A mildly hard to find roster for W&L lists 25 first years, 18 sophomores, 20 juniors, and 17 seniors. I just want to point this out because there is something truly incredible here as far as most of DIII goes. Last year in camp, there were 19 first years. 18 of them are back as sophomores, 95%. Two years ago, there were 25 first years, 20 are still playing, 80%. Three years ago, there were 23 first years, 17 are on the field again, 74%.

W&L's roster is right around 80 young men. A few shorter than I wish, but the retention speaks to Coach Abell doing things the right way with his recruiting. Bringing in the young men he needs who are devoted to the program. I also hope the continued high retention indicates that the transition to Coach LeRose will be a smooth one, with the returning team excited and committed to play under him and the recruiting proceeding smoothly.

A few caveats, most importantly this roster is not officially posted, and I'm assuming there will be some changes. 2 of the FYs do not have stats listed while the rest do. The roster may shrink by at least those 2.

11 of the FYs are from Virginia. 2 from CT, GA, and NC. 1 each from TX, OH, OK, CO, NJ, SC, and MD. By position, 3 DBs, 4 DL, 1 LB, 4 OL, 3 QBs, 5 RBs, 1 TE, 2 WRs, and 2 unlisted.

Under the suspicious measurements column, 3 of the FY OLs list at 250 exactly, one at 300 lbs. Both WRs and the TE go from 6-0 to 6-2. I always appreciate the creativity in college roster measurables!

I'm excited that the season is creeping closer and wish all these young men, and all of them across the ODAC, a safe summer camp and an injury free season.

I paid $15. Not much to say either. But people should buy it and support the guys and the site. It's well put together, and there is nowhere else you are going to get legit D3 info.

I wish I didn't read it now; want to go outside and puke; HSC picked 131/6th in the ODAC with a record of 2-5. A Marty Favret team has never won just two ODAC games.
There is absolutely no way this is Marty's worse team, no way. Hopefully this pick by the experts will find its way into the HSC locker room and be used for motivational purposes.

Can't wait to get started with the season.

Another point of confusion; preseason top 25 poll several weeks back had W&L receiving votes/Kickoff has them at #51.
No more comments, I promise.

Yeah. I try not to discuss what is in Kickoff in the forum for at least a week or two so that people will buy it and help support the site.

This shouldn't be confusing.  The top 25 poll only ranks 1-25.  26-250 is a totally separate exercise.

I will not discuss HSC.

Question 1.How do you pick SU QB to be POY (not a preseason All-American) but in the same breath have WL running back as preseason All-American but NOT POY?

Question 2. How do you discuss WL football this season without mentioning they have a new coach?  I mean the guy that left was fairly dominant in the ODAC the last 10 years.

Question 3.  What do you see at GC to make anyone think 4 ODAC wins is possible?  They lose their QB and more players in their 2 deep than ANY ODAC team.

I remember this conversation. :)

On question 1, we simply have a difference of opinion between the writer of the ODAC preview and the people who picked last year's postseason/this year's preseason team. And other questions are for the writer, which I was not.

For also2, if that's what HSC needs to get them up for the season, that's unfortunate. Would think just getting a chance to put the pads back on would be sufficient motivation. :)

As a former editor of various things, I'm not sure I would have let a preview of W&L, or any other team, slip through without mentioning something really important, such as a new head coach following a head coach with the team's highest ever winning percentage. It's what I would have considered materially important. In fact, it's probably important enough to be the lead. The fact that the new coach is an alum, never coached anywhere but W&L, and therefore never been a head coach before, is probably something else I would have considered at least interesting enough to include. I know there is a lot to write and edit in a short time, but some things are pretty important to a "season preview."
