Catholic lost 12 - 0

Nice to see Catholic in a game for the first time in over a  year. I think its going on something like 6 years straight without winning their first game. I don't know how good Shenandoah is but CUA belonged on the same field as them and had plenty of chances to score but penalties, drops, and sacks plagued the O all game especially whenever momentum got going in their favor.

In the first quarter the frosh Ricca threw a bomb to Bublavi after escaping some pressure which he caught and was able to get two feet down in the end zone. The only problem was Ricca was over the line of scrimmage when he let it go.

Key play of the game was in the second quarter when the cards went for it on 4th and 3 from their own 30 something(a call I agreed with because the D was playing pretty well and most d3 kickers miss fg's more than they make them) with something like 3 minutes left in the half.  They called a roll out, the quarterback could have run for it but had a man wide open who dropped it. Shenandoah didnt get a first down but the kicker split the uprights for a field goal.

They had another good drive going in the third quarter but a high pass combined with a drop ended up being an interception. Then on 3rd and 5 or so from their mid fieldish area a play fake drew a big bite out of the safety and they had a kid standing at the goal line waiting for the ball which I think he could have fair caught.

Shenandoah's kicking game was outstanding with several punts being downed inside the 10 yard line. I don't know if they were kicking away from Bublavi, but every punt/kickoff was a squibber or otherwise unfieldable. The one time they let the punter put his foot into it I think he kicked 60 or 70 yards over Bublavi's head and it lands out of bounds inside the 10, which resulted in a safety on about the 33rd qb sack. I think Catholic will be working very hard on having the qb's not hold the ball so long. It is good to see that they stay in the pocket and give the receivers every chance to get open.

Catholic drove with less than two minutes left in the 4th quarter for what looked like a touchdown but was called an incomplete pass by the ref. I always thought if you catch the ball and run two steps with it in the end zone that meant a touchdown. But the Shenandoah kid should get alot of credit for sticking with the play, stripping the ball and causing the refs error.

The defense played surprising well. Shenandoah didn't pass very much so I can't say how good the Pass D is. The run D was solid. Shenandoah had some gashes and nice runs but I can't remember them driving inside of Catholic's 30. The only time they were there was the blown coverage and after the failed 4th down conversion.

After an 0-10 season losing to a decent team(ranked top 25 somewhere I think, don't quote me on that) that only scored 2 points that weren't given to them is encouraging to me now that I am relegated to fan status only. I hope that the players are not encouraged by this game though.

Some of the things I reported may be a little off. I didn't take game notes but my memory is usually pretty sharp. It might however not be as sharp today because for some reason I am furious about losing that game.

Overall, Catholic has fielded a pretty athletic team. I could be wrong but Shenandoah looked like one of the faster teams and Catholic wasn't outmatched in that aspect. They will be in a lot of games but are going to have to work hard at not killing themselves. It looks like it could be back to the way things were when these frosh are juniors and seniors.

Tough loss Bridgewater fans,I'm sure your guys will bounce back!! Remember what I said in one of my earlier posts. It's the quote from Coach Lombardia, "Any given team can win on Sunday(in this case Saturday)". Let's hope E&H can do the ODAC proud tonight against Marietta and "Git eh done". Peace---- I am the E&H Dad

Washington sure looked like the best player in the ODAC in the first half though.
The second half.... what happened?

Rugby Guy

Well, that was a crappy ending.  It sucks to watch your team snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.  I'm guessing I know at least one kicker who WON'T be making the all ODAC squad.  :P  All in all though (minus four interceptions and a slew of missed kicks) the team didn't look too bad...with the exception of the defensive line.  It looked to me like they got pushed around a bit, and that's never a good thing.

Skoal, Llama, Paw, Hug, Kid, Gal and the rest...had a great time last night, and I look forward to it again.  I need to redeem myself after that poker debacle.  At this point, Llama, I'm not sure if I'll be joining you at Shenandoah next week, but I'm certainly hoping to.

