About the best draw you could imagine for R-MC. Some tough teams in that bracket, as there should be for playoffs, but it's a winnable bracket very deep. Good luck YellowJackets!

Agreed. I immediately thought that RMC has a shot at the semifinals. Not taking anything away from any of the teams in the bracket, and not taking anything for granted. But at least they weren't put in a bracket with North Central, Mount Union, or one of the WIAC teams.

For me, CNU is the logical 1st round opponent. There should be a very good crowd for that game. (Do I remember correctly that CNU travels relatively nicely for a D3 school?)

CNU is only about an hour- 90 minutes away from the COTU and it's a public school so they have lots of fans and also a base around the Richmond area as well. I would expect a crowd similar to the HSC game this past weekend. I also told my tailgate buddies at RMC Saturday I would expect our matchup to be CNU and it came true. It's the logical pick. I think we have a pretty good draw but we have to play one game at a time. Our Achilles heel is pass defense.... If we can up our game in that department we could go far. Our offense is impressive and not single dimensional and our run defense is stout.Lots of football to be played ! Should be fun!
"We're completely surrounded-Excellent!...Now we can attack in any direction!'....Chesty Puller, USMC

A big crowd should make for a great playoff experience. Happy for you and for CNU!

We do indeed travel well for a D3 school. I remember one year, we had a regular season game at HSC and we sent 3 busloads of students plus all of us who drove. I'm not sure how they handle tickets for visitors at RMC (or what NCAA rules stipulate). I imagine most of what is allotted to CNU will be used. My wife keeps suggesting we go and I'm the alum!! I need to decide by tomorrow if I want tickets.

Glad RMC won. More of a squeaker than I felt it should have been.

As for the Chesapeake Bowls, the ODAC teams laid an egg. W&L won everywhere but on the scoreboard, as an inability to convert decent drives to points did them in. A pair of fumbles gifted Lycoming short fields for 10 of their 20 points.

Wilkes rolled over Bridgewater. I don't know if the ODAC teams didn't take the games as seriously or if the Landmark teams, neither of which had great seasons, are just showing the ODAC still has a ways to go.

Either way, not a great look for the ODAC.

Survive and advance.  Some things to clean up.  Hopefully a home game next week.

The hoped for home game is happening.

I think there might have been some lessons learned from the game against CNU. That second possession of the game for RMC -- the first down unsuccessful flea flicker, followed by two incomplete passes -- might not have been the best idea. I get that all offensive possessions are situational, and the hope was to strike quickly on first down, followed by the need to gain yardage for another first down on the next two plays. Hindsight is always 20-20. The main tenet of the RMC offense has generally been ball control. I know that with Campanale at QB and three or four good receivers, that changes the dynamic of the offense. Glad I'm not the coach in real time and I get to sit at a computer and critique after the fact.

Good luck to the Jackets on Saturday.

Key to the Ithaca game will be stopping their running game.  Their offense line is massive, so the RMC defense will have its hands fun.  I think RMC will get their points, so we may see a game similar to last year's second round game where we see a lot of points.

I must say, I was very surprised at how this game went. The Jackets succeeded in stopping Ithaca's running game and pretty much their whole offense. It was RMC's running game that was unstoppable. Great win. Good luck on December 2nd vs John's Hopkins.

Glad to see that my scouting report was used by the Jackets!  ;D

Was reading Patricia Cornwell's second book, "Body of Evidence" on Saturday & stopped on page 267 for the night. On page 266, it reads, "We passed sleepy storefronts - a barbershop, a stationary store, a bank - then picked up speed as we curved around the campus of Randolph-Macon College with it's Georgian buildings and its frosted athletic field peopled at this early moonlit hour by a row of varicolored football sleds." Quite the timing with the playoffs going & Randolph-Macon still alive! Got a kick out of it!

I live on the border of Iowa where Iowa, Nebraska, & South Dakota meet & went to St John's in Collegeville, MN. Enjoyed the reference! Best of luck on your side of the bracket! Unfortunately my Johnnies got the shaft despite having the 2nd strongest SOS in the country & more wins against RROs. Should've been a Pool C bid. Guess I'll have to wait until next fall!

Yes if you take the Northeast Regional out of Richmond on Amtrak you will go right though the heart of our campus and right by the tailgate area/ Football Stadium! It is quite picturesque! Patricia Cornwell is a native Virginian( Richmond area also, I think) so she knows the COTU well.(COTU stands for CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE, as we call Ashland, Va)

Really enjoyed Keith's interview of Coach Arruza on the D3podcast.  But, wasn't Keith the only Quick Hits picker to select Ithaca over RMC?
