GO TOMCATS!!!

Rugby Guy

OK Kid, gotta call you out on that one.

QuarterBACK is an offensive position, and it's a back.  SO, offensive back of the year is right for Ricca.

franknizy

kid, what part of back do you not understand. quarter "back", running "back",  both players are in the offensive "back"field.  Therefore, the offensive back of the year award could go to either position.  JD probably won it because of his record shattering passing season, not his rushing.  You must have had a very emotional week after having to deconstruct your basement shrine dedicated to M Washington....youll always have the memories!

norton

C'mon Kid...maybe the 3,731 passing yards or the 42 td passes or the 8 ODAC records or the ODAC offensive poy award had something to do with it. Also, the 2 finalist's for the D2/D3 Dudley Award are JD and Jack Martin from W&L.

Grr ... touche!

And no, I'm fine with Ricca winning ODAC POTY and VA DII/III "Back" of the Year.  Good kid, great career.  I've just never heard of an award being called "back of the year" I guess ... much less a QB called a back.  But it certainly makes sense.

Odd...if not a "back", in what category would you put the quarterBACK?

Perhaps a new category...JD Ricca wins the DII/DIII 'Thrower of the Year' award.

That's cool.  Washington is heading to the Aztec Bowl.  Quite an accomplishment considering all the great "backs" this year.

Gotcha Kid.  So who was the Tackle of the year?  Guard?  Center? I mean...they can't all be "linemen", right?

Funny.  Not.

This is how I break things down (which I now know as incorrect):

Quarterback: QB

Back: TB, HB, FB, RB, etc...

Receiver: TE, WR, SE, etc...

Lineman: T, C, G

Hey I didn't rent you a basement apartment. Setting up a shrine down there would be against your leasing agreement!  ;D

Rugby Guy, I saw this one too, but didn't pile on (until now).  lol  It's been fun watching you guys do it, though.  :)  "Carry me back to old Virginia ..."  In the (really) old days (before the forward pass), the FULLback was the farthest back behind the Center, the HALFback was about midway and the QUARTERback was, uh, about a quarter of the way between the Center and the Fullback.  All backs were purely runners until a few teams figured out how to throw a spiral, but the last time I checked, the QB is still allowed to run and the HB and FB are still allowed to pass.

Hang in there kid, Marcus is still eligible for sainthood.  St. Marcus of Bridgewater - it does have a nice ring to it.  :)

I'm glad I learned something with you all calling out my stupidity.  Back in middle and high school when I was made fun of, I just felt bad about myself and let the bullies get the better of me.

And I know I'm just setting myself up for more "haha, you're so stupid Matt," but until now, I never picked up on the whole "full, half, quarter" thing as far as their positioning on the field from the center to the fullback.

Trust me, Matt, I am joking with you and not at you.  I bet a lot of other folks never thought about the origins of the names either.  As evidenced by many previous posts, you will have ample opportunities to "kid" me and other posters.  Give us time, we'll fumble a big one ... :)

Soooooooo.... If a team is in the I-formation and the Halfback is behind the Fullback, why don't they call a pass from the backfield a Fullback pass since he is lined up in the Fullback position? Things that make you go hummmm...?

And Kid, atleast you knew why they called the guy in the middle of the offensive line: Center! :D
