Hey anybody know where all those W&L posters went?

Forma80 and THE CHEEKS are pretty pumped up about how Miriello's squad finished the season at the 7-3 mark.  The program is developing in an awesome fashion and has the unique ability to steal some recruits next year that might want to come down south as opposed to playing in the Ivy league...

Sitterson could be the next coming of Chris Sullivan, who was one of the fastest game breaking backs in recent ODAC history (along with Marc Watson)
Can you smell what the CHEEKS is cooking??

Saw a debate on here as well regarding backs...

Devon was pretty nasty and was materially better than Boyle.  Boyle his senior year was not impressive to say the least..

if we really want to turn back the clock, Oliver Jordan from E&H in the late 90s was nasty...

any debate regarding running backs needs to include Marc Watson and Chris Sullivan

Notar had some good stats, but I doubt he would have been able to put those up against real ODAC competition

The second question was about Mike Clark.

He is 61-10 since 2000, built up the program to a perennial playoff factor.  He has five straight league titles and six consecutive playoff appearances.  Is there any chance he will be leaving, or is he at BC for the rest of his career?  Has anyone come after him, and declined to stay at BC?

Questin 2a is from me...if no one has come after him, with his record recently why haven't they come after him?

yes, there has been teams that wanted him but because he declinedfor different reasons. But he are a few things to think about:

A) because of his kids were in school previously(Bridgewater and (Turner Ashby) he wanted to stay around till they finished. now since his oldest child graduated and youngest at CNU. he has the freedom to pack up and ship somewhere else without the pressure of making his children deal with changing schools.

B) he made coach colbert assistant head coach (probably to take over for him)

C) if he had to leave this would be the best time 61-10 since 2000 to go. 5 straight ODAC championships and six straight playoff appereances.

D) losing a big senoir class and recruting is tough at the moment because of the constraints

E) Offers from D-1 AA, D-2 schools (don't know schools exact)

if there are anymore to add... slap them on here

i don't think he would leave but if you were in this predicament what would you do?

Why call it a predicament?    That connotes a bad thing.  He has all sorts of opportunities.  Of course, I'm prejudiced and want him to stay.  He's more than just a great coach.  He's a great person.  But he has to consider all aspects of every possibility.  I'm sure he remembers what happened at Div!A .  Being a scapgoat  or a sacrificial lamb was an awful experience, expecially with a family .  But you're right.  He's freer now than before.  To me, that's a scary thought.  At least it should be for Eagle fans!

great post olinemom... any other thoughts out there

GCOL

Congarts BC on your home game against W&J, and good luck.

what is the amt of undergrads at 'Water??  I'm guessing +/- 2000, which is approx 500 a class, so 250 guys...

follow-up question, how many freshman are at practice in August, 50??

So, 20% of the male population at Water was at one time a football player... pretty staggering

ODAC rumor mill:

I heard that former W&L all-conference cornerback Chris Shortall (1998-2001) just got featured in People magazine as being seen in cahoots with Paris Hilton

BC current student body is in the neighborhood of 1350, while the school page at d3football.com give it as 1376.  I think Phil Stone intends to cap enrollment at 1500 unless there is more residential and academic construction.

We have around 1500 students.  I'm not sure how many freshmen we had out there this fall, maybe 40.  Llamaguy will know for sure.   He 's the one with all the stats. It's always difficult to recruit for a small non-state school because of the $$$$$$$$$.

The entire reason I bring that up is that Coach Clark is so important to not just the football program, but Bridgewater College as an institution.  So, with 1500 students, the math is roughly:

1500 - 375 students per class, 190 males, 40 on the football team, ~22% of incoming males are revolving around football.

Should the program go on a more secular decline, a la Emory and Henry, the school loses what is a major draw to bring in more students and $$ to support development, etc....

just don't want to get away from the big picture here...

You said "Should the program go on a more secular decline..."

"Secular Decline"?  Does that mean greater religious input? ;-)

D3Waterboy

Looks like W&J has to be the favored team, although BC got the home field. Both teams beat 2 common opponents, but W&J had a much larger margin of victory (36 over Hanover versus BC's 14 and 50 over E&H versus BC's 14). Also, W&J's season scoring versus points against is +29 versus BC's +15.  But that was the first season. It's the start of the second season, so both teams are 0-0. It should really be a battle !

Oh, I fully understand what you are saying.  I just wanted to underscore the kind of man Coach Clark is.  I agree that the flowering of the football program has had an extremely long-raning effect on the student body in many different ways.    Having been here through the 0-10 seasons I know the difference.  The elctricity --the atmosphere--is so much different now than it was then.  I, for one, really emjoy this atmosphere.  It gives me another way to bond with my students.

What recruiting restraints exist now that have not existed in the past?

price to come to the school for instance, the RMC we #3 Kahlil Shareef wanted to come to Bc bad (he told me during his recruiting trip) but for financial reasons he had to pick RMC

also, admissions put a limit on football players that would be accepted (so clark couldn't recruit for numbers like he used to)

the theme that ever other team use...if you go to bridgewater you won't play until your a junoir or senoir but if you come here you have a chance to play immediately (Then when the lose to Bc they think to themselves, if i would've went to Bc i'll have a ring by the end of the season)

there's probably a few more that i cannot think of right now
