I understand that people don't really appreciate Newport News Apprentice and the ODAC's agreement with them for the bowl game. However, it's an opportunity for the players to bond one last time. I sense some entitlement and lack of respect for Newport News, who on many occasions help many conferences fill out schedules to help stay within budget.

Yeah. There is definitely a lack of respect for NNA which is too bad as those young men work hard and only have 2 years to DIII's 4 years. That being said, a bowl game is supposed to be a reward. It's hard to see this as a reward for the ODAC runner up. In the other end of season Bowl Games there is at least a conference supremacy storyline. This game is a no win. The ODAC school should win. If they don't, it's an embarrassing upset. If they do, blah, they should have. There is no reward to banging up your body one more time other than the "I got to put on the pads one last time." Maybe that's enough, but I suspect it isn't. Especially if you don't have glorious weather and at least a decent crowd. Both of which are very iffy.

sense of entitlement, how so ?

Entitlement may have been used in place of a better word. However, as JK mentioned, I understand that by playing NNA it has no significant reward for the conference/team outside of playing that last game. Since I was a former player and have played in my share of Bowl games in the ECACs as both an underdog and as a team who was on the bubble of making a playoff run, I understand that depending on who you play can affect a team morale heading into the game. However, for me personally at the end of the day, I never regretted playing the game, maybe the team, but the game itself, especially if it was away was just one more time to put on helmet and pads, which IMHO 20 years later is better than what one would initially think.

no reward .... no sense in putting body at risk .... if you think that is putting NNA down, sorry, it is not in my humble opinion. Enjoy game day on Saturday. Hope your team(s) play well.

My two cents on the Neptune Bowl...

I understand the sentiment that has been shared by fans on this board, especially from RMC's perspective. Finishing second in the conference, having just come off the big game where you were a touchdown (+ 2-pt conversion or OT) away from being champions and heading to the NCAA playoffs — it stings. As a Bridgewater fan, we have had a couple of those the past 14 years.

What I wonder is, how many former athletes look back and wish "man, if I could just suit up one more time!"? Most Division III football players get what, 20-30 games in their career? 30-40 if they are studs? I would think any opportunity (no matter how disappointed a team or player is) to play one more time would be appreciated. And there is always a risk of injury — first game of the year, biggest game of the year, or the Neptune Bowl.

I like what was proposed by someone already — play your starters for a quarter or a half. Then play your younger players the rest of the game. I'm sure coaches like the opportunity for seeing what you have (in game situations) for next year.

Now that is unnecessarily triggered. Give this person a trophy. We can label it the overblown reaction of the season! It's not even a participation award. This one is full out earned!

I just can't honestly say I've missed many of the Bridgewater people. Oh well. Maybe after this season they will slink away, again, for another 15 years.

Thank goodness the season is over! It will be interesting to see if any changes come in the next few weeks. Good luck to BC in the playoffs!

I watched the first three quarters of The Game. It was really interesting to hear former R-MC coach Jim Blackburn doing commentary. He had such great insights and spelled out in football coach language what was going on with each play. Maybe he should consider joinjng the broadcast crew more often.
