Am I missing something? I'm not saying I'm right but here's the way I see it.

HSC can go 6-1 in ODAC but that is not enough without 2 losses from WL. HSC can be in a 3 way tie with EH and WL but cannot win the point differential tiebreaker.
GC can go 6-1 in ODAC but same as HSC they still need 2 WL losses. There's no scenario for GC to be in a 1 loss 3 way tie.
EH can go 6-1 in ODAC but then they either need HSC to lose again or have beaten WL by 6 or more if the regular season ends in a 3 way tie with WL and HSC.

Still not willing to look for these answers.  ;D

I wouldn't be looking either if HSC was 4-0 in ODAC.  I would remind all readers that last year HSC was 4-0 while BC was 2-2. They both finished the season in a 4 way tie with EH and GC. No one saw that coming. So a lot is still possible.

W&L enters the D3 poll at 22. The first time they've been ranked in that poll. This makes the fourth ODAC team to make the poll at some point with Guilford also making it this year.

Pat's pollsters are a bit slow - W&L has been on my fan ballot for three weeks now! ;D

Happy to see them there for the first time. Be more happy to see them win what will be a tough road game this weekend.

There have been five.
BC
HSC
RMC
GC
WL
Only 2 have ever finished a season ranked.

WL and GC having both been ranked this year represents the first time since 2010 that 2 teams from ODAC have been ranked in the same season. That year it was RMC and HSC.  I say it's about time WL to be recognized. With much respect I hope it motivates EH this weekend!

They've been on some of our ballots too. One person does not a poll make.

I think you missed my point -- your ballot is the same as one of our ballots. W&L wasn't in the fan poll last week and wasn't in our poll last week. You saying they were on your "ballot" but not in our "poll" is a false comparison. They had just as much support in our poll as they did in your fan voting.

You got me - I thought they were in the fan poll top 25, but I now see you are correct. :-[

QuoteSU's Comeback Falls Short Against Tigers

Posted: October 26, 2015
Star staff report
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY — Host Hampden-Sydney survived a furious Shenandoah comeback to prevail 38-33 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference football action Saturday at Everett Stadium.

With 49 seconds left, Hampden-Sydney (5-2, 3-1 ODAC) picked off Shenandoah quarterback Hayden Bauserman for the third time to seal the win over the Hornets (4-3, 1-3).

SU, which was seeking its second straight victory at H-SC, put itself in position to win it with a Bauserman to Leonard Scott 3-yard TD pass with 1:36 to play and then executing a perfect onside kick to retain possession.

Bauserman, who threw for 333 yards and three touchdowns against three interceptions, drove the Hornets 39 yards and had a 1st-and-10 from the Tigers 28 when he threw the fateful pick.

Hampden-Sydney, which had 478 yards of its own, ran out the clock to clinch the victory.

The final exchange capped a game in which Shenandoah took the early lead thanks to a two-play, 79-yard drive to start the game only to see Hampden-Sydney score four of the game's next five touchdowns to take a 28-13 advantage with 9:24 to play in the second quarter.

Coach Scott Yoder's club was able to answer that fourth touchdown, a 1-yard Kyree Koonce run, with a three-play, 80-yard drive that ended with a 17-yard Bauserman to Travis Barton, Jr., TD pass at the 4:57 mark of the second.

Those two switched roles for the Hornets next score, with Barton tossing a 2-yard TD pass to Bauserman on a 4th-and-goal play to open the fourth.

Bauserman and Barton are now the first players in program history to have a touchdown pass and a touchdown reception in the same game.

The Tigers extended their eight-point lead to 11 thanks to a 27-yard Liam Hodge field goal before Bauserman drove Shenandoah 69-yards in 12 plays, ending with that TD pass to Scott, to set up the final two possessions of the game.

All three of the Bauserman interceptions came in the red zone; H-SC picked him off at its own 7 in the first quarter and in the end zone in the second before Jay Brooks had the game-clinching pick at the 15.

Cedrick Delaney, who keyed the first TD drive with an 80-yard run on Shenandoah's first play from scrimmage, finished his day with 150 yards rushing on 21 carries.

Koonce had 220 yards on 32 carries.

Bauserman had three TD passes against the three interceptions. He had a 25-yard strike to Jalen Brisco along with the connections to Scott and Barton.

Michael Messick had 10 tackles to pace the SU defense.

Yeah. I usually mention I am talking about AFTER Bridgewater's remarkable run. It goes without saying they were ranked during those years. Oh well. Not bad for the conference to keep getting different teams in, but we need to keep them in and win a few playoff games.

jknezek

W&L is averaging 442 rushing yards per game. No other school in Division III is averaging over 400 yards per game right now. Mixing in 60+ passing yards per game has them 12th nationally in total offense. Guilford sits at 16th, Shenandoah in 33rd, Catholic 48th, H-SC 70th, E&H 87th, and RMC at 100. Bridgewater at 149 is the ONLY ODAC school not in the top 50% of DIII for offense.

Apparently we don't play much defense in the ODAC this year. E&H at 106th is the ONLY ODAC team in the top 50% of the division for defense, barely. Guilford 126, Shenandoah 133, H-SC 134, RMC T158, W&L 168, Bridgewater 190, Catholic 207.

So this weekend we go strength on strength with the ODAC's top offense versus the conference's top defense (such as it is). Further we have the ODAC top rushing offense versus the ODAC top rushing defense, as E&H only gives up 137 yards per game. Something has to give.

All above stats courtesy of the NCAA stats page.

Interesting W&L has 4 of the top 10 rushers in the ODAC, but the highest on the list is Hollerith at 4th and somewhere around 96th in the country overall, averaging less than 85 yards per game. W&L's Duncan Maxwell is the most potent rusher in the conference by far. Averaging 14.2 yards per carry on 30 carries. Among the other top 10 ODAC rushers, none averages more than 8 yards per carry. In fact, W&L's 4 backs in the top 10 have the first, second and third rushers in yards per carry.

All above stats courtesy of the ODAConline stats page (except Hollerith's national ranking, that came from the NCAA page)

So W&L is potent, but you better account for the whole backfield on every play...

SU is the best odac team I've seen to date. Hard for me to believe their record is not better. Lots of talent on offense, fast at every skill position, big strong qb that can throw it. They will improve going forward. Lots of weapons that really spread the defense.
