After a 4 hour delay due to lightning strikes and inclement weather, the Huntingdon at Guilford game has been declared a No Contest with HC leading 58-48 with 13:00 to go.  I assume this means some great offensive performances will be wiped out, including 4 TDs by De'Eric Bell.

According to GC Twitter- Saturday's Guilford-Huntingdon football game has been declared a no contest. Per NCAA regulations all statistics from today's contest are voided.

We are going to have to get a whole lot better in a hurry or this will be a long season. Too much talent for this kind of offensive performance.
Coach L has no confidence, he is competing against the past instead of competing against todays opponent.  Have a plan and run it.  If it was a bad plan learn and move on.  He is letting the moment beat him.

This is a remarkable statement and what I've basically been saying since he was hired. I have no doubt he's a fine coach. I have no doubt he'll be a very good head coach. But when he was hired it was asking a whole lot for him or anyone to replace Abell. I assume WL has a HOF.  Coach Abell will be in it. He was the best coach WL ever had and he was replaced with a position coach.  As it was said - good to learn from a win and not a loss. D3Football might have thought it was not worth mentioning in their pre-season preview but Abell leaving IS the story of WL football this fall.  Can LeRose handle calling a game?  Can he make necessary adjustments?  Can he get the players to buy in?  Can he do all the little things required to make a team great?  Time will tell. It's not that I don't have faith that he can. But seldom does a coach replace a legend and not see a dip.

HSC game postponed til tomorrow at noon.

Davidson is winning 27 -0 at half with nearly 300 yards rushing.

Hasa it sucks for Bell to have those stats wiped out. But I bet the GC DC is elated. 58 points allowed in 47 minutes- ouch.

Yeah, 58 points in 47 minutes is worrisome.  At 20-0, the first quarter was not a good start, but we did begin to score.  I have never seen a No Contest and I was pretty sure the stats would be vacated.  It wasn't a loss, but it does feel a lot like the proverbial "kissing your sister."

Davidson (DI no scholarships) is playing a DIII school. Shrug. I hope Abell wins enough there to keep him out of the ODAC for the next 10 years, I'm not confident that will happen.

People forget that Abell was a high school coach and never played college football when he was hired by W&L as the OC.   He was a successful recruiter because he was idolized by VA high school coaches for his mythical national rankings at Amherst.  I'm not sure the recruiting success will follow him to NC.

There was a lack of energy on the offensive side of the ball, I'm assuming if number 6 had been dressed that would have been different.  Biggest difference last year was the energy on the sidelines....

Does the W&L football program draw that much from Virginia? With such a national student body, that didn't occur to me.

It definitely grew more heavily weighted to Virginia during the Abell years. More importantly, a significant number of the standout players, like Heinsohn and Breece,  were VA kids. Of course Heinsohn was a W&L legacy, so there was that as well.

Guilford had them just where wanted them, looked a lot like the EH game last year. Back end of Def has to find some players. I was impressed with the QB and new WR's. My son had told me that the offensive wouldn't drop off any and he thinks it will continue to improve.

Welcome to the ODAC forum, gridironsouthernboy ... nice to have another Quaker fan on board.  Good to hear your son's comments ... Defense has room to grow for sure.  Great handle, but I may have to shorten it to gridboy or something similar.  lol  Yeah, the comeback was reminiscent of both the 2013 and 2017 E&H games ... not sure if you saw 2013, but the Quakers were down 31-0 with 21 minutes to go and stormed back for a 35-31 win with the winning TD coming at 42 seconds.  Stop by the white Quaker Club tent next week and say hello ... I'm easy to find.

Birddawg79

Happy for the Generals leaving DC with a win. They found a way.  Defense played well for the 1st game.
My notes from the game:
DC was fired up from the get go, we were not.
DC had a game plan, we did too but when that wasn't working there was no adjustment.
The Generals were bigger, stronger and faster than DC.  That's why we won.
We need to improve on our perimeter blocking, backs catching the pitch, receivers finishing their routes and play calling (adjustments). All these things are fixable.

Now let's go get ready for Sewanee.

GO GENERALS!

The Tigers defense can't stop Averett. This could get ugly real quick.

hasanova....... my son is out for the year with a knee injury. He is a 2nd year o-lineman. He was thinking he would get some real playing time this year. He was on the sideline with the knee brace yesterday. Will have surgery on Wed of this week, then 6 months of rehab. I will only make about half the games this year since he is not playing.

jknezek

What a whooping Averett is putting on HSC. Another ODAC team that is going to need to improve in a hurry if they are going to have an impact this year. Will be interesting to get a read on RMC's defense next week. Averett is running all over HSC.

gridboy, sorry to hear of your son's injury ... a tough time for any player.  I hope his surgery and rehab will go well.  When you are there, please stop by and say hello.
