received wrong info; HSC plays 4 of 7 on the road.
Home vs. E&H, GC & RMC. On the road vs. W&L, Ferrum, BC & SU.
This makes perfectly good sense.

Good luck with new coaching staff. I'm sure W&L will make the transition as painless as possible and certain there will be many qualified coaches apply. Lexington is no bad place to call home. Might retire in that area one day myself.

I feel the same way. Frankly, if I could find a job in SW Va somewhere or even the Richmond area I'd probably move.

Thank You!! Love the ODAC and Washington and Lee!

Just curious. Who recruited you?  Does he have a shot as HC?  Did you attend a recruiting weekend?  If you did, who ran it?  Does he have a chance as HC?

With much respect did he not call to recruit you after he went to Davidson?  I'm sure he's called many of the guys he was recruiting. After all like I said before there are only so many really good football players with 1350 or higher SATs. And since he recruited you, it had to be before Christmas. Most D3 recruiting takes place AFTER Christmas. When kids realize that Alabama and Ohio State really aren't interested.

Scott Abell was the best thing to ever happen to WL football.  In the 31 seasons before he arrived WL had won 3 ODAC championships. In the 10 seasons since he arrived in Lexington WL has won 4 ODAC's. Regardless how hard the retuning and incoming players work it's my opinion WL is going to miss Abell a lot. I honestly wish you and WL well. But I think WL will slip without the knowledge that Abell brought to the game plan.

I don't disagree with all of this, but there are also some external factors that come into play. For example, W&L's run really started before Coach Abell appeared. Starting in 2005, W&L became much more competitive. It is important to remember what happened in the early 00's at W&L. The facilities facelift started to see results. In terms of football, it started with locker rooms, then with the replacement of the truly pathetic weight and fitness center, and then with the plans to rebuild Wilson Field. All this was finished, started, or announced by 2004. The locker rooms in the late 90s, the new student center with fitness facilities opened in '01, and Wilson Field's renovation finished in 2006.

Increased scholarship money, and automatic full tuition awards to families making under a certain amount, also started around the early 2000s. All these things contributed to the start of the football run that has culminated, or at least reached a high point, under Coach Abell. But... the foundation was laid before he arrived and even the offense was already transformed to an option style before he arrived.

Coach Abell then took it to a new level, and I will forever be grateful for that, but he was not the only driving force or even the first driving force for W&L's transformation from middling conference team to regular contender and champion.  I think W&L will be fine and continue on the current trend of being a competitor because the school has created the environment to make that possible. The Generals will need a quality head coach, but it's hard to believe they won't find one. They have the money and AD Hathorn has a solid track record of hiring coaches as W&L is competitive to dominant in almost every sport in the ODAC.

Holy cow. E&H to Rochester is a long ride. But I guess since the Liberty League and the ODAC are kind of needing the extra game... Playing Ferrum week 1 is messing with that schedule quite a bit since it moves an OOC to either week 4 or 5. Not too many leagues can accommodate that. The placement of Apprentice is interesting too. E&H must have been scrabbling a bit to put this one together in such an odd manor. Although I'm betting Apprentice is still in fairly high demand by ODAC schools this year.

Warrior71

Hey Scots13, You might be interested in Maryville's Sept 15 game. I heard that you guys are going to Lexington to play W&L.

jknezek

Definitely possible. W&L opens at Dickinson and at Sewanee. That week is open and likely W&L wants a home game.

Scots13

Now that's something I can get excited about, for historical reasons I've noted in the past! (Warrior71, Maryville was founded by Isaac Anderson who was a W&L man before it was W&L.)

If true, the overall series tie will be broken which stands at 7-7-0. I'll definitely be in attendance.

Also, if true, Maryville would open at Berry (11-1 in '17), home vs. Centre (9-1), and W&L (8-3).  We'll learn fast what Maryville has to offer this fall.

Unlikely W&L would have an immediate return game. 2019 ODAC teams will only have 2 OOC games. W&L has a home and home with Dickinson starting this year. Sewanee is a 50+ year tradition with only a year or two missing.

I wonder how many of those 2 OOC spots Apprentice will take up in 2019?

I'm guessing not many. It shouldn't be that hard to get 2 DIII OOC games.

I was being a little sarcastic. My apologies...sarcasm doesn't read well with the smiley faces.

Is the Guilford/Huntingdon series 4 games, or just home and home?
