about the HSC vs. Wesley game ? I certainly hope Wesley is feeling the same way, come out flat, not motivated, go through the motions and basically take it easy on us. I'm sure there is no chance of that happening.

Assuming the top seeds all advance to the semi finals, which schools will host those games ?

I'm assuming UMU and UWW will host. But we don't know for sure. Looking at last year's bracket UMU sat in the top left and UMHB in the bottom right. This year UWW sits in the top left and UMU sits bottom right. I also can't come up with a reason you wouldn't have those two host this year. Remember secondary criteria states amongst undefeated teams you can use previous playoff history.

Best reason I can come up with is weather; too damn cold at both of those places !!!!!
