I sense a bit of sarcasm Pat....Huggy Bear!  I think that was directed toward you.

Pat Cumming's

Mid-Atlantic Region Top 5
1. Delaware Valley
2. Hampden-Sydney
3. Christopher Newport
4. Moravian
5. Franklin and Marshall

Way to go Pat two of the teams are going to start out 0-1 (CNU, Morovian) and one of them is going to lose in week two (F&M)!! But I'll deal with it.

Well, Cummings is pretty safe then with his Top 5, even if you're right about CNU and Moravian losing week one, and F&M losing week two:

-If CNU loses to Rowan, then they lost to an out of region opponent who is ranked #7 in the nation ... which means he won't have to move CNU down at all (unless they get blown out).

-If Del Val beats Moravian, then his #1 team defeated his #4 team ... that's "suppose" to happen (again, unless Moravian gets blown out).

-Lastly, F&M plays no one in week two, so it's going to be hard for them to lose!  :D (I know, you meant week three (second game for them) against Hobart).

Personally, I have to give Pat Cu. two thumbs up for his top 5 ... like he said, it's his subjective opinion ... we all have one, and if we were Mid-Atlantic columnist, we'd post ours (and others would disagree).

Regarding him picking H-SC over BC ... lets be reminded that the last two times we've traveled to Fulton Field, we've won by a combined nine points ... and if you count last year's nine-point win, then we're talking a touchdown here, a defensive stop there, and we (BC) wouldn't be the top dog of the ODAC.

Kid- that's why BC is the top dog, because when we're in a close game we know how to win.   HSC has never, ever done that....against anybody good.  So again, how can you really objectively pick them to beat us?  It's like the guys from Athlon and Street and Smiths who would pick St. John's over Mt. Union #1 every year just so if it did happen, they could say they "called it".  I don't see where playing those odds is sound journalism.  He mentions our "weaker" secondary even though we return 3 of 4 starters inc. one All-American.  Where's the mention of HSC losing 8 of 11 starters off a defense that wasn't very good to begin with?  (Now granted, our secondary has not been our strength in recent years but my point is I don't know where he's coming from picking a team that has never proven anything to beat us.)

Just because they will hang 60 on Sewanee and Guilford won't mean squat come October.   8)

Hey did you guys know the #4 ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic dropped their last four games of the season in '04.  OK, OK....like Cummings said, I'll deal with it.  I guess if all you have to go by is what you saw at Shen U. last year, respect would be hard to come by. I would, however invite you Mr. Cummings to stop by Winchester again this year.  Stone Station will be open and ready to feed.

Pat Coleman

I did know that. It was in the column.  :)

Hmm, ok -- you're the one whose big revelation was Moravian losing its last four games, something which Pat already mentioned in his column.

So I call you on it, and I'M the obvious one? Think not.

Pat Cummings is entitled to his opinion.   I wouldn't be surprised if he had the ODAC board in mind when he wrote "the above rankings are my subjective opinion. Deal with it. "

Here's another opinion, the collective voice of the d3football.com Top 25 voters... and yes, it's a little more ODAC friendly:

Mid Atlantic Region Top 5
1) Delaware Valley (#12)
2) Bridgewater (#14)
3) Christopher Newport (#16)
4) Hampden-Sydney (#26)
5) Albright (#28)

8 ) Franklin & Marshall (#39)
11) Moravian (#44)

Quite a tennis match here.
Lob---> volley ---> Backhand ----> SMASH ----> Dropshot ;D What will be the next play, LOL!

On a different note,
My "Franchise" term placed on Jeff Highfill is even more concrete based on today's DNR article. Sounds as though the kid is a team player very representative of a quality DIII athelete. If you read post patterns Jeff Highfill: ROCK ON! We know you will be ready when called upon.

And Jacob,
Make sure to transfer your 5th year skills to the field. Pat Cu. knows I love ribbing him and inexperience at QB was a reason for picking HSC this year. (I know he meant game experience so don't go calling me out on it, ha,ha.)

cOOrs:  You sound/read like a caveman.  "Too much talk, this the year."  UUGGGG.  You must have or are still attending HSC......I hope you can graduate within the next 4-5 years.  Good Luck with English class.

cOOrs-  every year has been "the year" over the past 4 or 5. but i havent seen it happen yet.  Though one day (say 10 yrs. from now  :))it might happen, there is no reason to believe that this is the year the Tigers will finally get the monkey off their back and win an important game.  The only thing you have going for you this yera is that you could still make it in the playoffs for a change with your 9-1 record.  Would be kind of fun to see how that would work out for you guys against plus competition such as W&J.

As for the QB situation at BC, both guys seem to be quality people on the field as well as off it.  The golden thing is that the QB doesnt have to play amazing (case in point Wakefield in the first 3 or 4 games last season) for BC to win games.  Jake will have enough players around him where he can get the juices flowing and hit stride against Sydney to open conference play (if he needs that long of course) and nothing should be hurt.  We dont live and die off of how our QB plays ( not saying that it isnt important, especially come conference) and that is going to be the same this season

sportswriter,
It just seems like we're not in the same boat as HSC is in with QB's which may give us an edge somewhere down the long road of ODAC Championship #6.  If one should go down we have a solid back up... I don't know if HSC can say the same thing.  Ricca is a hell of a QB  and I can't see HSC going far without him. (although they did OK last year without Ricca)  I'll take 2 solid QB's any day, and who knows if either of the guys has a game like Sunshine did against Shen.  then at least we have someone solid to step in this year!

Looks like Jermaine made it through today's cuts! :)
