How many of those rushes in wins are because they're trying to run out the clock, though? I think you may have a chicken-and-egg scenario.

Last year?  1 - HSC knelt down the last 3 plays against Apprentice and finished with 30 rushing attempts.
Hampden Sydney College
ODAC Champions 77, 82, 83, 87, 07, 09, 11, 13, 14
NCAA Playoffs - 77, 07, 09, 10, 11, 13, 14
The "Game" 60 wins and counting...

What I'm getting at is that in some cases, it's not that "Team X wins because it runs the ball more" -- rather, it's "Team X runs the ball more because it's winning."

What Pat is saying is there are certain scenarios where say H-SC has a lead in the 4th quarter and they begin to just salt the game away with runs instead of necessarily kneel downs.  An interesting question or stat to look at would be the Tigers' first half carries compared to second half in games.

I think TigerFan's point is that HSC has more success with a balanced attack; prevents defense from dropping 8 guys into coverage.
Hard to score when the opposition knows the ball will be in the air majority of plays; 27 points (13.5) points per game is pretty damn lousy.

Weird season so far; calendar into the last week in September with only 2 games played. Almost like we are waiting for the season to start all over again.

I'm concerned about the E&H game. I see it as a must win. Starting 0-3/0-1 will be very hard to recover from especially with 2 of the losses coming on your home field.

BIG, BIG, BIG game for the Tigers on Saturday.

Well... it's nice to have some football back. W&L going for only their third 3-0 start since '55 according the SID. Getting past RMC is huge. Their defense has been the most consistent challenge to W&L's offense in the ODAC for years. With almost 3 weeks of prep time, I expect W&L to have to grind this out and really put a stopper on the Jackets offense if they want to win. Hopefully the rust will fall off quickly. It's been a long time between games.

Home team wins in your game. Best 2 defenses in the ODAC, going to be physical, turnovers critical, 3 down conversion critical; sound like a game W&L will win.
Good luck, do not let RMC win the ODAC; I fear W&L is the only team that can stop that from happening.

I actually think Shenandoah has a better chance of beating RMC. RMC's pass defense is their weakness, not their run defense. I hope you are right, but it's a tough spot for W&L. Winning off the bye week, or the first game of the season, where teams get the extra option practice time, is always tough.

2017 -- JHU won opener, E&H won after the bye
2016 -- JHU won opener
2015 -- undefeated
2014 -- Averett won opener, Guilford won after the bye
2013 -- Centre got us after their bye
2012 -- F&M won opener
2011 -- Centre got us after their bye
2010 -- F&M won opener, Averett got us after their bye

Heck, Dickinson almost got us this year in the opener. To be fair, they choked the Muhles pretty good also, though JHU killed them. I'm apprehensive. If the game was at RMC I'd have W&L as a 7 point dog. At home, I'm calling it a toss up.

I hope you're right. And I don't see why the Tigers wouldn't have a chance. The Tigers may be 0-2, but I think they played two of the three toughest DIII OOC teams in the conference. Averet and CNU aren't joke teams, so HSC should be well tested. E&H is going to score in bunches, but I don't think the defense will be all that tough. I see this one as a track meet. I picked E&H, not sure why other than picking the Wasps last season singlehandedly destroyed my pick'ems and I learn slow.
