Well the H-SC soccer head coach and assistant used to be Macon guys. The former head coach is now the HC at Macon, the former assistant is the HC at Huntingdon.

I'm sure there are others ... I can think of GC's Rhett Bonner at VWC and that hurts ... just me, I guess, but there is no team in the ODAC I want GC to defeat more than the Marlins.

What have I heard?  Not much. So I'll share what I expect. I expect the Tigers to be stronger than the past couple of seasons. I know coach Partin's enthusiasm had to have great effect in the weigh room. There's the potential for a great young defense. Several starters return in key positions.  Offensively, HSC has their QB, RB, and main WR returning. The key will be the offensive line. The Tigers replace 3 and their TE.

My expectations are very high. HSC was just a few plays away from being great last year. They lost 3 ODAC games - should have been OT with WL, Fumble at GC cost HSC a score and huge momentum, and RMC as bad as they played that day they only lost by a TD. 2 of those 3 were road games. I think this fall the Tigers will be ready to eat!

I think they will be good as well. QB has a year under his belt and I think he will be much improved. Defense will keep us in games and give offense time to improve. I see a 6-0 start and see where that takes us. At W&L will be difficult but that game should be difficult as it will probably be for the ODAC championship, or at least the winner will have a huge advantage to winning the ODAC>

Speaking of Rhett Bonner, just saw where he's joined Mike Rhoades' staff at Rice after two seasons at VWC.  Nice.

W&L posted a pic of a camp on campus the other day. Stadium is looking very nice with the new upperclass housing in the background. Hoping most of the exterior construction on the natatorium is done by the time the season starts. I think this is going to be a big draw for the campus to pick up attendance at the games and improve the game day experience.

Hoping to actually make it to campus again this year. Maybe not for a game, but at least for a peak around. My wife's grandfather will be buried with honors at Arlington National Cemetery sometime this fall. It is ridiculous how long all this takes to arrange, but I will be proud to stand as part of his family. A WWII naval corpsman, he served with the Marine Raiders in the Pacific and again with the Corps in Korea. He also worked many years to keep the memory of the Raiders and their fallen alive, authoring a book and being part of a mission that returned remains to Arlington as well as being involved in many Corps charities. I'm too young to have known him in many of these roles, but I still sorely miss his even temper, quick wit, and smile.

We should pass W&L on our way to Arlington, if a date is ever set, so hopefully I'll get to eye up the major changes. I don't hold out hope of seeing a game, that would require an awful lot of luck, but this is the even numbered year where I can trek up to Sewanee to see the Generals play early in the season.

W&L ranks 20th in the D3football.com preseason poll. With a week 1 visit to No. 15 Johns Hopkins there is good opportunity to move up or out. Guilford gets a smattering in the RV category, H-SC gets a single vote. Between JHU, Guilford, C-M-S in the RV category, and H-SC, if all teams play to their D3football.com expected potential W&L is facing one tough schedule this year.

I hope W&L has a fine season, but I am doubtful they'll run the regular season table again.  Guilford has a lot returning, especially on the OL and DL, but QB is the big question mark going into camp.  Another forty game starter (which is every game for Guilford during this span) with the stats Pawlowski put up is hard to find.  Receivers are still strong despite the graduation of Smith, Running game will be potent and Kicking duties are up for grabs with the graduation of Hunt.

Hasa I will be pleasantly surprised if W&L starts 1-0. It's a tall task to win at JHU. They haven't lost at home in the regular season since 2010. W&L hasn't won a road opener since the 60s. I would be over the moon if they win that game, let alone the odds on running the table again.

I would not sell the Generals short. I think they are going to be really good and I think they finish 9-1. If HSC can figure out how to score inside the 10 yard line, Tigers will be pretty good as well. I see the odac having five pretty good teams this year, W&L, GC, HSC, RMC & E&H

jknezek

Personally I think W&L goes 8-2, losing to JHU and either Guilford or Bridgewater. Those are road games. I don't see W&L losing at home this year barring injuries, but Bridgewater has always been a hard place for the Generals and I think Guilford is going to want some revenge. Guilford loses a lot, but the way Coach R has recruited, I think they'll have dangerous enough pieces ready to step in. That first game is going to be interesting and I think it will tell a lot about the Generals this year win or lose. As crappy as the Generals' OOC was last year, this year is as good a test as anyone in the ODAC has faced recently at JHU and home for C-M-S.

I think a true Gennie fan would find a way to be in Baltimore on Sept. 3.  I believe you are right, JHU will be a good test for W&L.   I saw the GC at W&L game last year in person and it will be a tough pill to swallow for some time.  W&L earned the championship last year ... you have to take your hat off to any team that goes 10-0.

I wish I could, but it's just too far and too expensive for me. Especially given the other trips on the schedule this year.
