SkoalTrain getting all the gear out of storage.  Time to get into a Tailgate frame of mind.  I'll have a big trial run come Aug. 5th as my daughter is turning 11 and my son (SkoalBandit) is turning 1.  Pork BBQ for all the family.

Llamaguy/Snakehandler? Can you hear the engine warming?

Welcome back Skoal. I take it GQ lets you out of your underwear commercial contract for football season? :)

Hey;  does WR Martin (Bow Ties) have anybody that will get him the ball? A guess a runing game will help his chances

I heard Skoal has moved up to Playgirl. He is even on their College Football Forecast Committee, but he keeps picking the teams who have the best Tailgate parties! :D

As for the bowties, I assume they will have a good sprint draw game this year. The new QB went to high school with Ward and those two can flat fly. But if he can't pass then the run will be bottled up just as it has the last two years. ;)

What makes Martin so good is his size and hands. In the past they just throw it high and let him go get it. It will be fun to see what the O-line of W&L will be able to do to help the skill guys cause this year.

I'll admit ... it's darn near impossible to rank the following offensive quadruples:

BC: Highfill, Young, Warring, Copeland
GC: Vogelbach, Barnette, Rushing, Joyner
W&L: Dawkins, Martin, Sitterson, Ward

And if WR Drew Smith of H-SC and QB Keith Ricca of CUA get anyone around them, there could be five schools in the ODAC that put up some nasty offensive numbers in '06.

I don't know scores from other match-ups last season, but consider these 2005 combined point totals:

GC at BC = 108 points
HSC at GC = 92 points
GC at CUA = 91 points
W&L at GC = 54 points

Granted (and I'll say this before anyone else does! lol), it was partly due to GC's Defense, but that's a lot of combined points!

Doesn't look like much defense was being played by anyone.  GC may need defensive improvements more than most, but the entire conference needs to step its defensive output.

I saw where the Pittsburgh Steelers are having their training camp at St. Vincent College, home of BC's former DC Coach Colbert.

It dawned on me that so many pro teams hold training camp at D3 schools, but I can't remember but a few.  Here's a short list of ones I can think of:

Packers - St. Norbert College

Dedskins - used to be Dickinson College, then I think Frostburg St. for a short while, but maybe the Ravens were in Frostburg, I am old and can't remember which.  Anyway, the Foreskins now have camp in Dannyland.

Where do the Ravens hold camp now?  Kid, its not McDaniel is it?

Can you guys think of others, I thought there were more than ten teams at D3 schools, but I can't think of any others.

11 of the 12 players mentioned are all-league caliber players...the other is a senior qb who competed 4 passes last year as a backup...that has to make W&L third...the other two are darn close...GC has the best passing game, BC the best rushing game...I'll go 1)BC  2) GC  3) W&L

Thanks, 'Nova.  The Colts at Rose-Hulman was the other I knew but couldn't remember.  Nice article.  I didn't know from the title that it was about this topic.

Trenches

that should be the new poll...
"which ODAC team has the most potent offense?"

someone want to set it up?
Or set it up so that you post your votes and it scores as 1. (5 pts) 2. (4 pts)... and so on. Then avg out all the votes and make a final standing.

as far as those three teams using only those players... I rank BC third and the w&L and GC are oh so very close. Agreed that GC didnt have much of a running game but when you're 3+ quality WRs deep... it makes it near impossible to cover. Which is why it worked out so well for them. I'll go...
1. GC
2. W&L
3. BC

Wow, both better than BC's?

I find it slightly frustrating how BC's "position by committee" stifles the statistical outputs of our best players.  Our wide receivers in particular.  So with the numbers a Vogelbach or Martin put up certainly makes it seem like their "better" than a Highfill or Warring.  But I'm assuming because Highfill, Young, Warring and Copeland haven't played full seasons as a starter yet, that sort of takes them out of the equation.  Hopefully 2006 proves they're the best at their positions in the ODAC.  If it doesn't, I guess I'll have to settle for another championship. :)

PatCu,

Why no love for the BC offense?  I am really excited about the prospects of Young and Highfill back more experienced than last year.

Now if you were to question our D, I might agree with you.  I have no idea how much we will miss Coach Colbert, but no one else in the ODAC has a defense, either.  I like our chances for a ring on the other hand.

My question is...if Coach Clark stays past 2010, will the team have to buy toe rings for the ten years after that?  Seems a little wussy to me.  "One for the toe after 2-0-1-0."  Sounds worse than "two hands."  Don't you other ODAC schools wish you had this problem?

JK, gotta rub it in since PatCu obviously thinks BC's reign is over.  All in good fun since its summer and this board is slow.
