From an outsiders point of view, that has only been introduced to D3 football for 6 years now, it certainly SEEMS like it is the BCAC! It's very hard to believe that before this period of time, BC was so unsuccessful in football.

US NEWS AND WORLD REPORTS COLLEGE RANKINGS:
Top National Liberal Arts Collegees: Washington & Lee #14.  Bridgewater College 4th Tier.  Now that will put some things into perspective.  (not bad for a school with the alledged drug problem huh downthehall?)

But let's apply more criteria shall we?  How about median SAT scores for 2004-2005?  Bridgewater representing the BCAC:
    SAT I scores (25/75 percentile):
    Verbal: 460 – 570
    Math: 460 – 570
    Combined: 920 – 1140

and the Generals playing in the ODAC and charged with drinking kool-aide:
    SAT I scores (25/75 percentile):
    Verbal: 650 – 730
    Math: 660 – 720
    Combined: 1310 – 1450

Now kidsdownthehall, I pose two questions to you as you get smarmy with my last post, have there been any Generals on the board making obscene statements like, "there is a drug problem at W&L"  like Wrightdownthehall did, or the ODAC should be renamed the W&LAC?  I haven't seen any, and it might relate to the scores I just posted for you.  And finally, we Generals sip cocktails at the club, not koolaide!!

Llamaguy

You know I was kidding about the Kool Aide. Right? I know, we drink the Melon Ball and Snow Creek Berry once a week too. But Martinees, I don't think so. ;)

W&L guy, you must need.......... somethin

If you guys are so smart then you should win football every year. I think it was the great John Madden who said football is 40% physical and 90% mental.

By the way BC Players had to stop posting the BCAC back then because Coach got wind of the trash talking and didnt want bulletin board material for the other teams.

Hug

Dang, BC supporters aren't even the most arrogant posters in their own conference!

Matt Barnhart (kid)

lol ... I love it.  This has gone from a ODAC football discussion, to an ODAC overall championships won discussion, to a W&L is a better academic school than is Bridgewater.

I guess the Generals not having won an ODAC title in 20 years will make fans, students and former players use the "but...but...we're smarter than you!" argument.  C'mon, that's pathetic.  That just makes you look - oddly enough - stupid.  It's already pretty well known that W&L is one of the top schools in the nation.  And Bridgewater being categorized as a fourth tier means absolutely nothing (when it comes to a student coming here and getting an education).  Example: in my circle of closest friends from Bridgewater (15 or so), four are currently in med school.  My best friend from high school who went to Duke, is also in med school.  So I guess my BC friends weren't held back by attending a "fourth tier school," seeing they ended up at the same place a Dukie did.

I'm a firm believer that a person dictates what they learn and how they grow, not a school.

I've enjoyed all the posts this morning, and have been laughing for the past hour.

BTW, Randolph-Macon has no Alonzo Stagg Bowl appearances, but did win the Knute Rockne Bowl in 1969.  In those days, I think what was to eventually become DIII football and the AS Bowl, was then divided into East and West championships.  The 1969 Yellow Jackets played the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT, and won the East Championship.  Ted Keller's team went 9-1 that year

Now I KNOW this was 1969.  I was only 4, and didn't quite get it.  Although that year was my first Randolph-Macon/Hampden-Sydney football game!

I hope all you guys have a great day and weekend.  I'm gonna be sitting here sipping my Kool-Aid cocktail, and enjoying the mud-slinging!! ;D

LOL indeed!!
"This has gone from a ODAC football discussion, to an ODAC overall championships won discussion, to a W&L is a better academic school than is Bridgewater."

The progression was: football to BCAC (which was interpreted by me to include "athletic conference") so I offered examples of championships in "overall athletic competition" which evoked derision from the BC contingent to koolaide and "a different perspective" posts, so I offered one.  Obviously I hit a nerve.

It seems to me the BC folks are the ones changing the direction of the thread.  IF you are truly serious, you might ask your administration why more sports aren't offered for the student athlete if that is the reason you trail the Generals in overall championships.  IF you are serious you might address the components of the US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT rankings and criteria used to compare colleges.  I don't make any comment on their report, I just point it out for you to see.  So I pose the question that needs to be asked; is Bridgewater's recent success, especially measured against W&L in football, a component of admission standards?  That is to say, is the pool of players larger for Bridgewater than for W&L and maybe other ODAC schools?

Maybe I read other posts incorrectly but it seems here that there is a great deal of patting oneself on the back about a "truer form of football" (no pun intended but it did work out nicely don't you think?) and when examples of student athlete are offered they are derided and the subject is changed back to football.  Anyway you want to measure it, the combined SAT scores and accumulation of ODAC championships would tend to show the Generals are headed toward that ideal as espoused on this website.

Kid you are a great poster, and a wonderful asset to your school, you talk up your school without trashing other schools.  I am not on here to bash Bridgewater, (I think we did that enough when I was at W&L during the all men days) but I won't let some of the comments go unchallenged, especially ugly and unfounded charges that were edited out later by the poster.

So if that makes me look - oddly enough - stupid, so be it!!

One more thing, we haven't been to a Stagg Bowl, but we did go to a Gator Bowl.  That ought to be worth something!!

Yep, I remember reading that somewhere.  Wasn't that in the '50s?  Also the height of what was then a very strong rivalry between W&L and UVA.

Doesn't Bridgewater.edu host the ODAC website.. I guess we can call it whatever we want..  :D

WLU78

-There is a drug problem on the W&L campus just like every other campus in the US.  To deny that would be stupid.

-You didn't hit ANY nerves.. you actually made me laugh with your penis envy or whatever it is that is forcing you to post SAT scores, etc.  The ODAC isn't an Ivy League if W&L is so much better than the rest of the schools maybe they should look elsewhere for athletic competition.

-The BCAC is obviously something you were not around for, don't understand, and don't like.... fill in the blank_________.   It's ok NOT to know everything. In the future it may benefit you to ask what something is before you comment on it.  Certainly in this case you wasted a ton of effort and time on a topic that A) is old news.  B) Was originated back in 2001 BEFORE you ever stuck your head in this board.  C) Was started by a BC Defensive player who was KNOWN for talking trash.

-Thank You CJ Smart!- :D ;D  5 years and counting and a simple four letter "word" still upsets the rest of the ODAC.. CJ is truly the master of trash talk!  :D ;D

Yeah I still don't get it.. I'm just sitting here drooling on my keyboard.. if I had only gone to W&L I'd be SO much better off!   :'( :'( :'( ???

I would HATE to mention how many BC Football players went to Med. School between 1999-2005.. that may ruin our reputation for being so dumb!  :o
