Wow, man -- apparently having the third-ranked offense in a conference filled with prolific offenses is now equated to the dynasty being over?

Are you trying to tell the Bridgewater defense and special teams that they should not show up?

My rankings will obviously look bias (which I can't get around), but I can say that more than most fans, I know how capable Highfill/Young/Warring/Copeland are, so I have to put them number one.  Now, once the 2006 season is over, will Highfill throw for 3500+ yards?  Probably not.  Will Young rush for 1500+ yards?  Good chance he won't.  Will either Warring or Copeland have 1000+ yards?  Naw, we'll spread it around and have four or five guys with 250+ yards.  But thus is the statistical life of a "position by committee" team.

1) BC -- Highfills legs are the key ... his ability to beat you on the ground puts him (value wise, for me) over Dawkins and Vogelbach ... with Young in the backfield, that makes Warring and Copeland that much more dangerous

2) W&L -- I hear Dawkins is the real deal ... last year, Martin was the best WR I saw ... Ward and Sitterson can do amazing things once they get the ball in their hands (and can play multiple positions)

3) GC -- Yes, GC has great receivers, but honestly none of them "wowed" me like Martin (W&L) and Smith (H-SC) did ... and yes, Vogelbach had amazing passing numbers, but he can't/won't run (1.4 yds per rush) ... I had the same argument/complaint about JD Ricca last year (when debating which QB you'd rather have)

I saw where the Pittsburgh Steelers are having their training camp at St. Vincent College, home of BC's former DC Coach Colbert.

It dawned on me that so many pro teams hold training camp at D3 schools, but I can't remember but a few.  Here's a short list of ones I can think of:

Packers - St. Norbert College

Dedskins - used to be Dickinson College, then I think Frostburg St. for a short while, but maybe the Ravens were in Frostburg, I am old and can't remember which.  Anyway, the Foreskins now have camp in Dannyland.

Where do the Ravens hold camp now?  Kid, its not McDaniel is it?

Can you guys think of others, I thought there were more than ten teams at D3 schools, but I can't think of any others.

pak - Take a look at the July 15 Daily Dose post called "When the Saints go marching in."  It addresses this very topic.

Thanks, 'Nova.  The Colts at Rose-Hulman was the other I knew but couldn't remember.  Nice article.  I didn't know from the title that it was about this topic.

You're welcome.  Yeah, the d3football boys are a literate bunch.   In addition to "When the Saints go marching in," they also gave Prince some Daily Dose press with their play on words in the "Purple Reign (Rain)" story.  lol  I love it!

I will settle for 3rd ranked quadruple because I know which team has way more than those four stars. ;)

Fortunately it takes 22 minimum to play and with injuries, exhaustion, you need to be more like 44 deep. Which of those 3 teams only had 3 Freshman on their 99 man roster last year? And yes there is a reason most don't play in year one. Ask Mt. Union about it, its called quality depth. Thus at BC there were 64 able bodied rising Jr's and Sr's who will have plenty of experience to cover the incoming 40 or so Freshman and returning Soph's. Plus this years recruiting class could be Top 2 or 3 in BC history so the future looks quite bright at Ole Bridgewater.

Pak,
You heard it hear first. There will be a few freshman who actually make an impact at BC this year, and ....... BC will hands down have the best Defense in the ODAC this year. Think of the 2003, 2004 BC defenses, we won't be quite that good, but this team has a chance to come close. Only time will tell and I can't wait until Sept. 2nd. :o

On paper, I'd say the best.  Of course four years from now, it might be different, but every position was attended to, and two of the more important positions (depth wise) of DB and OL are really solid.  It'll be fun to watch these kids grow over the next four years.

Way to go jacketlawyer!  In the end, however, everyone's loyal.  I don't think this poll really means much except to highlight how one school has a lot more fans who post on this board.  That being said, I think BC has to be the preseason favorite to win the ODAC (as llamaguy said, it's hard to be the champion without all team dimensions performing well).  I don't think BC's Offense, though, is clearly superior to that of three or four other ODAC teams.   I do, however, think their overall team strength and depth gives them the preseason edge for the title.  As the season progresses, then injuries, the funny bounces of a football and playing experience for newcomers start to become factors.  Let the games begin!  Peace

I'll admit ... it's darn near impossible to rank the following offensive quadruples:

BC: Highfill, Young, Warring, Copeland
GC: Vogelbach, Barnette, Rushing, Joyner
W&L: Dawkins, Martin, Sitterson, Ward

And if WR Drew Smith of H-SC and QB Keith Ricca of CUA get anyone around them, there could be five schools in the ODAC that put up some nasty offensive numbers in '06.

I don't think it's impossible at all...here is how I would rank them...

W&L
GC

PatCu,

Why no love for the BC offense?  I am really excited about the prospects of Young and Highfill back more experienced than last year.

Now if you were to question our D, I might agree with you.  I have no idea how much we will miss Coach Colbert, but no one else in the ODAC has a defense, either.  I like our chances for a ring on the other hand.

My question is...if Coach Clark stays past 2010, will the team have to buy toe rings for the ten years after that?  Seems a little wussy to me.  "One for the toe after 2-0-1-0."  Sounds worse than "two hands."  Don't you other ODAC schools wish you had this problem?

JK, gotta rub it in since PatCu obviously thinks BC's reign is over.  All in good fun since its summer and this board is slow.
:P

How could you infer from what I wrote, that I think BC's reign is over?  In fact, how could you infer anything but what was being ranked.  I only ranked the top couple offensive players by team.  This is the ODAC and top to bottom isn't exactly a wide margin...

Wait until the preview comes out and you'll get all my thoughts.

With baumy weather on us I ask to hear your opinions,  concerning to which commands will win struggle around of heading of a pork leather?
What has a command the best insult? How the group most is in an exhibition of a line of a gate? Whether there Are students of the first year who go to do a star? Who is the player of year?

Thank You

Pat,

Keep,em straight!!! It's a little to early  to start all this bragging, bantering, and posturing.

Let's let the season playout and enjoy what D3 football is about a few surprise's and upsets. Who will some of the surprise's  be in the ODAC?

Trenches

Scoreboard is up. And the rest is coming along nicely. The interior of the new press box is still being worked on but here are the pics I was able to get earlier today. The field is nice a green too (as good as its ever looked).

view from the 50 yard line top row. now if they could take care of y'all and get some new visitors bleachers.  ;)

hasanova

Thanks, Trenches.  I had been following everything else, but drove through today and saw the new scoreboard for the first time - very nice!  I agree with you, some more money needs to be raised to bring the visitor bleachers and sideline team benches up to par.  Otherwise, it all looks great!  Go Quakers!

PatCu,

You are correct that I read too much into your post, but I'd be willing to bet that you will not predict that BC wins the ODAC this year.  That is what I read (past tense) into your comments.

Didn't mean to get your Goat.  We all appreciate the work you put into covering the Mid-Atlantic region, and we value your honest opinion.  If I read too much into your post, forgive me.

But I'll still take that bet...

Love,
Pak
