^^^ Perhaps the Neptune Bowl will be an opportunity for Jacket players who didn't see much action this season to spend a lot of time on the field.

Here is their schedule: https://www.gobuilders.com/sports/fball/2019-20/schedule

This coming Saturday at SVU will be their only game against an ODAC team. Should be a good barometer for the bowl game.

jknezek

So they beat 2 of the worst teams in D3 and lost to an ok team. The only variable in the Neptune game is whether the ODAC players can be convinced to care even a little bit.

tigerFanAlso2

like I said, shame on the odac for inflicting this pain on RMC. I totally hope they refuse to go. ODAC should be forced to send last place team and we all know who that is .... is ODAC paying travel expenses ?

tigerFanAlso2

no talk about The Game ? Not shocking .... rivals only by tradition for the time being .... hope to give you guys a run for your money at some point in the foreseeable future, until then, enjoy your domination. Tigers will be back at some point, I assume.

RMC can't even get out of being the preferred opponent for the Neptune Bowl by losing The Game. Not much else to say. H-SC is... not good this year. RMC is going to either be disappointed and play flat, or angry and play hard. Either way, I don't think H-SC can hang with them.

I still hold out that RMC will refuse to go to Va. Beach ....... everything else you stated I'm in 100% agreement ...... if HSC can keep it to a 21pt. I'll be surprised. Hoping the margin does not get into the 50 point range.

Good luck to your Generals.

It doesn't seem to me like Randolph-Macon would want to end its season in that game, unless it wants to give its young players some work. Perhaps Emory & Henry would be more likely to go, although that six-hour drive isn't fun.

I've been a proponent of these bowl games and I think in some cases they've made sense and been interest match ups. This is just such a stinker in terms of opponent that I just can't imagine it's going to last. Not sure how anyone thought a game against The Builders was going to be at all attractive for any ODAC team.

It's trip to the beach!  That's an effort at being facetious.

this thing stinks so bad it is almost depressing to think about .... ODAC get rid of this "bowl" game before the first one is ever played, PLEASE

I would try and find the positives instead of dwelling on the negatives if possible with the Neptune Bowl.  I would also try and negotiate some demands.

1. Already stated but a free trip to the beach see if the ODAC will put the team up in a hotel for the night (after the game of course to take in the night life with some more "relaxed" team curfews)
2. It looks to be a little more than a 2 hour drive from Ashland and the kick is at 2:00 PM.  After the game treat the SRs to a decent dinner in Virginia Beach (on the ODACs dime)
3. Give increased or all playing time to returning players or position groups that will be question marks for 2020
4. If there are current players who want to get into coaching after graduation give them a taste this week and let them assist with game planning and if they choose coaching in the game/practice
5. Use this to their advantage from a recruiting standpoint.  The Friday before that game is the second round of the HS playoffs and I am sure there will be some teams in the VA Beach area involved.  Send coaches to those games and let the local high schools know to go to the Neptune Bowl the following day.  If the NCAA allows it have a recruiting function prior to the kickoff with a meet and greet with coaches and SR players.

In the future this may be something the conference does not participate in but it looks like they will have to this season.  If you cannot control the invite at least you can control your attitude and what you/RMC want to get from the game.

I get that you are trying to be positive and I appreciate that but why would you ask a student athlete, who is not being paid to play, to but his body at risk for absolutely no meaningful purpose ? why would a student athlete give up this much time away from campus when his time can be better used towards the academic workloads students face this time of year ? How much fun will come from traveling 2 hrs. to play a nobody team in front of basically nobody ?

Time to study, party, and let your body heal. I like the fact that you are trying to make the best out of a bad situation, cup half full, etc. type of thing but I'm not buying into. Last time I'm posting on this topic. I hope it works out better than I think it will.

Do you think ODAC money grows on trees?

Wild Horse Rider

Sorry Scott I wasn't very clear.  I said they should ask for those things and anything else they would like.  I would not expect that the ODAC would provide all or any of the financial requests but you will never know if you don't ask.  I would also think that when the conference and I assume the head coaches/ADs of all of the ODAC schools agreed to participate in the game those details were already arranged.  It works out that RMC is a day trip away but if E&H (6 hour trip) or Guilford/Shenandoah (4+ hour trip) were selected I would think those would be overnight trips.  Per the Virginia Beach Neptune Bowls Facebook page there are 4 corporate sponsors including two hotel chains.  There are individual tickets for sale online for $15 and tailgate packages for $150-$200.  Someone expects to make money on this game which I would believe the ODAC or the invited school hope to be a part of as well.
