This is a different HSC team than what I've seen in the past. They control the clock much better than they ever have before. HSC had the ball 38 minutes on Saturday.  Running 33 more plays than Guilford 92 to 59. They have out rushed their last 2 opponents while the passing game has been very effective.  Another huge game in 2 weeks against WL.

Grades for ODAC teams thru 5 games.
SU A+  Only loss to ranked Hobart
HSC A- Looking great in conference but OOC average
WL B Big win out west but big loss against EH
EH B- look like an A until last weekend
RMC B-  lost to CUA but beat the pants off EH
BC C 3-0 OOC but now 0-2 in
GC C- It did not appear to me that playing FBS schools prepared GC for ODAC.

What are your grades?

I think you mean BC. Grades seem about right. Good win for W&L over Wash U on Saturday.

Not overlooking NNA, but I sure look forward to the W&L game to see if the defense can/will redeem themselves after that awful display last year. If HSC can slow W&L down, I think it is safe to say the defense is legitimate. Hold them to 325 yds rushing/21 points, I believe we'll win if we can covert PA's. Hard to believe a college program struggles to kick PA's, but we obviously do. That will bite us at some point this season if it continues.

Very encouraged about our new found running game; obviously OL is getting the job done, which will help keep the defense off the field, just like this past Saturday. I'm encouraged for the balance of the schedule, no layups but I think we should be competitive in all of them. W&L, E&H, SU and RMC back to back to back to back ain't going to be easy, probably the hardest remaining schedule in the ODAC and will be fun to watch.

Obviously things did not go Quakers way on Saturday. Curious to know your thoughts on the Tigers. Good luck this coming Saturday.
Thanks, tfa2.  It didn't, but thanks for your best wishes this weekend.  HSC has a fine defense, but if you look at the box score, the Tigers had the ball 38 minutes to 22 for Guilford.  All your drives felt like 8 to 10 minutes.  The score looks as though Hampden-Sydney had 3 TD's plus PATs, but the Tigers missed two PATs and came up short on a 2-point conversion attempt ... not sure if kicking will be a problem for the Tigers.  With the score 21-18 when HSC fumbled with 4 minutes to go near midfield, I thought Guilford was going to pull it out ... we couldn't move the ball, however, and HSC got a couple of first downs and were able to run out the clock.  I thought the penalty that called back Guilford QB Miller's long first quarter TD run was key.  It's depressing losing to HSC so often ... I hope we can pull another one out sometime soon.  lol

It seems BC can't pindown a starting line up.  Players on both sides of the ball rotating in and out a lot.  Hard for the offense and defense to get in sync.

Welcome to the boards bclift. It's good to have more Eagles folks in the discussions.

The key to the game was third down conversion. HSC was a very good 10/19. While GC was a miserable 1/12.  On HSC's first TD drive they converted a 3rd and 9, a 3rd and 11, and a 3rd and 14. The only 3rd down successfully converted by the Quakers was a 3rd and 5 in the first quarter on a long drive that resulted in a FG.  I know I'm very biased but I thought it was a fun game to watch.

I think W&L is going to continue to be good but not great. Wash U just isn't that good this year and W&L couldn't really put them away. Getting off the field on defense is a major problem. And the running game took a major hit when Walker Brand went down early at E&H for the season. I think W&L will be competitive with everyone in the ODAC, but they look more like last year than the year before. Matt Sgro has more than grown into his running QB role, but if Witt Hawkins stays injured his main passing option to pull players out of the box is missing.

Seems like just a few too many holes, and injuries are creating more. No one can sleep on the Generals, especially with their offense, but I'm having a hard time seeing them win out, kind of a necessity trailing a game already.

Jk;

I know it's only Tuesday, but my picks this week are as follows;'

E&H over RMC  35 to 28
W&L over GC    34 to 24
HSC over NNA   35 to 21 (hopefully 2's and 3's play 2nd half keeping final closer than expected)
SU over BC       45 to 17

Get back with your when you can

What you can be sure of is that what I pick will be wrong this year. Your picks look about right to me. I just changed some numbers.

E&H over RMC  35 to 21
W&L over GC    34 to 24
HSC over NNA   42 to 14
SU over BC       45 to 24

BC and W&L need wins to make the ODAC a little more interesting.

tigerFanAlso2

I think BC will struggle vs. SU based on season performance to date. Taking it a step further, I think every odac team will struggle vs. SU.
With 2 loses, BC may well be out of the race already but who knows what will happen in this league in 2017.

bclift

teams will have to be on all phases of the game to get a win if SU continues to play at this pace!
