At one point there had been talks about perhaps the USAC lending the ODAC a football member but I think that was under the previous USAC commissioner. No idea if that is still of interest to to the USAC. But with nine USAC members playing football, it's not exactly ideal for them, either.

The conferences could do that, or could have some sort of scheduling agreement, but 9 vs. 7 makes it more of a challenge.

While we have no beef with returning conference member Carroll (though their football team seems to have a shortage of beef! ;)), I don't think any CCIW posters like having a 9-member conference.  Feel free to 'poach' whichever member you want (though they may demand compensation for airplane expenses)! ;D

Don't forget you get Wash U in the CCIW for football in 2018.

Yeah, I had forgotten that. :-[  I doubt I'm gonna like having just one OOC game.

USAC needs to send one of their Virginia members over, for all sports. Lets get it done AU or Ferrum ?
Just my opinion, but I don't think AU and Ferrum would be asked.  Of the current and soon to be USASAC schools, Maryville (who was once in the ODAC), Berea and, perhaps, Methodist are the only ones I see fitting four criteria:  reasonable geographic proximity, demonstrated academic rigor, national or at least mid-Atlantic profile recognition and a like-minded institutional philosophy.  I know others might disagree, but just me thinking out loud.

One unfortunate fact that we have to keep in mind is that the conference is already overstuffed with members and that, of the "major" sports, football is the only one with too few participating schools. We don't need any new members for all sports, and it's doubtful that any nearby conference would let a member associate in the ODAC in a sport that that conference sponsors.
The dream situation would be for someone with deep pockets (I'm talking 8 or 9 zeroes deep) and a love for ODAC football to offer one of our non-football members a buttload of money to start a program. Since that is about as likely as the Falcons asking me to fill in as their coach on Sunday, we'll have to keep brainstorming or do the best we can the way things are.

SVa is an associate member of NJAC. They would be best bet to be associate member in odac IMO. I'm sure they have a contractual obligation to NJAC for a few more years.

I don't know why a non football program would not want to jump in. I know it's money but it seems to me the investment would be worth it.  There's never going to be a better time to jump in.

Guilford has posted its 2017 football schedule and, in addition to losing Catholic as a conference opponent, we will not play Greensboro after a 20 year run from 1997-2016.  It hasn't been competitive of late with GCQ winning 4 straight and the last three by a collective 198-13.  In addition, we are not playing Averett, but the Quakers are playing at Huntingdon and Methodist from the USASAC.   Here's the full schedule with 4 out of 6 ODAC games at home (no night games except at Davidson):

Sept 2 @ Huntingdon 1 pm
Sept 9 @ Methodist  1 pm
Sept 16 @ Davidson 7 pm
Sept 23 @ Jacksonville 1 pm
Sept 30 Open
Oct 7 HSC 1 pm
Oct 14 @ W&L 1 pm
Oct 21 Shenandoah 1 pm
Oct 28 @ Bridgewater 2 pm
Nov 4 RMC 1 pm
Nov 11 E&H 1 pm
I just revised Guilford's schedule ... it now shows a trip to Jacksonville (DI non-scholarship) on Sept. 23 instead of home versus NNA.  So, this now means 4 away games to start the season and only 4 home games.  I am not happy!

If I were a Guilford guy, I'd be asking for the Soup Bowl back ASAP. Although non-scholarship, Davidson and Jacksonville are still FCS and then you add Huntingdon on top of that. And we're talking over, what? 2,000 miles on the bus the first month of the season? Yikes.

Also, all of the Capital Athletic Conference schools with football are participating in the NJAC. If Southern Virginia wanted to break with the NJAC there could be CAC issues at play as well.

No surprises there since we already knew about Wash U the last week of the season. The other two games are back half home/home and NNA is the obvious hole filler for ODAC teams. What does that leave? RMC?

Yeah, with the open date, no home game until Oct. 7.  Not fair.  Not sure what happened with NNA.

And lucky for you, HSC will be there for your home opener.

We only had 4 home games last year and one of those was played in a down poor (Homecoming vs. GC).
Suks having only 4. Good news is we have 6 this year, one of those vs. Platteville.

It's worth noting that tonight Dan Quinn, the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in a D3 alum. Having played his college career at Salisbury State.

Belichick is a D3 guy. Attended Wesleyan(?) which is part of the NESCAC. So both head coaches in the Super Bowl hail from D3 backgrounds

Keith and I talked about those guys and other D-III connections on the coaching staffs in last week's podcast.
