Wabash Hokie

Hampden-Sydney Alumni:

We look forward to meeting you on Saturday, September 5th.  As of this writing, the reservations for the Wabash tailgate number just over 250 and is growing daily. The tailgate will start at 11:00 AM in the parking lot next to the TigeRec facility.  We hope you stop by for a visit.  The campus looks similar in size to Wabash - how long will it take to tour the campus on foot?  Secondly, will the bookstore be open before the game? I hope to pick up some HSC swag while on campus.

Two weeks and counting...

Considering how much Wesley must be saving on travel now that they joined a conference, one flight probably isn't so bad. I wonder if they will channel the savings into some facility upgrades.

That would be Kirby Fieldhouse for those that don't know what TigeRec is and/or where it's located.

Wabash is 60 acres HSC is 1200.  HSC is much more sprawling campus than Wabash.  It depends on what you'd like to see as for the length of time to walk.  I suggest starting at the Walter Bortz Library then to the bookstore, then the commons, then the HSC Hall of Fame. total time assuming you spend about 10 minutes at each about an hour.

It's a beautiful place. Safe travels. By the way, Wabash tailgate may start at 11:00 but the gates open at 8:00 am. HSC tailgate starts at 8:01, ends at 12:55, starts again at halftime, ends again in 18 minutes, starts again immediately after the game and ends after dark. At this time the bands start up at the frat houses and this lasts until late into the night.

Glad to read that at the HSC Tigers know how to throw a tailgate.  Our Tiger friends to the South (read DePauw) still don't admit that their students drink (even though they are one of the top-ranked party schools) and have no idea how to host a football game.  I look forward to the HSC experience.  Good luck on the 5th.

As someone who visits the Hampden-Sydney campus regularly for summer college (and to occasionally get a game of golf in with Jim Simms after summer college is completed), you do want to take a tour of the campus. Twice the size of Wabash with plenty of space and beautiful landscaping.

Just up the hill from Kirby Fieldhouse is the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest. The Center will also host an open house on the lawn (which overlooks the football field) beginning at 11 a.m. I will be there for a brief time before I get ready to broadcast the game for the Wabash fans. Make plans to stop by and learn more about H-SC from the students, faculty, and staff gathered at the event.

Soup's ready!

Nineteenth annual Soup Bowl will be played September 5 at 7 pm in Jamieson Stadium at Grimsley HS in Greensboro (home field for the Greensboro College Pride).  Admission is usually free with a donation of nonperishable food items for a local food bank (I assume the same this year).  The two schools compete both on the field and to see which school raises the most donations.  Football, food and fun in this intracity rivalry now standing 10-8 in favor of the "visiting" Guilford College Quakers!

Just a reminder for the ODAC folks, Kickoff drops today. Get your orders in and enjoy the reading. Best place for full coverage of DIII football. Pretty much the only place to be honest. That doesn't make it any less enjoyable. Sales help support this site and the D3 football site, so it's good for you in multiple ways!

I took the link today to sign up, entered my email, but was never asked to enter a password.  Thinking I must have done something wrong, I signed up again --- still no spot noticed to enter a password.  I tried the password to D3sports.com, but can't get in.  Someone else know how this is supposed to work?

Guess I'll have to contact the credit card company to cancel one of the transactions.

I think your password gets emailed to you and then you can change it after the first time you log in. If you've bought it in the past, then your old password stays active.

One thing I'm not sure of yet, maybe you can help. Is Kickoff something that's downloaded to the computer, or do we just log on and read (like a newspaper)? Once we've paid, of course.

Log and read online. It would be about 400 pages I think if printed. Huge amount of information. Similar format to d3football.com site, just the content for Kickoff is protected until you pay. Well worth the $11.

Thanks jk. That was the only thing that was holding me back.

Thanks.  I did get access, but I am signed in and charged twice.  I'll have to work out registration 2 with the credit card company.