At the half, Marietta 9,E&h 7. E&H offense not playing like they were last year. They had a nice drive with 2 minutes to go in the half. they ran the ball most of 1&2 qrts. Our defense looked good until Marietta put in new QB in 2nd qrt. Woods throw nice TD pass.  WE need to stick to what we know best----- PASS,PASS, PASS!!!! This going to be a tough go for the WASPS but we can win it if we execute! PEACE--- I am the E&H Dad

Congratulations to McDaniel. They could have folded but they played awesome D in the 2nd half. I had to pinch myself at the half when BC had 33 on the board but the INT return to the BC 15(when I think BC was up 33-14) gave the Green Terror new life.
Without Matthews and Young the BC RB depth was no longer a factor when Washington bruised his knee. He played some of the 2nd half but even Clark said he was not 100% out there. When you turn it over 4 times and the other team does not turn it over at all you do not win many games.
BC has to turn its attention to Shenandoah who beat Catholic 12-0 today. The Eagles can turn this season around they just need to improve the kicking game and cut down on turnovers.
BC fans, keep your heads up. The Eagles faced this situation last year and won the conference. Lets hope they can rebound again.

A tough day for BC football gets tougher with the Bucs release of Jermaine Taylor. I don't know the chances of him making the practice squad or signing with another team but it is an accomplishment for an ODAC player to make it this far and BC fans are proud of Jermaine.

Marietta25,E&H7---- Not one of the Wasp's better openers.E&H has a lot of work to do this next week in getting ready for Ferrum. If their offense, defense, and special teams don't drastically improve its going to be a long season for E&H. The Wasp's had"no want to"tonight. I hate to be in these guy's shoe's next week. I don't think Coach Monte is going to be one happy camper!  PEACE---I am the E&H Dad   P.S. Not to good of the showing for the ODAC today!! It's going to be anybody's, game from now on in the ODAC.

My Money is still on B.C.  Looked real good!  Other than the turnovers.... You know the deal.  Man, was the food good or what?  Great seeing everyone!  We'll see you on the 10th in Winchester!

Man we looked really good in the first half and all i can say is that washington is a beast.  We seemed to lack that spark in the second half when the pressure was on.  It was hard to see that sense of urgency to make something happen.  It is the first game of the season and this game will definitely be a teaching lesson in never getting too comfortable with any lead.  Stay up BC, its time to take it out on shenandoah.

I finnally had the chance to experience some great tailgating.  I want to thank everybody for their generosity.  I had a great time and looking forward to doing it again.

I am a new user so I haven't quite got my act together yet as far as customizing my messages.  However, I would like to comment on the disappointing game between Randolph-Macon and Chowan this afternoon which Chowan unfortunately won 16-13.  The Yellowjackets offense started off in a reasonably efficient manner, but I have noticed that they have great trouble scoring when they are inside the 10 yd line of their opponent.  We squandered at least three opportunities to put points on the board today when we were inside the 10 -- once from the 3 yd. line.  We need to work on that I think in addition to wiser clock management.  The defense played well enough for most of the game to produce a win had the offense been able to score.  However, another trend that I noticed in the two scrimmages and then again in their first game is the almost total lack of rotation of personnel into and out of the offensive and defense lines.  I feel like had the coaches done more of this it would have kept their players fresher and more effective late in the game.  The RMC defense looked beaten late in the game even when they were still ahead and I attribute that in part to fatigue.  I'm not taking anything away from the Chowan effort -- indeed they played inspired football in the second half, but I have the gut feeling that RMC could have easily won this contest had things been managed a little more adroitly.  It's only one loss but I think the team and the coaches both have a lot of work to do in the next few weeks or this will definitely turn out to be a very, very long season if ya'll catch my drift.  I just think if you have some depth to your team you should utilize the talent and not play the starters/first stringers until they're to the point of exhaustion.  That said, I think the potential is there for the Yellowjackets it just needs to be developed.  Good effort overall but they came up short.  Better luck in the future games, 'Jackets.

Ah yes. We ODACers did poorly. Guilford had about 200 turnovers today. They did move the ball on occasion but hey it was the Panthers. I listened to the game before reporting to work for the night shift.  CU sounded good even with a loss. HSC: Ricca's arm is probably in ice huh?

Working the New Orleans disaster. Anybody looking for missing ones can try www.firstgov.gov. Go to the finding loved ones and they have 2 sites one for "looking for" and "I am safe".  DODs got it now and we will fix it. What a flippen mess.

To the Catholic fans in here. Yesterday I went to the game in D.C. and was very impressed with the team and also the campus itself. Beautiful campus you guys have. As for the Cards they are going to win a few games this year Im sure. 3,500 fans at the game. Hopefully the fans will continue to come out this year and support your team. Im looking forward on the Hornets playing the Cards again next year.
