Skoal,
What time are you planning to set up Stone Station South in Farmville next saturday?  I'm just wondering what time to get there to start the fun.  Next week comes the big one.  BC over HSC in Farmville.  When you play lousy teams and your defense is still only ranked 154th in total defense what will happen when the 7th ranked offense in D3 comes to town.  At least the BC defense has been giving up yardage and points to decent offenses.

BC 42
HSC 30

BC seems to have a significant defensive problem this year.  Going over their performances in the 1st three games of each season, 2005 sticks out significantly:

2000 20.0 PPG
2001 15.7 PPG
2002   8.6 PPG
2003   5.6 PPG
2004 17.0 PPG
2005 32.3 PPG

In addition to that stat, the 1st three opponents are averaging only 21.5 PPG against other opponents.  If you eliminate OT scoring that # drops to 19.3 PPG.

This just might be the year that HSC gets over the top with a win at home.  The final score will probably be something like:

HSC 63 BC 62

I would agree our defensive statistics thus far this season have been out of the ordinary ... but consider that we held a 33-14 advantage over McDaniel at the half, jumped out to a 28-6 lead over Shenandoah, and was up 49-21 versus Hanover towards the end of the 3rd.

So our defense (and/or special teams) made stops to give our offense a chance to build leads.

Also, consider that Linfield gave up 31.0 ppg against their first three Division III opponents last year.  Doesn't really matter when they scored 45 themselves.

You make a good point badbadman. I agree that the insurance factor has gone away from this BC team so far this season. Remember 2003 for BC when BC's offense was not clicking and  Jermaine's defense led them to a Nat'l Semifinal appearance. Granted there were not alot of great offenses in D3 that year, but we did score enough to beat HSC. BC will mirror HSC's typical make-up of a high flying offense and suspect defense. The only thing I am hanging my hat on for BC this year at farmville is offensive balance. BC has a potent and balanced run and passing game whereas HSC is heavily weighed toward the pass. If and it is an if, BC slows there passing game, they will be done as the run game can not be counted on to help with play action, etc. That being said, if BC gives up big plays downfield like the second half of the McDainiel game it could bite us in the butt! I really think we will be fine though because our new signal caller has settled in and has learned to take what each play will give him and eventually our skill guys take it to the house. Our offense is scary good right now!

BC's offense is excellent as you point out thats why I had the tounge in cheek 63-62 score.  BC offensive balance is also impressive.  Their pass defense is highly suspect, however, and facing the best QB in the South region.  Given the homefield and JD's last opportunity to win a championship, this should be a fun high scoring game.

True, the BC D has at least contained the HSC offense in the Eagles recent wins. This year, both squads have excellent offenses and the BC D has struggled.
It should be a great game. I hope both squads are healthy going into it.

i won't lie, i miss the days of the team gettin amped at midfield at the conclusion of pregame to "WE READY! WE READY! WE READY!" ...i got chills everytime i saw that. it had an extra intimidation effect on the other team as well, cause they damn sure knew that the eagles were ready.
anticipation for the matchup next week will grow shortly following the outcome of stillers/patriots sunday afternoon

Hello everyone!  I just thought I'd drop a line in.  I've been a reader and fan of this board for awhile.  And, since I didn't want to be one of those 15 additional posters after next week's H-SC victory, I thought I'd chime in now.  Obviously, I'm pulling for an H-SC win.  But, regardless will be a good game to watch from both sides.  H-SC 35  BC 31

I would love to see EHC stun W and J... I remember our whole focus during the offseason my first year was beating W&J after losing to them a couple times in a row in the playoffs.... then we crushed them in the opener. I disliked other ODAC teams (and hated W&L's fans), but the only team besides Maryville I really had a hatred for was W&J, plus they ended our home winning streak in the opener of 1999. Bad memories :(

However, the EHC team on the field vs Ferrum 2 weeks ago could not beat W&J's second string if the reports on the Presidents are accurate. No pass rush + slow DB's = disasterous results. If Monty can turn it around, it will be when he starts getting some quality athletes back into the program.

For those who don't check the ODAC Pick 'Em thread;

2005 ODAC Pick 'Em Contest - Week 4 Summary

Shenandoah - 13Ferrum - 9
Ithaca - 14St. John Fisher - 8
Washington & Lee - 17Centre - 5
Catholic - 21Randolph-Macon - 1
Washington & Jefferson - 22Emory & Henry - 0
Hampden-Sydney - 22Guilford - 0
Bridgewater - 22George Mason - 0

I thought W&L vs. Centre would be more split ... but I guess since this is the ODAC Pick 'Em, in what seems like a close game, pickers will side with the ODAC school.

I'm even more surprised Catholic got all but one picker (Pat Cummings).  Is the Cummster simply picking against the Cards in hoping to make up ground (currently tied for 15th) or is he the only one that realized that the Jackets have won four of the last five meetings? :)

Did kid just say "the Cummster."  That sure as hell doesn't sound good.

Shesh ... and I was even going to use "Cummeister" but thought that would invoke the response that "Cumster" ended up getting.

From now on, Cummings will do.
